The only negative I have is the number of little things you have to remember after each turn...move up tracks, power up dice, take resources, move the eclipse counter.. we play with a print out from BGG that is a kind of housekeeping checklist.
yes, some player aid cards with a summary of relevent rule aspects would have been great. Otherwise, fantastic game mechanic-wise and asthetically.
Teotihuacan was not just apart of the the Mayans but other ethnic groups as well. 3:03
they also did not seem to have any clear leaders there is no evidence like statues ect of any people of power. they were a separate civilization to the Mayans very interesting that the stone used in sun pyramid came from 3000 miles away and is a great conductor of electricity they also found some metallic spheres there, also the icons on the pyramid tiles are actually the gods represented at the temple. lol another one of my hobbies is theology im ordained but an athiest lol always found religeon a facinating area of study im super excited to get stuck into this later.

I saw you at AireCon and promised to let you know my thoughts after watching this. In my opinion I don't feel as though I'm getting anything extra out of this review compared to your shorter ones but then it's possible that this one ended up longer because of the extra complexity of the game(?)
I love your quick reviews and I'd much rather you had more time to start working on the next one than overworking yourself just to get the video a few minutes longer.
Also, I found this review in particular very valuable to me personally as I'd been side-eyeing Teotihuacan for a while but am now certain it would be too heavy and complex to make it to the table.

Shendie Dragon hey. Thanks for the message, and off course for coming to say hello at AireCon. I will try for more shorter reviews in future, this was too long. In terms of it taking me more time though, it probably didn’t. Well, it did, but likely only about an extra 30 mins. I made my bullet points, and then just talked for a bit, and suddenly, it was 20 mins. Would have taken longer working out what to cut out to make it shorter :)
I just received this last week and it looks amazing, haven't yet played it. I'm very sure I'm going to like it a lot.

@@GamingRulesVideos Well. We played our first game (3p, 2hrs) yesterday on Wednesday and we missed quite a few rules. Gamers in my group agreed that there were few poor design choices, like the arrows on the decorations :D Also VP and resources were coming from so many different sources it was hard to keep up, as was the technology track. I have to make a DIY solution about that. We had to backtrack a bit on some stuff and we totally forgot to advance on the Avenue of the Dead whenever the die ascended, oops. Today we played a second game with 2 new players (4p) which took 3½h since one of the new players is a bit AP prone and slow gamer in general. However we got the rules right this time and it was much more enjoyable. Won with 180-177-168-135, I got all three temple tracks to the bonus tile or above it, scoring a whopping 57VP on those alone.

@@hatchimmmmm I haven't played it solo I'm afraid. For me it's almost only 4p game. It's good, not the best of games.
I found your criticisms very sound and I agree with many of the points you made.
I think that set your review/tutorial above the other teotihuacan reviews out there.

I always enjoy your way of explaining games in just the right amount of time (not too long, not too short). I find it very clear and interesting as well because of your added opinion which I value.
I agree that an 'pyramid' icon on the Decoration action tile would have been a good addition. That said, I think the iconography on the Alchemy action board is a bit confusing. It implies I would receive 3 victory points plus any resource of my choice after performing the Main action because it shows a 3 vp icon and an any resource icon. I wish they'd have just left this off. I know by the rules it means that IF you place your disc on a tech tile where there is an opponents disc, that opponent receives 3vp. I suppose the 'any resource' icon is supposed to be an 'any opponents colored disc', but in most other games, that is the icon for any resource. A bit confusing, imo.
And I would have added a tracker for the Eclipses. Since there are different rules for each of the three, I think this is very important to keep track of.
Good review! Couldn't agree with you more. Remembering every little thing can get tedious but like anything the more you play the more you tend to do it automatically.
I bought this in late October, and I still haven't taken it out of the shrink-wrap. I shall endeavour to correct that this weekend.

@@GamingRulesVideos Didn't even get the game right, pffft... ;-) In all seriousness, that's a nice touch. I like it when you swap out the objects in the hexagons on the wall with things which fit the game in the video sometimes.
There isn't a Teotihuacan T-Shirt as far as I know :)
@@GamingRulesVideos I noticed the t-shirt in the final few seconds of the video and also thought it was a great touch. Can you please tell me where you got it? I'm a huge Tzolk'in fan, especially with Tribes & Prophecies! About to start my first game of Teotihuacan right now...

Great game, actually.
My biggest issue since I got my copy over a month ago is the quality of the board...It is horrendous. I had to repair it 3 times because of delaminating layers, HORRIBLE. THIS needs a new game board...Interlocking would be better at this rate.... AS I AM GLUING IT DOWN NOW and I haven't even brought this to my table... as I don't have a reg group because I don't live in the city area and attend others when I can.... As a package designer I will end up splitting the board into section and use some kind method, Velcro to Magnets to keep together...Uh
Great game and great review! One minor nit, Teotihuacan is in Central America (Mexico), not South America. I recommend using the Heavy Cardboard teaching aid to learn the game, boardgamegeek.com/filepage/169287/heavy-cardboards-teotihuacan-teaching-notes.

There are quite a few new games that require a lengthy rules outline before players can start. Initial placement is really important, for example, Coimbra and Clans of Caledonia.
According to pronunciation video: TEOTI - WHA-KHAN. Also, buying this game like tomorrow. Played it LOVED it. Definitely top 10 along with Scythe and Teraforming Mars.
Any tips for how to teach this one without it feeling overwhelming?
a good question. I've only taught the game twice, so I'm no expert, and there is a LOT going on.
So, I would start high and go low, explain the theme, then the aim of the game (to get points), cover the main areas of how you get points early on (not in detail - just say "building these bits gets you points).
Then cover the structure of the game (3 eras ending with feeding and scoring). Then explain a very high level turn sequence, and then start going into the detail. Explain the main actions first and dont mention worship. Then go back to them and mention worship.
Maybe even don't explain what all the techs do or palace spaces until someone goes there for the first time - otherwise, yeah, its too much for some people.
