It makes a difference when more people start watching women play sports. That’s how these pro athletes get the big contacts. I hope more women take note of this and support their athletes, instead of watching the Kardagians and the Real Housewives of nowhere.

More people are watching? I doubt it. But if 1 million were watching and a few more people watch it because they want to see some legs, well yeah more people are watching. However, she's being given that contract not because she's worth watching but to make it look like women football is worth watching. She's over valued.

Some networks have actually taken interest in broadcasting women’s soccer in their platforms, which proves more people are watching the sport. There is no doubt the sport is not getting large ratings when compared to other sports. However, there is a growing interest. How far will that growth go? Nobody knows yet.

Women who like sports will watch. With the increase in talent and more competitive games, more people, including men who like sports, will watch. It's obvious that there is a growing interest in women's sports, as we see more female athletes get endorsement deals and name recognition that is based on their talent instead of their physical appeal to men.

And? A lot of it is political. Maybe she was not offered to play for the U.S or offer to be benched. Lots of players with dual citizenships choose based on where they feel they can maximize their potential. Once you play for one side, it’s hard to switch even if you want to. I heard Zlatan wanted to play for Bosnia first, they didn’t offer him what he wanted and they were quite arrogant. He was not the star he would later become. So he chose Sweden who gave him more.

María herself said that she grew up watching the Mexican team on television with her dad in Idaho.
From there, her desire to play for the Mexican team since she was a child was born.

@@mau7359 ok that’s fine. I don’t know her story, I was just giving a possible reason. Still there might be aspects that she doesn’t admit publicly. That fine too. But I do not it is not just that easy to switch teams. It has to be approved. Lots of players have dual citizenship and if they don’t want to allow too much switching. New updates make it easier but there is a criteria.
In particular, FIFA has added three new exceptions whereby a player may change the national team they play for.
First, it is now possible for a player to change national team even if they have played competitively at senior level, provided:
the player held the nationality of their new association at the time of their first official appearance for their first national team.
the player played in no more than three competitive senior games before the age of 21.
the player has not played in the final stage of an official tournament such as the World Cup, European Championship, Copa America etc.
at least three years have passed since the player's last senior appearance for their previous national team.

It's funny because María did meet the requirements to change her selection, but she still didn't change.
María would have her own reasons why she stayed with Mexico, but I think it is because thanks to Mexico she was able to become a professional player.
On the other hand, it is not unusual for a Mexican-American to prefer playing with Mexico rather than with the United States. When the Mexican team plays in the United States, the stadiums are filled with Mexican-Americans supporting Mexico.
By the way, I didn't know the information about Zlatan Ibrahimovic, what Bosnia missed

Unlike the WNBA, I expect women's soccer leagues to expand and grow. I expect them to make more and more money over time. $1.5 is still relatively small considering it's the largest contract. But the sport is fun to watch. The girls put on a pretty good show. Also, for the most part, they just get on with the games. There isn't an attempt to shame people into watching them because they are women, like the WNBA does.
