I really like how the secret to beating Gas the whole time was just becoming stronger than Gas, who would have guessed 🙃
Lol seriously. I'm not sure why we expected anything else in dragon ball!
I knew that's how it was gonna be when gas had a flashback of bardocks final blow
It's more like wanting to win no matter what. Focusing on that and nothing else. A fighter that doesnt want to go down and keeps going forward is very fustrating.
Is simple: Gas doesn't understand to have true fighting spirit, he is a tool in essence. That's why he became confused and lose control, he didn't understood to push forward no matter what like Bardock did. That's the secret.
@@victorcippitelli2242 I actually like this interpretation, though I do wish we would've had spent more time learning about Gas' relationship with the crew prior. I feel like the idea is there, he summons weapons and tools, he only fights for his crew and nothing else, Goku is even poking fun at it, and Bardock continuing to fight because of his fiery spirit. Maybe it's because the chapters take a fucking century to come out that the threads are lost with time, and not enough time is spent with it. But I really like this idea.
Honestly, with Raditz and Goku dying together, technically the wish cancelled itself out since they were on opposite sides of a death match. Not a bad wish.
Or maybe the wish was granted when Vegeta exploded without Goku and Radditz on it. Imagine it could have been only Vegeta and Nappa that survived until Broly became canon
Very good point there.
Raditz didn't exactly thrive though.
@@firionkaiser8291 technically he did both him and Goku did just in different ways do to difference in upbringing and then they died at the same time
😂 sure but it doesn't change the fact we don't know Jack shit about Raditzs life an probably never will an yes you can refuse a wish but it's an ass pull here not like Goku on Yardrat I'd never be so selfish as to wish for only my kids safety an on top of that he didn't even die and caused the extinction of his own race Minus Bardock is a dick.
I feel like that "determination" or "instinct" that Bardock is tapping into is going to tie directly into Goku's personal form of Ultra Instinct that Whis has been alluding to since the Moro Arc. I wouldn't call this an asspull quite just yet.
It’s not an ass pull
We already know that saiyans can break bast their limits when they’re in extreme life or death situations
@@leultrainstinct406 except he wasnt. Unless he went through some shit like vegeta did against goku or was nursed back to health like goku was on namek it doesnt work here.
@@leultrainstinct406 That shit occurs AFTER the battle. Not during, unless extreme rage which is only temporary. What Bardock did , was nothing of the sort and just happened.
@@leultrainstinct406 that only applies when thy get healed most commonly called ZENKAI
@@UnifiedEntity Thats literally wrong. Goku had MUTLIPLE zenkai boost and expontially grew throughout the tournament of power, which was only 1 hour. Goku even confirms this, Saiyans DO get stronger in battle, not just from injuries.
I actually think the way Bardock won was actually very smart. He did gain a zenkai or rage boost but he also took advantage of Gas reckless behavior. Just before Bardock delivered the final blow, Gas was starting to lose his mind questioning Bardock determination and even Elec got pissed because Gas used his primal form which means he was out of control and not focused . Notice when Bardock fought a focused Gas, he was losing but when he fought an out of control Gas, he won. It kind of ties in to previous villains when they are no longer focused and raging monsters, they leave themselves open to attack and make bad fighting decisions.
Exactly idk how people missed that.
Facts
It still leaves us with the question with how will Goku and Vegeta defeat him though. Even if Bardock was smarter and had a zenkai boost to surpass Gas, there wasn't a special technique used nor did it show any glaring weaknesses. Gas has controlled his primal form now + with the huge power boost from the dragon balls so unless Goku and Vegeta further unlock Ultra instinct/Ego or fuse I cant see how they'll win.
intense emotions drain its energy that's when it can be attacked
He is a brilliant scientist
I think Bardock’s power increase could have happened because for the first time in his life he was fighting for more than just himself. He was protecting others, and he was mentally free from the shackles of Frieza.
Think about it he asked for his kids to grow up well. Ask yourself which saiyans actually survived planet vegeta being blown up. The wish made a difference
Idk it's hard to say if it made a difference or not because goku was sent to earth before the gas and bardock fight even happened.
@@onelove.nohate you mean after???
@@onelove.nohate lmfao WRONG
Yea and the dragon made sure bardock would be alive to send goku to earth
At the end of the chapter elec missed the shot when he never missed
@@leultrainstinct406 Yo I didn’t think about it like that cus ur right Elec clearly said he missed somehow and I’d like to think that the Wish also gave bardock awareness which is why he had a weird premonition of the fate of the saiyans almost like a unique wish given foresight.
The way Bardock won may have been the weakest to some but it isn’t as damaging to the Dragon Ball story as most theories are. A lot of ppl wanted Bardock to have some type of unique form but failed to realize that fan service makes no sense. Remember in this time period, Frieza is the strongest in the universe. Gas is not stronger than Frieza. If Gas was stronger than Frieza, the heeters would’ve taken out Frieza. Bardock gaining a new transformation or power would’ve created plothole because it would’ve raised the question of why didn’t he defeat Frieza with this power. Toyotaro and Toriyama kept the power scaling under first form Frieza. Bardock barely defeated Gas through a zenkai boost and Gas being reckless. This was the best course of action not an Ikrai, false super saiyan or super saiyan forms. We don’t need that stuff because it’s good fan service plus if Bardock did gain those forms wouldn’t the scouters have picked up on such power.
i didn’t want to see any kind of “new form” what i wanted to see was a
messy dirty fight complete with bare knuckle brawling
sucker punches
low blows,
surprise cheap shots an feints backhanded vicious guerrilla tactics..something like a mix of vegeta was during the namek arc..& mortal kombat😉😎how’s that sound.. an if they had to do pull a power up out of know where give bardock his Psycho powers from the movie.. he’d have future sight: precog
telepathy / mind reading like he did
Just wanted Bardock to outsmart him bro, or for Monaito to use the dragonballs to heal him at least which would better explain the zenkai
@@jayclearmen411 bro the physic powers was the dumbest fuckin thing ever. I’m so glad they didn’t do that dumb shit.
