Thanks for the comments! The ranking in the video is about economic freedom, not personal or political freedom. It's based on a report from the Heritage Foundation. While we may not agree with everything, it's a discussion point on economic policies. Let's keep the conversation going with an understanding that freedom has various dimensions.
Oh the heritage foundation. Lol.
When someone steals from you on behalf of the State for something as petty and ridiculous as spitting on a street, then your economic freedom is directly at stake. This is just one example to make the point, but Singapore is full of hundreds of examples of similar idiocy. The West is already ridiculous with petty nonsense aimed at getting inside someone's wallet, but Singapore injects steroids into the concept to take it to a whole different level of ridiculousness. Then again, many Asian countries do.
I like your videos. But you lost me at Ireland in this one brother!
Your video title should have stated the kind of freedom you'd be addressing. By not doing so, you set the stage for much confusion. Commenters here generally define freedom by their personal freedom: your video title didn't convey your subject clearly. Specificity is a valuable communication tool of the articulate. Word to the wise.
Off topic, but - any idea why Hong Kong is out of the list? And on the subject of HK, any details about the return of investor visa - you may have mentioned something about that in one of recent videos.
If Ireland is considered one of only "four free countries left", then the whole world is truly screwed.
Exactly my thoughts. Any country that's part of the EU can't be free because they don't have control of their own affairs.
Its about how free ECONOMY is there. Listen to the guy.

There is a big difference between economic freedom which is what Andrew is talking about, and sociatal freedom. Ireland is extremely free from an economic point of view.
I am a 67 year old Canadian and retired after working and paying over 40% in income tax for 45 years , I still thought Canada was the best country to live until covid hit in 2020 the year I retired , when your government wants to seize your life time income for merely supporting a peaceful protest you might form a different opinion about them , Now in 2023 it should be obvious to everyone that governments like ours that are beholden to non elected bodies such as the WHO and WEF are not working for the people but for a hidden agenda that will not go well for the working class , I am no longer a proud Canadian and having to admit that hurts because our forefathers fought for our freedom and now we are just handing it away without a fight !

I was thinking same. In fact there is NO country I would feel was safe to move to. If you really want to survive to live in an apocalyptic future of madness then your best bet is probably to homestead bunker in some remote wilderness and bribe the county clerk to erase where that homestead is (I'm remembering Ruby Ridge here.) You'll then need some decades worth of food, water, air, clothing, medical supplies, forms of entertainment.. and lots of weapons.

I am sure that for this guy Russia is free
If Australia or New Zealand are in the top 190, the index is garbage.
New Zealand on 5th lol
Or, if Australia is above Thailand, that's total garbage.
This is Economic Freedom index but I would cross New Zealand off my list as they are terrible on personal freedoms/natural rights. I would not doubt they will implement a CBDC and whatever the WEF/WHO tells them to do. They are totalitarian in nature just like their other British brethren. The US Founding Fathers knew in then and still applies today. However, the US is not exactly doing great right now and is most likely on verge of collapse due to out of control Federal Gov who no longer represent the people and two-tier/corrupted justice system. I was thinking of reclaiming my Swiss heritage (grandfather was Swiss) but they now have a voluntary digital ID and is home to the WEF AND WHO so I am not sure what direction they will take even though they are very much a Federalist nation.

The communists in Hanoi seem to have much more freedom. Australia and New Zealand are going down the same path. Last time I checked as a US citizen opening a bank account in Switzerland is impossible due to FATCA.
Years ago, I owned an account at UBS while conducting business in Switzerland, all perfectly legal. One day I received a letter from UBS any person residing in America, regardless of citizenship, even Swiss, would have their accounts closed. Why? Constant and never-ending intrusion and interference of the US government into the Swiss banking system. Thank you Obama!
If you're American living in Switzerland you can open accounts at any of the major banks. Prior to a few years ago it was only possible at Post or one of the cantonal banks, since the govt leaned on them to do it, lest the country be full of unbanked Americans. If you move out, or are non-US and move to the US, they'll close it. Happened to several friends of mine.

