  • I had an action packed morning bait fishing from the bank for Murray Cod using hot dogs/cocktail sausages and bardi grubs as bait. During this session I caught my first legal sized Murray Cod for the 2022-2023 season. The action was non-stop and I managed to land a couple of Murray Cod. The Gunbower Creek at Cohuna has been a great start to the 2022-23 Cod season.

      @brentonclarke is the creek generally that weedy? I've only ever fished it at the Junction with the Murray and that was 35 years ago.

      Yes it is pretty weedy now. If you are lucky the weed is only on the opposite side of the bank. I don’t think the creek water level drops as much as it used to over winter so the weeds stay around

    Nice to see some Cod being caught in our region. Had a look around over the weekend and hopefully we can get back on the river in a week or two. Even the smaller Cod you caught where good sized and congrats on the 59cm. Great job

      Yeah I was very surprised to land so many healthily looking fish. There must be a hell of a lot of water in the Edward river for it to be closed still. The Murray river has opened up back down this way but boating restrictions in place so will wait for it to calm down some more

      Yeah any near by campers probably thought I was playing jingle bells on repeat because as soon as the bait hit the water the bites were on

    👍well done,. There certainly on the bite. Mate was up there the other day, he said he had to bait the hook behind a tree there were so many😄.
    Did you even get the cheese on the hook.

      Thanks. It was probably the most full on morning session I have had bait fishing. Didn’t event get the seat out of the car as had no time to sit down. No didn’t get a chance to try the cheese as I have found when the bites are red hot they get the cheese of way to quick

    Maybe to be a little more scientific in the interests of accuracy, run both baits off the same line? That way Murray can swim up to both and choose what he wants for brekkie, because as you know, some people like an Egg McMuffin while others rather Hash Browns.

      @brentonclarke  Před rokem

      I had a bit of a look at Spence’s bridge on the weekend parts of the track look pretty dry but a lot is torn up by 4wd’s so did not go far. There seems to be a fair bit of water around the abandoned quarry (google maps). Iron punt track to Hudson track seemed really good and saw a couple of 4wd’s drive in so not sure how far they went. I Didn’t see any camps on the creek but did not go that far

    Look very good mate. is it creek easy to access? I heard Barmah National park still closed

    • @brentonclarke
      @brentonclarke  Před rokem +2

      Yes some parts of the creek are easily accessible close to town. Not sure how you would go for some of the more remote parts (if camping) as some of the tracks were torn up by 4wd’s pretty bad. I did see the river track at cohuna was still closed but it did say they were grading the track so not sure how much they can get graded and when it will open

      I think so as there were no signs up saying you could not camp. Might be busy over the holidays with a lot of the river camps closed though

    the reel sounds bloody horrible

    • @brentonclarke
      @brentonclarke  Před rokem

      Thanks for the comment. The reels probably have never been serviced so would be well overdue for some TLC. It’s not something I have put much thought into but I will have a look at doing something. Do you have any tips?
