    For those of you wondering, what happened to the MK4 R32 Turbo... Its at the bodyshop :( it will be a little while longer until its finished. BUT!!!! I got some non MK8 goodness coming soon. I wanted to get some basic mods done early on the MK8.. Then we have the MK3 Cabrio, MK1 TT, Tacoma and more fun things to work on .

      Same as my r32, just getting hit for new discs, pads, rear springs and dampers to get it through its annual road worthy test. Holy carp are discs (rotors) are sooo expensive. Also got my mk3 vr6 off road as it’s running rich. So many cars so little time. What happened to the white mk3 you had? I could do with plenty of DIYs.

    You should do the other common manual mods as well -- clutch delay valve removal, clutch stop, and clutch assist spring removal. These simple changes along with the shifter bracket definitely improve the stock driving experience. I assume all of these are still relevant on the Mk8 since the transmission appears to be completely carry-over.

    Audi A3 8P install is almost exactly the same. The holy shift performs exactly as advertised. It's pretty sweet. If it isn't quite right, loosen all the little nuts, lock the shifter down & lock the shift fork shaft, give everything a wiggle, tighten it down again like he says & it should work perfectly. It's what I did. First try didn't feel quite right -- had a hard time finding 1st & 2nd. After re-trying, it worked perfectly. It's very fun to drive.

    Must have shifter upgrades for any manual VW. I couldn't be more of a VW fanboy but Ill be the first to admit we haven't had a good manual transmission in a long time. I find it odd when I see so many car journalists heralding the manual trans in recent VWs, like it is an s2000 or miata. These things have a ton of slop from the factory. Great mod

    • @kain0m
      @kain0m Před 2 lety +1

      I find this strange, because in my opinion, VW shifters are excellent. That being said, I am in Europe and drive mostly small Diesels, so maybe there's a difference. I always felt that they struck a great balance between direct and forgiving. In my Seat Ibiza (basically a VW Polo) one could literally throw it into gear (as in, knock the shifter from 3rd towards neutral, let go, and ot would jump into 4th). Also, it just loved fast shifting.
      I also drove a lot of manual BMWs, and I found their shifters to be awful. Unprecise, sloppy, moving under engine torque, and generally not "fun".
      My little Suzuki Swift on the other hand has a rifle-like feel to the shifter, but it doesn't like to be bang-shifted.
      I guess it comes down to personal preference. Maybe the European spec is also tuned differently...

    I would say if you stiffen up the shift linkage with a kit like this, don't put constant pressure on the shift knob while it's in gear. I have seen people do this some times while keeping their hand on the shifter. This could in theory cause premature wear inside the transaxle. Specifically the shift forks and/or syncronizer hubs. Just my two cents anyway.

    • @OwlManoloPR13
      @OwlManoloPR13 Před rokem

    When sliding the the shifter linkage into the endlinks, do they just go in all the way before tightening all of the allen heads or is there something specific with the notch you mentioned? I'm guessing it just takes a little trial and error.

    Hey man, I have one question if you could give me some advice on.
    I have an Audi A6 C6 2.0tdi manual, 170bhp.
    Clutch has been changed very recently, and also transmission oil, but i have 2 problems that are persistent.
    1st is when the car is cold, especially if it's colder outside, it's harder to get into 1st and 2nd gear, but as soon as it's driven for about 20mins, it's completely normal.
    2nd problem is that I have random shakes on idle.
    I thought it was DMF, but since it was changed as part of clutch, it didn't help with this issue.
    It's not always there, and I couldn't spot anything alongside it to help diagnosing an issue.
    There is only one thing more, but I wouldn't say it's anything to do with issue number 2, and that is when the car is doing DPF regen; you can see RPM slightly higher on idle, and that's when if you were to rev up, you would be able to hear some rotational grinding noise as the RPM naturally goes back to idle.
    I would say that could possibly be water pump bearing, but I've no leaks nor any other issues.
    Sorry for extensive comment and non related issues, but I thought it's better to state all at once than only one related to transmission :D
    Thank you very much in advance and for your videos!

    are you able to verify if this kit will also work on the gen 2 Tiguan? I have the unicorn 6 speed and aftermarket support is sketchy at best because nobody can really verify any fitment. I've already done stage 3+ clutch, k04 and stage 3 apr software along with a million other small things but a short shifter has been on my list for a long time but cant really find any concrete information on one that will work. any information would be great. love the channel and all the knowledge you share!

      2) I’d think so. Vw has used this setup on so many cars. You do have a rare bird Tiguan which is awesome.

And yeah, it's definitely a fun car, I know not many were brought in to the united States and if I'm correct even less were produced in the Wolfsburg facility, mine being produced in Wolfsburg makes it even cooler in my eyes, definitely been a fun learning process working on it forsure! Thank you again and keep up the great videos!

    In the DAP vid, they lock down the shift tower with the pin before installing essentially all the new parts. Why do you recommend against this until you are locking in the cables?

    turns out the base golf 8 sold in europe (not the gti or the r, but the ones with the 1.5 tsi) has a different linkage system from the gti and the r. probably the short shifter would work anyway, but I'm not totally sure. Sure thing is that it has a lot more plastic than the one on the video and the "right" cable positioning is different.

    Can confirm breaking the lock tab sucks ass. Had to pull my shift tower to properly remove my old one and I'm unable to reinstall a new one so the hole it goes in is just plugged with a rubber plug to keep the trans from leaking fluid