I am from New Zealand and unfortunately our housing market is completely fried after being open to everyone for decades. People are living in wooden shacks and cars and garages. Too many rich foreigners bought a lot of land. Even Shania Twain bought citizenship. Plus a huge amount of money funneled out of China into the NZ property market.
There are still ways around the foreign owner ban and as usual the government is completely unable to monitor what's actually going on so there's still a lot of foreign money going into property. It depends on your individual circumstances. This list AH uses is very much aimed at those who have “ above average incomes” and this can be altered by: do you work where you are moving to, is your work online, do you Rent or own a property, what Taxation will you be required to pay, will you have access to local services like Free transport if you are retired, free basic health care, …..etc.
It may be a good idea to pay a little Tax where you move to if you will get some of these freebies thrown in however, if you have an income as a retired person of about $1,000 per week then you may need to look at somewhere that is not wanting to Tax you every time you buy a cup of Coffee or that requires you to send in all your details each year.
It seems that Mexico is a great place for North Americans to retire as the weather is good, property and living costs are much cheaper than that available in SF or La ……..
I still think that as a retiree with an average income, you can do very well in Argentina as their Gov has “ messed up !” ( surprised anyone !) , they will perhaps be soon adopting the $US as their new currency ( the Yuan could have been a better choice if they join BRICS ) however, the mess that Nation is in now means that the Currency of Ghana or Egypt would be better than the A peso for reasons of inflation and the entire World does not want to sell goods to Argentina using their A peso as it loses value by the day.
As long as you have an income from outside that nation, you will be left alone as they do not want to put off foreign People who can easily move next door to Uruguay , Paraguay or Brazil ( Mercosur trade Bloc ) , as if you do have an Argentine Citizenship that is something you can do as they allow the Citizens of each State near free movement.
All the best to you & yours ……..Abe ( uk……fragmenting Kingdom )
A list placing Singapore as one of the top free countries has the same credibility as the list that puts Finland as one of the happiest. 😂😂😂
NZ was trying to force the inoculation as well as Singapore. That is not freedom at all.
Economic freedom, not freedom of speech/ expression/ movement/ religion/ etc. Regulation is the key metric for measuring economic freedom, so ironically China could rank higher in economic freedom compared to somewhere like the US, which keeps regulating everything to death.
Without the other freedoms then Economic Freedom is soon to be gone as well. Look at history. Despots were eager to divest their fellow wealthy. (The Inquisitions easily come to mind.) Australia shouldn't even be on that list. Try moving money around (even within the country) and you'll get a barrage of questions about what the money is for and how you got it. They say it's for 'our protection' but I certainly don't feel safer. Terrible place.
Personal freedoms are almost more important as economic freedom.
They have to be because money talks louder than law. It is a lesson of history. It is very easy to have authoritarian countries that give all the economic freedom you could want. That economic freedom in fact, is helpful to authoritarian countries. Why do you think the CCP picked up capitalism and ran with it. Are the Chinese now freer because they are capitalists then they were under Mao. If they are, and they probably are do a slight degree, then they still have to look over their heads at the sword of Damocles, hanging by a horse hair from the hand of Xi. So the answer is no freedom is a Spicket. I can be turned on and off it’s not really freedom.
Also, the country that is rising fastest in the world in almost all freedom indicators is Vietnam, although has still has a long way to go. Recently I was there and the locals were very positive, they told me how good everything is going on. Of course, they had some issues with the lockdowns but they are back on track now. By the way the rank of Ireland as the most free country after the recent laws they passed must be considered as a joke!

I agree with NZ law prohibitting non citizens from buying homes as long as that includes foreign corporations. Be even better if they outlawed any corporations from buying homes.
That's a weird definition of "free countries". Sweden? Switzerland? Ireland? Maybe 15 years ago.