The way bardock won makes complete sense
Idk what y’all expected but he won because he has a strong reason to fight, unlike gas who fights because he’s a tool
I agree Bardock getting a new form would have made no sense. I wanted more of a strategy involved in defeating Gas like a weak point or just a weakness in general that they could exploit. I wanted them to continue to tap into Goku and Vegeta’s tactical side and abilities to adapt in battle.
Bardock redeemed himself by protecting Granolah and Monaito. It certainly should have been possible for him to be granted the privilege of keeping his body in the afterlife.
I hope at some point we see Goku meet his father!
Ah yes, forget killing multiples species of people, potentially millions of lives, he saved two people after killing everyone they knew
So, the secret to defeat Gas is... plot armor.
Yes
Literally.
Oh boy I hope goku has enough of that stuff to beat gas *hugs pillow😦
That pretty much the secret to have most character get defeat in fiction in general. The major difference is how well the author explain themselves and how open the audience is to accepting it.
We have been waiting months for this and all he ends up doing is blasting Gas away while in a powered up base form.
Bardock talking about Saiyans overcoming their limits sounds a lot like Vegeta’s speech to Belmod near the end of the Tournament of Power, and the progression to Ultra Instinct in general, about limit-breaking and “we Saiyans have overcome our limits multiple times in this short tournament” (paraphrase). I get that sense much more than any Zenkai.
It's not bardock who talks like vegeta. It's vegeta who talks like bardock.
@@vincentiaexhibition955 From the creative point of view, I mean they planted that idea back in the tournament of power and are kind of calling back to it here. Yeah chronologically Bardock said it first
Also, Vegeta said it to Granola earlier in the saga
@@vincentiaexhibition955 Tard detected. Lmao this whole " Determination Instinct"..if any Character has it its fookin Vegeta! And that why people loved Vegeta, this shi is so bad, lmao screw the series..time to let go of nostalgia💯
@@SmokingzMagiczTreez bardock>>>>>>>>vegeta
Mabye it has something to do with selflessness. Goku finding out his father really cared about him, the saiyan race, and still have the resolve to go after enemies much stronger than he is. I think Goku will accept who he is and where he comes from more knowing Bardock loved him.
I feel like this chapter confirmed that once a saiyan loses their tail, their potential is easier to unlock. Only thing that makes sense.
When you think about the u6 saiyains it makes even more sense
Bro what you just said is literally the only thing that makes any kind of sense to me throughout the entire chapter.
It doesn't make sense though. You would think the opposite would apply. How would losing a limb make you stronger lol. It sucks we have to make these head cannon explanations because of the DBS ridiculous ass pull power ups.
@Kelvis Nouel plausible but sounds a bit wonky. People get asspull power ups all the time. Honestly I'd hope losing the tail has nothing to do with the power up.
@@luckyhands64 I mean, every canon super saiyan we've ever seen has been tail-less. This has been a personal theory for awhile but this chapter kind of spells it out. Almost immediately after bardock losing his tail, he gets some weird pseudo super saiyan power-up.
So we finally found out how Bardock beat Gas..... by wanting to... really hard.
Just gotta hit him…real hard…together? 😏
Don't forget the power of friendship
@@grimdaggz Because Trunks believed in the Heart of the Cards, he was able to draw...
SWORDS OF REVEALING LIGHT!!
Bardock: * crying and punching ground * I wanna. I wanna beat Gas. I wanna. I wanna! I wanna! I wanna!
Go Han deafeated cell because goku said push harder not a ass pull? He had one arm and half his strength?
Bardock won the fight on relying on his saiyan instincts. That was the whole point of the chapter. He didnt back down, was true to his resolve, and his body instinctively reacted to his fight or flight demenaor.
EVEN human beings at times when facing a life or death situtation instinctively tap into unknown strength we physiologically manifest based on the resolve to live. Examples being people lifting up cars or children moving pianos to save a loved one trapped underneath.
Also, the wish to "grow up well" means the age of reaching a healthy adulthood. Which was fullfilled once both goku and radditz became adults.
Facts
Best interpretation so far.
Bardock was a beast in this chapter, Monaito also deserves props for saving him by taking that spear
Bardock literally got a tail ass pull
LoL
And defeated that Gas clown
LoL
Facts 👏👏👏🙌🏽❤️
So the mystery of how Bardock defeated Gas, is the same way everybody in Dragon Ball has ever beaten anybody…..there’s no way we’re not being trolled by Toriyama at this point.
Well, it makes sense. Think about it, when was the last time Goku blatantly won a fight and without help? Goku either gets beaten or gives up. Or has help from an outside source. Goku never truly fights on his own. His battle with Gas was purely 1v1. Goku can't really tap into the anger he used to face Frieza. Because he needs to use Ui. It makes a lot of sense.
