That is the RAVE E system. All the rs125s that came with a power valve use this system (some just had a blanking plate rather than a power valve). The early AF1 used the RAVE 2, which worked off exhaust gas pressure (also with a cable to the back brake to operate it regularly and hopefully stop it seizing up) and had an adjuster, but Aprilia moved to the RAVE E for the 1989 models. Before that (on the AS125R for example) they used RAVE 1, which was virtually the same but with no adjuster and no connection to the back brake. There are also a few aftermarket systems as well (eg, Italkit make one).
How to maintain it, check the cable. If its damaged... dont replace it. Check the valve.. if its damages dont replace it. Clean it with sand paper but dont measure it to see if its still within tolerances or anything and then throw it all back in and pray it still works. 👍
@stiggy mate mine looks just like yours lol, broke a chip off of it just like on yours 😂. A trick I’ve found is warm the engine up before I take the power valve out. When it’s cold mine would always be stuck and I’d struggle to get it out now I always start the bike or ride it before I take it out now to clean it.
thanks stiggy, been having some operation issues with my rs's pv. very informative, helped me to clearly see how it should be operating.. only thing you didnt bring up, is how to properly tension the cable at the solenoid end?
@@stiggy1294 Thank you a lot 😄 I thought that mine's working bad because it opens instantly on neutral gear, maybe it works different when I ride it 👍👍
@@mindaugaskaraciejus it is closed with the engine off. With the engine running it should be open below 2500rpm (so it opens regularly around town, to hopefully stop it seizing), closed from there up to around 8000rpm (standard control unit opens it at 7800rpm, but there are a couple of other control units, and a mid that can be done to adjust it a small amount), and open after that. Independent of throttle position
@@katywalker8322you are wrong about control unit operation. That is simply changed by cutting a cable that goes to the rave box, to make it actuate at 7,800 rpm.

Looks like the valve is going in when you rev it. Shouldn't the cable pull it out or is that just an illusion?
Bro I thought that too like wtf I thought at 2500 n 8 it pulled it open ...it doesn't look right
nice video..very powerfull folrom 125cc..

happy to see this video has helped you out, been years now since ive worked on this bike and i honestly cant remember sorry.
nice job
Hey, thanks for the informative video, this will probably save me a lot of money. Should the solenoid work instantly when i give it some gas?
If I remember correctly it should, been a long time haha

@@Willy_Wanka , 7800 is default on an rs125 and I mentioned a mod. There are also other control units with a different default settings.
dont need to actually disconnect the solonoid... can disconnect the cable from the blade and it will be fine
Should the solenoid move when u turn the ignition on??
Hi that's normal mate got no worries
