"one thing you might be wondering, is why do me and my friends have a hard time getting our hats on straight"
It's because they are - bros. Come on. Look at the opening of the video. 😄
...why do I and my...
I suck at catching, but I really enjoy ultimate. ;-;
Brodie is always swagging out in his vids.
@Sciscope yup just search breakmark apparel
@tbertrand81 Advanced catches coming soon!
@MinnesotaVikingz Thanks bro!
I call the pancake the alligator
@mwitmer15 well i will answer you with a question. How many times do you catch a disc and immediately throw a forehand? How many times do you catch a disc and immediately throw a backhand?
@Nkolakovic a pancake or one hand?
@inthenet4 Yes Def!
@brodiesmith21 good point. I wonder if most learned to catch this way because usually at that level the force is mostly forehand and the focus is on being prepared for that rather than really focusing on getting the quickest possible throw off as quickly as possible. Might be a good idea to do catch and release drills with right v. left on top and forehand v. backhand so players can feel what works best.
These videos are great! I've been playing with frisbees since 3rd grade and I've been pretty surprised by how much i didn't know about this kind of basic stuff.
@jcdogman101 The throwoff is called a Pull...and if you drop it, hit it, smack it forward, or even if it just hits you while your running its a turnover. So be sure to either catch the pull or get the F out of the way haha!!! Good question though bro
@Sciscope breakmark apparel
@Bballpeter its oakbridge just different hole :D
Great video. A bunch of us just got together and started playing ultimate in a league and we had so many dropped passes. It's time to start using the pancake!!!
@jbrou3892 he goes to Amherst and play ball for them...hopefully after college we can play together
@Bballpeter haha close try again!
thank brodie that was a big help keep it up
Makes sense
dude you were a counselor at CLS when i went there. now ur a friggin youtube sensation! u had sideburns back then
Thanks, Brodie
Nice video. I was wondering about one handed catches. I see a lot of one handed catches on deep throws that are contested by defenders. I'm guessing it's because a one handed catch gives a receiver the best chance to catch the disc as high and early as possible ?
@Buss1n Breakmark(DOT)com check em out! cuz i got exciting news bout it soon!
Frat boyzz😂😂 but thabks tho most informative video on this topic
love it!
Brodie's glowing...
Hey Brodie
First, thanks for all you do promoting Ultimate and making it a nationally known sport. I am right-handed, and when I make a pancake catch I put my right hand under the disc. I catch the disc on the knuckles on my palm- with my right thumb on top of the disc, and cover the disc with my left hand.
Basically, I catch the disc using a normal throwing grip, so when I catch it it can be thrown with no readjustment of my grip. Are there downsides to catching it this way?
Thanks
Nick
the ending when you punch and kick the frisbees...
that was great
hahahah "That's how you catch a frisbee!"

"Ok now sir, could you cough for me please? Two strong coughs."
where is this vid? ... should b in this playlist. i need 2 watch it.
hey brodie, do you ever recommend a one-handed catch?
one year one of our rookies noticed that almost everyone was catching with their right hand under the disc, left hand on top. He asked why, and I had no idea I was even doing that. I postulated that it was easier to go straight to the forehand grip. This is what most players seemed to do without any instruction. Thoughts?
pancake.. should be changed to something more serious! hahaha.. Great vids man, helped me a lot :)
cool
hey brodie, are you able to do a video on how to sky?
i do my left hand on top, because i can get into a forehand, im more stronger on the forehand throw. I serve with a forehand
1:21 But it is also EASIER to move into a forehand throw with your right hand on bottom in this situation.
@ryan100able enough to party haha
the last part was cool
When I catch I put my throwing hand on the bottom, I feel like this lets me transition into my throwing grip faster than if it was on top. Are there any problems with doing it this way?