It clearly went over your head
The point is
Bardock fights for sheer victory over his opponent
Not to surpass himself like goku or pride like Vegeta
But to win
You missed the point, Bardocks sheer fighting spirit and desire to win for no other reason than because there was an opponent in front of him confused and frustrated Gas, it started to make him loose control, thats what Gas's weakness is.
@@MrJokerSenpai exactly. And in case it went over more people’s heads
Gas is a tool. And a weapon to be used. That’s why he literally fights with tools.
Deep down he knows his reason for fighting isn’t strong like bardocks so it made him lose control.
People who say this arc is all about fighting that’s the entire theme. Reasons for fighting.
@@leultrainstinct406 well that’s really dumb
Bro this plot point was the BIGGEST waist of time, good lord. If all Bardock did to win, was just get stronger after pushing yourself during a fight,
What does this even matter? That’s all Goku and Vegeta ever do! Especially Goku!
This was literally here for fanservice so Goku can just learn “oh hey I had a dad!”

Yoo welcome to the future
The biggest issue in analyzing this chapter seems to be in comparing OG Bardock to Toriyama's Bardock and that once people realize that the two will be different the choices made in the chapter seem fine because they coincide with how this Bardock has been built up.
Overall, this chapter was good in my opinion. It fills in the gap of why Bardock had a bad feeling about Freeza recalling the Saiyans and foreshadows something I feel will be important in the climax and this arc overall, that seflish wishes only bring doom and the purpose of the dragon balls is to bring hope, which is even reminiscent of what Kami said in Dragon Ball about why he created the dragon balls.
In my opinion, the idea of a weak spot or Bardock becoming a SSJ would be lazy writing, but what they did illustrates that the selfish wishes of both Gas/Elec and Granolah will be their downfall, that what will bring hope is a selfless wish, which has always been the case in Dragon Ball.
So well stated yo...💯💯💯💯
Yea i agree , Geekdom comperes it too much to og Bardock and gets angry and say it is retcon etc. I chapter was decent at least imo , not the best , not the worst either still solid . I preffer more the og Bardock as well but c'mon.
Very well said!
I don’t see any strong differences between the two
Old bardock just had more screen time to show how brutal and determined he can be.
Dbs bardock has those exact traits.
Both risked their lives to save their loved ones
NEVER interrupt a Saiyan's fight, especially if they're having a gas!
I think Elec telling Bardock or more so hinting at the demise of the saiyans is really clever, The Heeters are space pirates who prioritze information so Elec knowing about the events to come made perfect sense.
In my opinion by Bardock getting his tail ripped off the way it was mid fight while receiving damage while still in human form … everyone else had gotten it removed while in ozaru form was the key to him unlocking greater strength and was no longer hindered by the great ape transformation … it let him tap into a different power
Wish for anything!
....give my son plot armor!
Good chapter! So determination and resolve is what will beat Gas. Bardock's power boost and relentless attacks pushed Gas to loose control over himself. So in present time Gas was able to reclaim his resolve and determination while transformed and fighting Granolah. This is why Gas tells Goku "you don't have the same resolve as your father". Now Goku will be made whole by the revelation of his father and become more skilled and powerful with perfected ultra instinct. This will push Gas into losing his resolve and lose control over his inner nature.
Excellent observation!
Sooooo are we going along with the idea that through the entirety of Dragon Ball Goku has never been determined or had resolve?
Don't know how this helps Goku defeat him. Whis did tell Goku that to get UI to the next level is to accept who he is. Goku hasnt really accepted that he is a Saiyan but Bardock did in this chapter.
Nothing defeated gas lol
@@courtjestersc46 not in a way the affects ultra instinct. This is about creating his own ultra instinct. This is about his inner self. Not simply defeating an opponent.
To me the ‘grow up well’, was ambiguous, but I think the result of the wish allowed them to survive planet Vegeta’s destruction and be given the opportunity to grow up to adulthood. Other then that I don’t think it did much else.. maybe they’ll elaborate in the future, but probably not.
There’s nothing else to elaborate on
They don’t need to spoon feed every message to us lol
@@leultrainstinct406 I like being spoon fed. I wanna know was Goku under the protection of a wish for the entirety of OG DB or not. Maybe that's why he fell and bumped his head as a baby and one didn't die, and two become a kind hearted kid in the first place
@@presidentc4 look at what moniato said right after
They left it open and ambiguous because
Whether he made a wish to the dragon or not it’s the fact that he even thought of the wish in the first place that creates hope for the future because it’s for the betterment of others.
I don't think Frieza likely told the Heeters directly about the plans for Planet Vegeta. Since they are information gatherers, it's believable they have an informant,
Thanks Geekdom for all you do 🙏🏼
“Some villain with a twisty mustache” 😂😂
On one hand I really like they are adding more to the characters as I do think a lot of the characters as is from the original manga/show hit plateaus and never went anywhere else but they are adding more to characters like bardock, Vegeta, Gohan, piccolo etc but I just wish it was done a little more seamlessly
Yeah which I think is one of the key factors of this. Bardock is actually becoming fleshed out with every instance he’s including. Although Toryiama has to retcon stuff, it’s atleast an attempt since look at the Z fighters. The TOP gave them something for the first time in AWHILE.
it’s Total BS imo! i mean they could have expanded on much better if they stuck with bardock gaining the extraordinary Psychic powers frieza was after when they attack that one planet!
his future sight from the psychic powers that he gained from father of goku. would make sense an explain everything
he’d beat gas by reading his mind it be like precognition. instead we get lazy writing =DETERMINATION
Plus him being cursed with the psychic powers would explain why he made the wish that his sons would be ok. his glimpse of the future through his second sight ties up things perfectly.