Only real freedom we have in sweden is the freedom of being abused and milked by the progressive more insane government.
Ireland ? Are you for real ?? 🙄 let’s see when they jail Connor McGregor
Ireland? yeah right
No AIPAC so yeah. Really is the best being represented by the elected people and not some foreign lobby.
Thanks for getting to the point right at the beginning of the video !
Ireland and Singapore? Absolutely not. Freedom of Speech is the most important freedom and neither promotes that and in fact legislate against speech that the political class does not like.
Great video Andrew. A few weeks ago you published a video on moving to Mexico for more freedom. What exactly are the differences between economic freedom and personal freedom? Thank you.
He's often summarizing articles, it doesn't mean he thinks those are really the only four countries.
Economic freedom basically translates to "tax havens", places where you can pay little to no taxes on investment income or foreign income. Personal freedom is normal stuff like civil rights, due process rights, freedom of speech, religion, association, etc. The two are not necessarily directly correlated. Most western countries have high personal freedom, but less economic freedom because they usually have higher taxes, more regulations, etc. Countries with high economic freedom may actually be authoritarian, but market themselves as tax havens for the wealthy, prime example is Singapore, it's a massive tax haven for the rich, but is a strict authoritarian government as well.
I don’t know ANYONE who believes the UK is a flag waving free country.
If we are being real here no matter what corner of the world you go... we have to face whats coming
NZ free???? You gotta be kidding!! Their restrictions during CV19 were atrocious!!!!!!!! Ireland is about to burn to the ground. Leaves 2 countries ;-)
Avoiding tetonic plates would be ideal too.
So move to the Moon?
No need to overdo it.
Tokyo is too much, Tbilisi or Batumi is about right.
Always great content. Thank you 🙏
Calling New Zealand free as No 5 on this list shows me they have a very different definition of 'free' than I do
Economic freedom, not personal or overall freedom. Two very different things, the list is mostly for investors and entrepreneurs with lots of cash to invest. Is not for places where you should live as explained in the video.
Free to do as they told you
Switzerland will be the last one standing because of direct democracy
And in terms of living elsewhere, depending on where one is resident, they will need to declare their international investments. Like the uk requires. To even pay capital gains on land given to you from a relative, if one sells it whilst being a UK resident.
Yes, 'momentum' is very important!
The index ranks El Salvador 114th, with reasoning including "Bukele has also continued to implement the controversial adoption of Bitcoin as one of the country’s official currencies."
While El Salvador still has a long road ahead in terms of achieving economic freedom, the notion that its Bitcoin adoption hurts its ranking is pretty ridiculous. If every Salvadoran adopted Bitcoin today, El Salvador would be the most economically free country in history tomorrow.
Have you heard of M13, I've been to el Salvador never again.
But do you trust Bukele to not suddenly start extorting foreigners under the threat of prison? He certainly has no problem locking up poor people en masse without any due process.
@@budget_nomad You are kidding, right? when was the last time you googled El Salvador?
@@marilubarrera3582 probably never. What's "El Salvedor"? 😂
It tells everything you need to know about that index.
I've been watching this channel for a couple of years now, and each year, it becomes more apparent that you can live your life chasing "freedom" or just find freedom wherever you are. So as long as you can make money, have a roof over your head, and have the right to fight to make it better where you are, that may be the better route. Freedom often is a state of mind.
Correct 💯
Singapore? You mean the dictatorship? Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the city-state (my favourite place in the world, after living there for an extended period), but it is precisely its quasi-dictatorial government that makes it so appealing.
Take the list with a grain of salt, do your own research! what they value may not be the same as what yours
You need to balance freedoms other then financial if you wanna choose a good place to go. Anyone who thinks Ireland or New Zealand has any idea what freedom is has not been paying attention recently.
The list is about economic freedom. Ireland and NZ were a surprise for many of us who don't live there and didn't know the development over the years/decades.
