  • In this video I replace the factory trailer hitch with a curt class 5 hitch (15703) on a GMC Sierra 2500hd. I also show my preferred method for relocating the trailer connector to the bumper.
I attribute my successes to god and give him the glory. Thanks be to god.

Huh, I've been putting this off because someone told me you have to pull the rear leaf spring hangers, glad to see they don't know what they were talking about.

That would definitely be a chore to change if you did. It’s pretty straightforward. I think etrailer has the installation instructions on the site for the hitches if you want to check out the one you want but I think they are all pretty similar for this truck.

I thought the bottom holes near the ball attatchment bolt into the bumper. upside down?

Those are actually for the safety chains. I’m guessing the new hitch is strong enough it doesn’t need help from the bumper.

I have a 2006 Duramax and going to buy this 15703. A friend borrowed my truck and bent the hitch and bumper down about 20% towards the ground. Does this bolt up fairly nice?

I don’t have any complaints aside from what seems like cheaper hardware, but I’ve gotten that from every hitch I’ve ever gotten. It’s worked out well. It is a little lower than the stock one.

Just put it on. Easy job. Holding it up while trying to get 2 bolts in was the toughest. Didn’t want to get reconstructive surgery on my face or skull. 🤪
This thing is a beast. Easily double the weight of the OEM. OEM was so rusted I am fortunate to have not lost a trailer with that thing.
      Replacing bumper next

Oh yeah these hitches are built way heavier than the oem. It’s hard to trust a factory one now.

Your old OEM hitch looked good compared to mine.

It was in pretty good shape I just wanted a higher tongue weight capacity and tow capacity because I use pintle rings on my trailers.

I wonder if this would fit a 2009 cadillac escalade ext?

I got this from etrailer.com. You should be able to search by vehicle on there to find one that will fit.

I’m not sure if it will fit your vehicle. I got it from etrailer.com if you enter in your vehicle it will give you a list of what hitches will fit. I think it’s just for 2500 and 3500 trucks.

@@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic okay, I got this class 3 hitch and it's a three piece. It doesn't fit because it seems to be too short to reach on both sides.