Plus it would’ve explained why he had felt he had to get involved without completely changing his character.. Bardock is supposed to be a ruthless stoic soldier cold blooded.. the opposite of goku he does not have sympathy
or empathy he only gains it after he becomes cursed with the psychic gift dude wouldn’t be able to do his job killing an slaughter millions if otherwise.
I think it’s been done just fine. Just be glad they didn’t get the gt treatment lmaoo
@@jayclearmen411 seeing the future bs was the biggest ass pull lol
@@leultrainstinct406 stop you’re too logical for them
Personally, I think Bardock's tail getting removed played a part in him seemingly getting a mild, zenkai boost which was just enough to deliver the final blow so to speak. And like he states in the ch, Saiyans grow and evolve every time they're pushed past their limits and clearly he was in their fight. I also think maybe he was able to access some power of the Great Ape despite having his tail removed, similar to Broly against Goku when he went Berserker (Ikari).
Probably, but in this case, he has conscious control of himself
"This guy's a real pain in the ass..."
I was thinking something similar. Mans got his whole tail forcibly removed lol
I agree 100%
Bruh. Zenkais require NEAR DEATH. The community thinks a paper-cut will give someone a zenkai
Bardock: "I'd wish that my sons end up thriving"
Raditz: "💀"
Raditz has to come back now!
I mean when Toei finally adapts this into the anime, maybe they'll add onto it to help some scenes from the manga make sense or explain it more on why Bardock was able to get a Zenkai like boost despite not being nearly fatally injured. For all we know Toriyama and Toyotaro are pulling a Dragonball Super anime Tournament of Power situation where these Saiyans get Zenkai's though not getting healed properly and having very little rest, like Cabba and the likes of Goku and Vegeta whom may have been able to tap into a piece of the Zenkai boost they were gonna get through a little bit of rest after any injury they sustained. However it'll be up in the air if that's what happened with Bardock.
We now know it wasn't just a hunch; he's been suspicious of Frieza for a long time. This is what I call a good retcon, and it doesn't take away from his story in any way, and it's surely better than Bardock having visions. I disagree; the new backstory improves the new Bardock and provides us with a more fleshed-out version than the one we had previously.
Also, the power increase he got is basically a rage boost and him pushing past his limitations, which is something saiyans do all the time, so it's not the worst thing ever imo and way better then him getting super saiyan.
No, no, nope.
The Bardock we had before was an ordinary saiyan who was thrown into an extraordinary situation via his own actions.
The visions were a punishment inflicted on him, one which only served to torture him a bit.
DBS Bardock on the other hand is a special snowflake married to another special snowflake, that's all. He barely has an character to speak of.
I agree, it's not really a 'retcon', it's more supplementary
@@gsp6517 "He barely has a character to speak of" literally most of what you said about dbz Bardock can also be applied to dbs Bardock lol.
I agree. He talks about it being akin to Saturday morning cartoons, but there’s literally nothing more cartoony than some dude having visions.
When Monito said that he was unconscious during Bardock vs Gas, does he mean that part where Bardock blasted Gas and defeated him, because after that when Elec shot him, and he was laying there in the forest, it showed Monito unconscious under a pile of rubble.
Yup
Man it's been 7 years? I been listening to you since a little right before I joined the navy, which is wold. Here to many more years dude, and thanks for the great content:)
If Vegeta can get enraged and land a hit against Beerus when he slapped Bulma, then I’m sure Bardock can get a boost and take out a considerably weaker Gas than we have now
Geekdom is comparing two different Bardocks. And still getting his shit wrong.
@@Cloudx0x yeah I don’t get it. This new Bardock is in the current story, so him getting a powerup like Trunks or Vegeta isn’t that farfetched
@@sirpoppington1 Geekdom doesn't get that though. Dude is too focused on nostalgia. That's his problem. He keeps trying to see both Bardocks as one. Then calls it a retcon. Bardock appears in the db manga, but not his backstory. Shit was completely noncanon. Meaning what's happening now isn't a retcon. He thinks Bardock having visions is better. 😂
Difference is Vegeta didn't finish Beerus with a energy blast
Desire for victory is the key for Goku to unleash his Ultra instinct which he learned from Bardock
He had that desire since the beginning he didn't learn shit from bardock
@@cheeseburgerfreddy6350 not really, he lost his desire in this battle because he tried to stay calm like whis through out the battle but failed. Bardock: I wish for my son's to grow up well
Dragon: your wish has been half granted.
Raditz and Bardock:....what?
Well they grew up well but that doesn't mean they will not die. Raditz died when he was adult
@@vincentiaexhibition955 when it said grow up well, do you think Raditz was growing up well do you think being constantly humiliated, having the power of a Saibaman is growing up well?
In terms of a saiyain I'd say growing up fighting and even dying in a glorious way (as long as they got revived) would qualify as growing up well. Raditz just kinda got shafted though
I never expected for Bardock to go Super Saiyan, but I did thought that he would transform into a Great Ape since he had a tail during his fight with Gas, until Gas ripped of the tail. A smart move by Gas.
I ALSO thought Bardock was going to get his power from the Cerealian Dragon to defeat Gas like Granola & Gas did in the present, but it was a selfish wish so Moniato wanted to wish to transport Bardock away from Gas, but Bardock wanted to fight Gas until he defeated Gas.