@@leezap Hence why I said you need freedoms other then financial as well. A place that claims financial freedom but oppresses its people in nasty ways is not a safe place for your money or you.
I think, generally it is not a good idea to search for an exile in European Union which will be in future on the verge of insolvency and converting into a over regulated and fully controlled socialistic dictatorship. To invest in EU is not a good idea.
Ireland?? The Gardai are the modern day Stasi.
What’s going on there?
2 words: Prison country. @@MuzixMaker
Does the list take into account of the respect of contract law . That is very important, to be abld to go into a court be you a citizen or not and sue for pain and suffering and honoring contract agreements. Please answer Andrew
This ranking ain't for shit! So-called Economic Freedom means NOTHING without political freedom. That is, unless you have literal F-U money, which most of us don't.
Argentina looks awesome! ~ (only been to Chile in SA) love the clear wisdom of your dad, go to where they appreciate you!
Thanks!
Ireland is far from free right now
What happened? I can't find
Taking a look at the HF page now - New Zeland 5, Australia 13, Canada 16, waaay over countries that provided relative personal freedom over past 3 years. That makes me think this index makes little to no sense if one considers "freedom" per se
Was thinking the exact same. "Freedom of movement" should be a top criteria in any "Freedom" ranking
He's talking about economic freedom.
@@Ggdivhjkjl Thanks, I just checked how the index is calculated. Basically what it really quantifies is "Where is the best place to have a business". The word "freedom" is really misused there. I am surprised that China scores so low. How is it possible that they have massive growth if it is so "economically hard" there?
@@TheEmperor000 Its just a lot of red tape. It actually used to be pretty easy to open business in China, but not so much anymore. They were economically very libertarian, but that is long gone.
Great video and the list is a good filter where to move you business when you leave the us.
Thsnks😊
If you’re watching this from Gary, Indiana. You have my condolences!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
It would be interesting to see what happens as some of the migrants in Chicago that walked through the border end up in Gary, IN.
Switzerland is the only free country mentioned on top of the list. But it's also super expensive.
Switzerland is hosting all the evil-driven elitists working real hard to kill most of us and control the lives of who is left alive: WEF, WHO, BIG PHARMA, UN, and the demons list sadly goes on. It is definitely not a good place, though for some people, it seems "When you cannot beat them, join them".
Fascinating!!!!
Do you have trends on countries who mandate the Jab or allow citizens to decide
We should probably make efforts to increase economic freedoms in our own countries.
THIS! Everyone wants to run away. I keep thinking of Tolkien's fictional world where evil kept encroaching until all the Elves had left was one 'safe' city surrounded by tall mountains and only one 'secret passage' out.. and then that city was taken from within. Allowing the enemy more and more ground is not a wise move.
Most European countries sold out to the WEF and WHO... alongside most countries worldwide. I'm not sure what you mean by free when digital enforcement and over-regulation are now global.
@johnhammink2716 I believe that the new currency is our gifts. The only way out of this mess is by creating communities and supporting one another.
They cannot tax or control what we barter.
Question: I am living in US , I want to open and international account to transfer my money from US , any idea what options are available ?
youre really awesome man
Those countries aren't free. You can be arrested for politically incorrect speech in all of them. I'm sorry, but you are absolutely not a free country if you don't have freedom of speech.
Are you and flying that freedom of speech is more important than low tax rates for corporations?
I’ll give you one chance to fess up right now heretic!🧌
The channel has clearly explained that it deals with economic freedom. There are many other channels that discuss political freedom. Ive met too many people in my own "free speech" country who speak just like everybody else
@@SeanEustace-zk3mcyes, i would say that freedom of speech is more importante
@@drshanebaker Freedom of speech (expression) and mind (thought) are as equally important as economic freedom.
So the censorship by the largest tech companies in the United States is freedom of speech?
I love this channel!
Same 😊 💯
Thank you! 😊
Upon hearing the safe deposit box thing, I'm starting to think he listens to Lehto's Law and the many civil asset forfeiture episodes.
