That Bowie cover looks like they had a competition on Deviant Art where users got to vote on which fan art would be the cover
I absolutely guarantee you a user-voted DeviantArt contest would not have had a single entry that shitty making it into the top ten. It would have been a huge improvement. Unfortunately instead of some random high schooler he gave the job to some artist/designer buddies of his who collectively had the talent and artistic vision of a blocked nasal passage.
The Dance of Death cover is literally just a first draft that the artist sent to the band to show them how the general composition of the image would look. The band took one look at it and just said "thanks, we'll just use that", instead of waiting for the artist to actually complete it. IIRC the artist more or less disowned it because it's literally just a shitty, unfinished first draft.
Lol wtf
Damn, did you watch the same video I did where that exact story is on the screen the entire time Melon was talking about the album cover?

The JNCO Jeans statement was one of the most accurate takes I have ever heard in my whole fucking life.

The Bowie cover kinda reminds me of that one image where the kid found an old drawing they did of anime George Washington
Yeah, all of these were trash. Definitely agree. A few of them could've been good if they removed some elements or really focused on a particular part of the cover though!
let’s agree: if anthony had a mow hawk we couldn’t call him melon, we’d call him pineapple
No. Dev Meami is the pineapple
Big Money Salvia WAS the pineapple, but pineapple summer is long gone.

Funny thing about that Iron Maiden cover is that it wasn’t even finished. The artists showed the band a rough draft and they loved it just how it was.
That's crazy, did you watch the same video I did where that exact story is literally on the screen at 4:09???
@@powerfulghost ha you’re right. It’s right there XD
"A sexy cover isn’t why an album sells. You tell me - The White Album? What was that? There was nothing on that goddamn cover.” -- Bobbi Flekman
An interesting story about the Iron Maiden cover is that the original artist actually created that cover as a mockup, the band requested that they just use the unfinished version, so the artist asked to have his name removed from any credits as to not tarnish his reputation, because the band refused to let him finish the cover.
Also it's worth mentioning that in person the Talking Heads 77 original pressings are really more like a neon pink/lime color which looks much nicer than whatever dull picture used here.

It's long been established that red and green is the most jarring color combination on the eyes. It's precisely why Wes Craven chose those colors for Freddy Krueger. And probably why Talking Heads chose them for the 77 album cover.
I completely misread that and thought you were saying freddy kreuger chose the colours for the album, jesus christ
The Bends album cover is great. Radiohead album art never disappoints.
This is Corey Feldman’s world we’re just living in it
I will never understand the hate for The Bends.
Because its a more derivative OK computer. If kid a came before OK then I would still not like it as much as that, but I would a least appreciate what it provided alternatively. Its a good album, but I feel its notoriety comes from the time it came out and not the music itself.
@@enjoshi-godrez8775 It's not a "more derivative" OK wtf. It's a stepping stone towards OK Computer, context matters. But yeah, not a innovative record for most of it. I do think "Bullet Proof" is super creative tho.
@@movimentodoscacos ok I admit its incredibly unfair to say its derivative because, yes, it come before OK computer. But a lot of bands first records are not as creative as their later output, but still offer something they don't. The bends sounds like the transition point, but not the transition itself.
Ah yes the abhorred The Bends, one of the worst albums of all time according to music fans and critics... lol

The Dr. Dooom "First Come First Served" cover is a parody of super gaudy rap album covers, so it is a success. Also, the album is BRILLIANT.
Yeah kinda sad that Anthony doesn't know about cool keith.
2:54 he looks like an oblivion NPC
kinda looks like the adoring fan
I actually really like the Talking Heads 77' album cover personally. The unappealing, surreal colour contrast on top of an otherwise fairly minimalistic, pleasant looking cover complement's the album's sound, perfectly. It elevates the uneasiness and bizarreness. A familiar sound, yet something 'off' throughout the record - thanks to Byrne's nervous and insane vocal deliveries. Incredible album nonetheless.
The bends is a 9/10 album and the cover art is 10/10, Melon is definitely smoking something
Fr the bends is so good bruh how he dissed it like that
I feel like the Dance Of Death cover would look great if it was in 2D and hand-drawn
I remember Wes Craven choosing the red-green contrast for Freddy's sweater specifically because it makes people feel uncomfortable. While that works great for a horror film, why would you use it to sell an album?
Anthony finally has his own "I'm not a furry...but" moment
yeah, I don’t love the cover for The Bends, but I really can’t imagine another cover for it, its the best one to represent the music, and I love the music.

The Maiden "Dance of Death" cover was apparently an unfinished mockup or proof-of-concept of the planned artwork. The band saw it and loved it so much that they insisted that the it be used as the actual, final album cover.
Oh god that makes it even worse lol

the most upsetting thing about Dance Of Death is that most Iron Maiden album covers are so good and then there's that shit...

LETS AGREE: Melon should make a collaboration album with Cal so we can say that Melon ruined it and give it a 5/10.
Dance of Death is especially insulting when you consider how most other Iron Maiden album covers are actually cool pieces of art. Not even just the earlier classic albums, but stuff like Seventh Son or Brave New World look good.
Similarly, late 90's/early 2000's album covers--particularly "Negatron" or "Kronik" etc--from the metal band Voivod. It was almost like, if you didn't know any better, you could've very easily picked up those CDs on the false pretense that they were some hot new Eurodance group.
At least their old-school surrealist techno-apocalyptic comic book artwork was more forthcoming in letting listeners know that the record's grooves likely contained heavy metal music.
@@hamupinhere I absolutely love the artstyle of speed metal era voivod covers, the crazy crackhead cyberpunk was awesome.
In the iron maiden thing, it's also insulting because they didn't let the guy finish the render, and they aren't known for doing drugs so they don't even have a good excuse for it.
@@hamupinhere Kronik is one of the ugliest covers ever, I agree
I'd like to see a video with bands or artists that consistently had great album covers across their discography. Not just 1 or 2 good album covers, but atleast 4 to 5.

That was bad Radiohead take Anthony 😟😔...
Lol opening the segment on the Creed cover with that initial reaction gets me every time - 'Jesus Christ what is this...'
Also I've seen an earlier(?) version of the Dance of Death cover without all the CG shit, it's just the Grim Reaper standing in a smoke filled room. It's not amazing I guess (a bit bare for an album cover) but it is so much better than what ended up being used, lol.
My nomination for this is the cover for Tri Repetae by Autechre. It's basically just a solid color. I can't decide if it belongs in the list of the best album covers or the worst album covers.
Humanz by Gorillaz is just unsettling. Like it’s just DD but with Uncanny Valley draws of the four.
It’s an alright album cover but I agree
Agree. I love Jamie Hewlett's art and I couldn't understand why instead of just using a drawing by Jamie, they went for some generic CGI ripoff of the iconic Demon Days cover. The album itself it's not that great, but the cover artwork totally feels like a wasted opportunity.
Virgil Abloh’s Pop Smoke cover (Has he made other bad covers trying to be artsy?)
He made the cover for pray for Paris by westside Gunn, also a badly made album cover
I expected Cerrone's Supernature to be somewhere in this. Maybe in the next one !