So Bardock best Gas ALL ON HIS OWN with NO transformations OR any power from the Cerealian Dragon.
The heaters are Prolly the ones that warned Frieza about the legendary super saiyan after seeing bardock fight
Magical wish granting dragon is basically the text box asking you if you wish to use fast travel
10:35 Danny I have to disagree my friend. Even the TV special version of Bardock overcame his limitations....though it wasn't worded as poorly as in this manga chapter. When his crew was ambushed by Dadoria and his men that was one example of it
@Nerdy_Trucker I agree. (Don't like comparing them). But in the past O.G. Bardock was literally battle damaged on Planet Vegeta, near deat, and went through like 40 men before getting to Frieza.
@@DanielLopez-dl5gw That still happened with DBS Bardock. Right before he died in Broly movie he was heavily damaged with many fireza soldiers around him. How can people miss that ? They just didnt show because the movie was supposed to be 3 hours long, but for obvious reasons they cut it to half
@@razien9941 nope. True he did fight Friezas men and get to Frieza in Broly. But he wasn't badly damaged like in the o.g. movie before getting to Planet Vegeta and facing off against friezas men.( Which would indicate a Zenkai boost in the special.)
Just a reminder; the original special he gets point blanked by Didoria and has to fly back to Vegeta to warn everyone. In which no one believes him.
It's not that I didn't miss him confronting Frieza in Broly. It's that it happened under different circumstances. He stayed behind because he wasn't sure what was going to happen and tried to stop Frieza in Broly. In the o.g. special, he chooses to confront frieza even though he's hurt and couldn't even defeat Didoria, and KNEW Planet Vegeta was going to be destroyed.
While in Broly he has time to rest. He literally has at LEAST a full day. Because he sends off Goku the night before.
Two VERY different scenarios, and to be honest o.g. Bardock was dumb as hell. "I'm hurt but ima fly up to what is essentially a dude who can summon what looks like a sun with his finger. And try to fight his ass, while I'm bloody and banged up from one of his lower henchmen who blasted me away like he was cosplaying Godzilla.."
... which goes back to, I don't like to compare them because they are two very different fighters and people.
Exactly wtf is he talking about lol
I think my favorite part of this review was the fact that you absolutely acknowledged that some people will like this, and that's perfectly okay. I don't know, it seems like a small thing I guess but it's really cool that you respect the views of others even if it kinda goes against your own thoughts. Good stuff Geekdom.
I personally didn't have an issue with the power up, but I could definitely see how them going back and messing with this is.. just... a bit frustrating.
That’s obvious. I mean some people will like anything.
@@dannysmi7162 some people will hate anything too lol
@@WhisperingNavajo It's weird how only the people who like things are apparently the problem and not the people who dislike it. This goes both ways of course but it's funny.
The power up was great
It revolves around a powerful theme: reasons for fighting
The stronger the reason, the stronger a fighter is. Even when they have a disadvantage
And it’ll tie in perfectly with goku because he’s never had the same fighting spirit bardock has
Happy Holiday Everybody
The o.g bardock used determination to go through like 100 Frieza soldiers
This literally happens all the time how is it a surprise it’s goku dad goku get these power ups all the time hell every sayian does this and you saying it’s lazy writing you say everything is lazy writing but yet be hype as hell for every spoiler every chapter anything but always complain
This was a 50/50 flashback chapter, but as it continues more questions and earlier questions aren’t answered, depending on the situation did Monaito wish to give Bardock power? If the wish went Bardocks children how would that affect them? How did Bardock get back home especially since Frieza is on his way to the planet?
The wish was that Bardock's children would thrive. A wish that directly affects destiny like is pretty much uncharted territory for us. So I'm not entirely sure on my guess.
But from what I can tell, the dragon manipulated events so that both Raditz and Goku would survive the destruction of planet Vegeta. That's why there were so many conveniences in the chapter. Goku survived Vegeta's destruction because he was sent away by Bardock and Gine after they found out about Freeza's plan. To that end, Bardock got a power boost to defeat Gas, Elec slipped him some info alluding to Vegeta's destruction, and the event in question was far enough away that, the Freeza forces that arrived on cereal had no reason to kill Bardock.
As for Raditz, he and his team were sent to a higher level world before they were ready and as a result weren't able to comply with Freeza's orders to come back to Vegeta. This allowed him at least to survive. And while serving under Freeza wasn't ideal, when he showed up on earth, there wasn't any indication that he hated his life up to that point. And in the end he went down in battle like a warrior with complete confidence that he would be avenged by Vegeta and Nappa.
Thanks for the review geekdom! Keep it coming.
It does fit the time line as bardock garments was ripped up when he tried to stop frieza’s ball. No one else garment was ripped up.
i think when gas cut off bardock's tail he somehow accessed the osaru's power without having to transform. like Broly when his father cut off his tail on planet bampa when he lost control. Broly can still access the osaru's power without having to transform and his strength was matched with SSB in the movie. I hope you can read this comment and give me your opinion greetings from P.R 🇵🇷.
im really hoping this is the case, i want to see an ikari master ultra instinc transformation from goku!
it would be nice
I wouldn't really say it's another 'retcon', it's more supplementary to the Broly movie. Gas and Elec only ever eluded to Frieza's plan not telling Bardock outright.
For a we know, Bardock's suspicion might have already been in the back of his mind for some time. Gas, Elec, telling Bardock what they had probably made Bardock think on his suspicion, which is how we see Bardock at the start of the Broly movie
I'm glad that your channel is close to 1 mill subs. I support this channel over the other ad ridden channels.