Any tips for catching a hammer that goes over your head? I can catch regular throws over my head easily, but the over the head hammer tends to bounce off my palm.
you should number your videos so that its easy to figure out the order.... thanks
I tend to get serious bruises when i catch the disc. the curve side of the disc hit me hard when i did pancake catch. Is that because of the way im catching or im just too slow for the disc? If my protective parents found out about the bruises, no frisbee for me. :( Any ways to avoid bruises?
Was this filmed on the Oak Bridge course?? lol
I enjoyed ultimate when my PE class did a unit of it. But one time I was about to grab the frisbee cause it was coming right at my face, but my hands were ever so slightly off, the disk skimmed my fingers then hit me at my nose and eyes section. My vision was blurred for about 10 minutes after ward, and I had a small mark above my nose where the frisbee hit me.
@brodiesmith21 Sorry, Ponte Vedra Golf and Country Club lol
Fricken Josh
Pancake catch a disc.
Now cross your arms across your chest.
Same arm is on top O.o
Haha you on a golf course Brodie?
I am much better at forehand than backhand, is that fine?
Also i generally use backhand for shorter passes and forehands for longer passes
Gaming with Saarang you must be an inexperienced thrower. I had same problem when I was beginner. I would throw 60 yard with forehand and not be able to throw past 30 yards with backhand. Just practice hucking, that is all you need to do.
who does your bro play with?
The real voice and recording is different also to activate comment you need to download CZcams stodio
I drop the Frisbee and my friends too
It's ok bro just keep trying I'm 12 and my brother taught me how to throw more accurate and further now. Also, he taught me how to catch more efficiently and time throws in and out of the wind. Just keep trying you'll get it down eventually. :D
+Hp Chryso okay I did catch it Brodie is very good catcher I'll try it that next time
HEY BRO! I'M FROM PHILIPPINES PLAYING FRISBEE BUT WE DON'T HAVE ANY DISC BECAUSE ITS CRACKED AND I HOPE YOU WILL GIVE ATLEAST 2 OR 3 DISC
You were using a
Wham-o
I know why you need your dominate hand on top!!! For the Gator chomp!! Go Gators!!
Pancakes for breakfast.
I personally find I catch way better with one hand
nobody does 2 hands
this video is very 2011
Is that your brother, Brodie?
Shawn Caruso yes it 'tis
For some reason I'm better at one handed catches than pancakes. And I'm better at flicking it than backhanding it. No idea why.
I’m more curious where I can get a clone of myself to play throw with me.

Thats the way i normally do it i call it the sandwich 8)
Tanc
what happens if you're running full speed and the disc flies high?
I oddly can only catch with one hand (right); pancake and left don't work for me
OMG EVERYONE IS ASKING THE SAME QUESTION THAT'S BEEN ANSWERED OVER 9000 TIMES!!!!!
you sponsored by break mark now?
5:13 IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!
a one handed miss is better than a two handed catch
Hey, Brodie. One thing for a pancake catch I noticed quite some new player does is they got two hands out but their hands are parallel to each other and thus if they got a bit nervous, they might catch the disc but seconds later the lost it because the hands just flex on either way. Which I might suggest a two hand but least cross with some angle, right angle is difficult so just make sure they are not parallel to each other so a flex wouldn't happen so quick and lost a point easily.
Why are you on a golf course?
what about frisbee tips for short people 😂😂
Pancake? Being @ UF, shouldn't you call it "The Gator Chomp"?
what type of frisbee do you use? please thumbs up so he sees.
nice echo...
Tell you're friend to work out his traps lmao he looks weird with no traps and broad shoulders.
I've played disk or years and have always caught it with one hand (either hand)
dominant hand on the bottom and hold you thumb up, no need to reposition for a backhand at all.
Just want to warn people that this is a troll, and not the advice of the video.
c4tch uhm im not a troll, im just saying that i use the pancake with my dominant hand on the bottom with your thumb upwards since this way you dont have to rearange your hand much for the backhand or the forehand, you only have to reposition your pink and ringfinger when you want to do the forehand.
Who’s here because your playing this in gym class and you suck at catching?
0:10 I though that was my stomach