I look at it like it's a puzzle regarding over all quality life. I definitely value freedom and that definitely an important piece of the puzzle. But also other things such as quality of life in other regards too such as a clean environment, friendly happy people, do also the people including the non business/rich - the regular working class people have a relatively good quality of life too.
You should consider how governments treated their citizens during COVID, what good is economic freedom when you live in a gilded cage under tyranny!
The only problem with this ranking is that is not weighted - it means that government spending and taxes are only a small part of overall score while they should be the most important metrics. If this ranking was weighted properly, then for example Malaysia would be much higher, Luxemburg lower and Taiwan would be above Switzerland.
You wouldn't be able to properly place Switzerland then as taxation is all over the place on as it's decided by the cantons for the most significant part. There's 26 of those and they are all over the place.
Thank you for your information!
Woke movement
I was wondering what's your opinion on Aruba as investment and what kind of lifestyle its offer
Wow best video since long.
IRELAND????????? ARE YOU SERIOUS???????????
I can't sell bubble gum in the world's most free economy?
Look the stupidity that got your attention. Perhaps some places doesn’t want you be slums and prefer to preserve it as best they think they can.
Hello, what is your research based on?
where do i find this ranking ?
How anyone could think that the UK is number 1 ? Me and my wife are both disabled wheelchair-bound. We live in East London Newham.
We don't have any medical or social care or even a half incontinence pant.
But we get letters in nudging us to take Covid vaccines.
In what they are going to help to us?
I live in NZ and your absolutely right... And the marginal changes you talk about had a massive impact on businesses here... But good news the far left coalition of Labour/Greens/Radical Maori Party was just overthrown in a landslide to a very right libertarian leaning coalition ... Hopefully this will spring NZ back to number 1 very quickly
'You have my condolences first of all' 😆great video - thanks
Hi, Andrew, I'm a big fan, and I'm wondering if you could do a video places to live that are family-friendly, tax friendly, and safe. Thanks!
Singapore treat foreigners so well that the local detest our own gov, they exchange our freedom and happiness to make foriengers happy. Up to a point where local salary are depressed to less than 30K USD a year for engineers, but the housing prices are in 2-3 million USD for some studios apartment and a small japanese car cost 150K USD for 10 years usage. Not to mentioned most expensive gas cost, expensive leisure spot and etc.
I am Singaporean and this is why i am considering moving out of this goddamn forsaken place that controlled, mistreat and squeeze its own people. Oh btw we need serve 2+10 years of total military service. This is the treatment we get for protecting our country.
Im reading it and i picture you all as worker ants. Sorry for you. You need to leave this prison and live YOUR life amd not being a unit
So sorry to hear that . Sorry to say this is what most countries are now doing . American here , and immigrants are now living for free , while we suffer .

PS: If you could inspire your most affluent clients to create an all new nations with no EU membership, no WHO membership, no WEF membership and no NATO membership, then you would be a hero to those who value their freedom, Mark! Maybe create a new nation at sea with an artificial island to begin with. Floating communities of boats etc. The economy should be about connecting the dots for the best ways to keep things rolling...
Floating golf courses and Formula 1 circuits, please!! Plus wall-to-wall gorgeous babes, of course.😁
A small Island in the Mediterranean would be great for that.
There was an Ann ryand Foundation that promised just that in late 90s I believe. They said they would lease some land from a third word country and create a new Hong Kong. did not amount ot anything obviously..
@@codechartreuse "nation" is just a word, don't get your panties in a knot, you could exchange it for the word "community" or "group". There's a difference between a group of people that choose to be together vs a group of people that is forced by an arbitrary line.
@@codechartreuse You sound like a slow thinking globalist. Do you not see how extremely everything is rigged, and that we in reality have zero independent nations? Its mind blowing that anyone can only look at one factor when it comes to freedom.
Some people exist solely for money.