I miss seeing the saiyans with their "scouter" on. Love that picture of bardock with it on.
I feel like it's entirely possibly as Bardock mentions, "Saiyans adapt and get stronger" and he gets his powerup right as his tail is ripped off, that through Bardock being determined to win and his tail being cut off, that his body adjusted to it being gone and maybe some of the power of the great ape just went into him. Like maybe a more sane version of Broly's thing from the movie. Of course it's a speculation, but still. Also as someone else pointed out, it's entirely possible the wish just got canceled out when Goku and Raditz killed themselves because up until that point they both lived well enough.
As a last thing, I'd rather Bardock be suspicious of Frieza from someone telling him something cryptic about Frieza than him just... being able to see the future lol. I think him being able to see the future from some random fish alien that he just so happened to run into before Frieza decided to blow up Vegeta is also rather convenient and weird as "fine" as it seemed to us back in the day.
plus bardock is an adult so he having a sane version of ikari makes senses after mastering the great ape, the whole reason broly goes beserk is because he wasnt trained to control great ape. I really hopel they keep pushing foward the ikari form on top of mui as the ultimate sayain instinc.
@@acludo1278 That would be interesting. Idk if they're going that route, but it's still an interesting thought nonetheless.
@@DarkPaladinX77 bro idk why geekdom prefers some ass pull future powers over literal LOGIC. Nobody straight up told bardock. He had to connect the dots on his own. Everything gas and elec said is cryptic.
Sure the Og was more interesting, but geekdom loves to criticize writing, and that is some of the laziest writing in db.
Yet he completely ignores it. Nostalgia is one hell of a drug lol
Toei's version of Bardock was as canon as DBZ Broly as far as I'm concerned. So I don't have this negative view on Minus and it's progressions that a large portion of the fandom seems to share. Decent chapter. Wish it would've gone back to present day to confirm the revelation of Bardock's power up. If it's a zenkai boost or whatever
Completely completely agree with Geekdom on this
This fight is a parallel to Goku vs Frieza, the biggest clues were the finishing move they used and the fact that they both got rage boosts/ limit breakers. Really enjoyed this chapter
I believe the extent of the Dragon's wish was able to influence events enough for Bardock's sons to survive the extinction of the Saiyans by Frieza. Even though they died later, they still did well comparatively to other Saiyans including Bardock himself. And to Saiyans, dying in battle against a stronger opponent is no bad thing, they are like warriors have always been traditionally. Goku did well despite his tough times because he wants to fight and be in peril. He would consider his life way better than having lived in peace on a mountain.
Ghost Bardock: “Use the zenkai boost…!”
Goku: But, we trained out of that being useful.
“USE IT!!!”
They have these a million times in super
Lol Bardock just says he hopes his sons Thrive
Good morning brother!!! Love your videos!
If this version of Bardock is what the creator had in mind and not Toei, why is it so hard to sink in????? I bet if this version came first and then Toei's version, he would be saying the same thing about how he doesn't like it but will just live with it. I like this version of bardock way better. Plus this chapter was actually good
Agreed on all points
They used a whole chapter just to say bardock won because of plot armor. He was no where near as strong as Gas is meant to be in his uncontrollable form. Bardock wasn't a bad guy but in this chapter he just seems to act like goku too much
Fr. People only like "edgy" Bardock from the special because they saw that first when they were younger and nostalgia is extremely powerful.
@@Journey24215
>He acts like Goku too much.
I mean you'd think a father would be similar to his son
Couldn’t agree more, this is dragon ball all Saiyan wins fight by determination the will to win so Bardock doing that here against Gas is perfectly fine also Gas is not the same as he is now so people do have to look at it as he’s strong but way weaker.
I have mixed feelings on this chapter. Loved the fight but the ending me wanting more as I felt unsatisfied. It just felt like a sudden ending and didn't really understand how bardock won. As for the wish I thought that was real interesting and fills in a hole I always wondered why raditz was teamed up with vegeta. Why would raditz a son of a low level warrior be assigned to work with as the broly movie put it the highest potential of any saiyan in history. It happened because Bardock made a wish that his sons would thrive. Or in other words find success.
Well, it didn’t really work because Raditz is dead.
@@dannysmi7162 except at that point there really was no other option except for one of them to meet there end
@@dannysmi7162 but then again this dragon balls fullfill the request with some price right, Granolah and gas became the strongest being by sacrificing their life span..... Same goes for Bardock's sons as one of them thrived and other lived till adult before meeting his demise....
@@abhijitdey3413 and @Steven Yeah, I guess that makes sense if you assume that to be the case.
@@abhijitdey3413 Was it said somewhere that all wishes are conditional? Thought that just the wish to be the strongest in the universe had a condition.
Gaslight101 back at it again folks
Nostalgia hit you man.
I like how before bardock could see in the future but this one is still good especially if you look back at the belly movie and pay attention to how it starts with him
Seeing the future is the most random ass pull lol
@@leultrainstinct406 Fully agree. The future sight ability is not realistic at all.
Definitely enjoy this version of Bardock much more than the ‘90s. I find this more interesting and better written. The 90s Bardock was boring and the visions part of him seemed extremely random to just throw in to carry the movie to him knowing the destruction of Planet Vegeta in some way.
