@John Whirling how many of history's greatest singers were smokers, john? obviously, i don't condone the habit as it will 100% kill you, but: janis joplin, amy winehouse, joni mitchell, mick jagger, bowie, freddie mercury, virtually every great jazz/blues singers of the 20th century. smoking changes your sound, but in many of the above examples, this change was appropriate for the genre #tomwaits

Yes, it's hard on one's voice to inject "gravel." Never try before warming up and don't over do it. Learn to use vocal exercises to strengthen your voice (they help a lot) and to identify your range. With a little time and practice you can develop your own little "growl." Use it judiciously and you can add a lot of pizazz to your vocals. Or you could try smoking cigars for about thirty years. I'm thinking Marianne Faithful here.
As an old straight guy...this song is definitely one of my favorites, and I never get tired of singing it or hearing it.
Plus, I'm a big fan of Pink.

I respect your opinion about Pink, as a matter of fact I wasn't a big fan until I saw her singing at an awards show while doing a trapeze act above the audience. Incredible to say the least. Throw in her pop singles and covers of some great 70s music. I'm sold. Turns out we share the same B-Day too.

I read somewhere that Pink would sometimes get in trouble with neighbours for singing this song so loud and so often, so I’m not that surprised that she kept with the true rock belting nature of the chorus and didn’t water it down in any way

I remember when P!nk came to Dallas right after Missundaztood was released, and she sang this song, and CRUSHED it. It was out of this world. I was already obsessed with her when she released her first album, but when she knocked it out of the park with this song, she solidified her stardom for me. I don't get star struck, but she brought me to tears that day.