I know people get hooked on nostalgia, (especially in this fandom) but Tori/Toyo actually taking the time to make him someone of interest who actually has a real arc + hinting things that make sense out of Goku’s character better (in my personal opinion) & why he is the way he is.
Bardock getting cryptic messages from Elec & Gas make better sense out of the Minus Bardock. Minus Bardock simply “just having a feeling” was lazy I believe and it never sat well with me, same with just randomly having visions after an alien encounter lol. With him hearing those things from Elec & Gas, it makes sense he had that feeling in Minus now.
Zenkai boosts are well known to be the case in ALL saiyans. Bardock IS that type of saiyan, it would make LESS sense if he didn’t get a zenkai boost in that scenario. Whether you want to count it or not, Episode of Bardock OVA further shows that. If you choose not to count that, well he’s still a saiyan.
I thoroughly enjoy them taking these seemingly wooden & stale characters from the 90s (Broly/Bardock) and actually giving them life by getting rid of poorly written continuity that was given to us back then. That poorly written continuity really only resonates with us because of nostalgia I think. But when rewatching/reading with the nostalgia love lenses off, they make you scratch your head a lot because it didn’t really make sense.
As far as the chapter’s concerned, I’d prefer them to move forward with the story a bit more. It’s giving off heavy Naruto vibes with the amount of flashbacks lately. We only get 1 chapter a month, and to just get an entire flashback chapter is… p a i n.
Facts. The versions were the most random and ass pull thing lol. Everything about new bardock is organic
The old special was great as a standalone tale. But that was all it was ever intended to be: a kind of what-if set before the events of the main story. Nostalgia turns it into a masterpiece, inseparable part of canon that it wasn't.
@@inurmomsbedroom123 It wasn't a what if it was actually canon at one point since Toriyama included it into the manga.
@@Prodigy396 Bardock's rebellion was canon. The other stuff wasn't. Hence why Toriyama isn't including it in the retelling.
Bardock slept that little boy LMFAOOOO
So has it ever been confirmed The Seekers are the same type of Aliens like Zarbon?
Imagine if Monaito's wish was 'give Bardock and his family the power to overcome every foe' and that is the reason why Goku is so strong, because he's always putting himself in those situations. Vegeta would freak out lmao.
That doesn’t explain why Raditz is weak as shit
That wish would crush Goku. Knowing that it's literally the plot that allows him to win instead of will & hard work. It's the ultimate safety net. Goku becomes Saitama & will struggle to feel any excitement or desire to go on. Interesting, but please no.
@@kaitakashi6587 That is very true but it could have been said in a way that accommodates that, like 'give Bardocks family the power to overcome any evil'.
@@grimdaggz Yeah it's obviously a shit way to go with it haha
I feel like the only purpose for this chapter was to give us the Bardock vs Gas fight we were asking for earlier on but just put in a weird place with no answer as to how Goku or the rest will win against Gas.
Goku needs to combine his fathers instinct for battle with his own and develop it into a completely new instinct
LETS GO GEEKSQUAD!!!
In the Shonen Jump translation Bardock says he wants his sons to "Thrive" not "end up well"
It wasn’t a “gut feeling” in Minus or Broly. They have Bardock question things like why the Saiyans are being summoned back at once all of a sudden. And this just adds onto it giving him more reason to be suspicious. The original he’s just got magic visions through contrived means. I grew up with the original since early 90’s but I think people are just attached to the nostalgia of old bardock
Nostalgia definitly plays a part. But it's also far more consistent to what was established in Z. With minus, broly, and Super you end up having to make up your own headcannon to fit in the clear contradictions.
@@dominiquerobinson8888 I respectfully disagree. The only inconsistency with the original manga is that freeza remembered bardock and his old design for 2 panels. It may not outright spell out everything for you in the minus canon but visually you can follow bardocks thought process and this chapter just really expands on his reasoning. The Heaters hate freeza and want to spite bardock so they have reason to let things spill a bit
@@Djamp_htx facts lol. Nostalgia is one hell of a drug
@@dominiquerobinson8888 no you don’t
It’s literally right in your face
All the saiyans get summoned to the exact same spot for the first time in history
gas and elec give bardock really cryptic messages about death. Then he connects the dots.
It’s WAY better than seeing the future ass pull
@@leultrainstinct406 I’m not talking about him getting the hint about the planets destruction. I’m talking about how they changing his origin story. And I’m not even saying which ones better or worse. I’m saying if you’re gonna keep everything in Z the exact same, you can’t change the origin story
I think im even more CURIOUS about how next chapter will go. Seems to be the theme of this arc whether that be good or bad.
This arc is really good
It's hard to believe that at one point Goku was fighting General Toa by the same logic about Gas vs Bardock
It was more about Gas losing his focus/control alongside Bardock's determination. I know that feeling in fight training when the fact that the other person hasnt backed down an inch even after absorbing lots of blows tends to discourage you and is a hard thing to overcome. It happens in fights in real life often. One guy might win round 1 but was also mentally defeated by that round bc the other person looks undeterred and unbothered
I hope when this gets animated they give Bardock the "false SSJ" from the Lord Slug movie.
Why?
@@Ne-ne7qo Because it will make the power up feel less like "random BS" and give it a tie in to something we're familiar with, as well as making some nice foreshadowing to his son being a Super Saiyan.
That’ll literally never happen. The form was a botch to begin with
Still reverts to the enemy's weakness is hitting him harder.
@@grimdaggz You're not wrong but that's 80% of dragonball man. Juice up, punch harder, win
I personally liked the gimmick he used. It might sound vauge but Saiyans have a variety of instincts and one is to adapt and adjust in battle, although Broly in the movie was highlighted to do this much faster and Goku or Vegeta
Head Canon 101: time breakers changed history so that the retcons started happening
Great video! But I don't think this chapter is a letdown.
First I think it is a way better narrative choice for Bardock to detect Frieza's scheme from a villain than him just shoehorning some strange future foreseeing power. He is not some magicians lol.
Also this chapter really depicts well on Bardock's ferocity and perseverance, which can be represented by his power up. It is not simply a new form or zenkai boost but rather his pure battle instinct that let him evolve during the battle. We saw that during the TOP when saiyans were breaking their strength limits over time.
Also Bardock's ferocity nature could actually help Goku's UI, especially its accuracy problem. We know that UI's accuracy would drop over time and its duration is not perfect. Therefore this ferocity nature will keep Goku always focus on the battle and sharpen his UI accuracy, which is honestly a great way to improve Goku's UI.
How are you going to feel, though, if and when it's revealed that Monaito simply wished for Bardock to defeat Gas? It's not far-fetched and you even said that we didn't actually see what Monaito wished for but then you just throw all that out the window and make some pretty huge assumptions. I'm just sayin', you know what they say about making assumptions...
I honestly think that’s smart and very very accurate solely on the fact that at this TIME Frieza is basically stronger than majority of the universe at his base level so Gas power level would be and should be assumed not stronger than frieza final form which took a super sayian to defeat him so with that being said You have to picture Bardock being on par with Goku and Vegeta on namek for instance vegeta got boost multiple times on namek from sheer battling battle after battle and the power ups were enormous think about vegeta was getting crushed by recoom but by the time he got ready to fight Frieza final form he was 2 or 3 times stronger than Ginyu Piccolo etc besides Goku who got a enormous boost from battling ginyu and then overcoming battle with frieza wgich frieza was way stronger in the beginning so to me this story is dragon ball z at its finest I love it great backstory now it makes sense how bardock was if not the strongest sayian back then and if not the strongest if the battle weighed out he would eventually win it’s in his DNA And Goku got that same DNA
good thing we have heroes, that way everyone can pick which bardock they like and multiversal theory makes it so is not that hard to swallow so long as it works
How is it a retcon if dbz bardock isn't cannon if anything it's just giving this version a lot more depth
Bardock has always been depicted as being stronger whilst having determenation and resolve:
1. 1990 special- literally flying into space to facr frieza while taking a shit load of frieza soldiers way more then he could takr.
2. More 1990 special literally surviving zarbon and dodoria to warn the othet saiyens.
3. Episode of bardock- having the resolve to become stronger to avenge his friends thus becoming a super saiyen.
Bardocks resolve makes him stronget, though gas should still be more powefull and it should have been explained that gas 100% is not his best fighting state as he maybe losing his logical thinking and being more primal thus making more mistakes and leaving him ope for counter attacks like we see.
No wonder Goku is bardock's son
They got the same Plot Armor
It’s hereditary.
Geekdom you have alot of potential considering your ability to analyze information and articulate info to the people that care about it you would make a good TV news contributor no cap!
I think the wish was to give him the power to overcome his opponents and this could be used to bring Bardock back in the story that he survives and his power is that he will always get one up on them.
I’m ngl, I’m a bit sick of anime CZcamsrs posting manga reviews before the official releases are even out, and y’all don’t even link us.
Hard lines I’m about to draw over here
What you on about? Chapter is already released
The chapter was already released. Where do you think he got the panels from?

Y’all want Dragon ball to be so realistic in certain parts and not the other let the story unfold more and at the end of the arc come up with your opinion
I respect your comment
They´re trying to explain how Bardock got the plans to destroy the Death Star...
Like Grievous said " You must realize, you are doomed".
I liked the chapter and all but I didn't like it as much as I did the previous chapter but it's a alright chapter. After listening to the rest of the video I agree with you completely it was rather weak the only thing it did was show Bardocks personality a bit more
I'm not a fan of how they hyped up the Bardock and Gas fight, If bardock just got stronger randomly and beat Gas then should have just told us this earlier instead of wasting time. I thought Gas would of had a weakness of some sort but nope Bardock after getting thrashed the whole chapter just receives a mid battle zenkai boost and he just dominates gas, So what did Bardock do that Goku couldn't? This is just lame goku has always had fighting spirit that nonsense gas was speaking last chapter is a contradiction because Goku this whole time has been pushing past his limits, We all know how this arc will end Goku will attain Another form of UI and beat Gas and the formula repeats in the next arc.
Yep
That’s why I’ve been saying it makes no sense for Goku to even learn about his parents because this shit especially now adds nothing to his character.
Anything Bardock could teach him while dead is something Goku has probably already learned
@@jaketylenol You say it adds nothing, but it didn't get a chance to be brought into fruition yet. It's literally been one chapter.
@@TakeshiInazuma again, Goku’s character is a determined Sayain with a heart of gold who loves fighting.
By the end of Z, Goku is pretty much as fleshed out as he’s going to be as the Sayain from Planet Earth.
This is literally here for fanservice.
But Okay If you want to play this game, let’s see if Goku actually learns something or just repeats the same character arc he’s already been on to pretend he’s growing as a person
Mid battle zenkai in the ToP for all of the high end moments of the saiyans, so what do you mean by Goku can’t do that as well
You gotta remember elec is the information guy. He could've had a spy or someone leak the info.
