How to make a matchbox from birch bark.

  • In this video I show you how to make a matchbox out of birch bark. The matchbox is entirely made out of natural materials found in the forest.
    Material and items used in the video:
    - Birch bark.
    - Birch wood.
    - Knife (EKA).
    - Wood glue.
    - Drill.
    - Ruler.
    - Pen.
    - String.
    - Wood wedges.

      one suggestion, if you want to make this or use it in the wild i strongly recommend to tie a lanyard from the cap to the box itself. the cap could become lost very easily but it contains the most critical part of the box - the matches won't start easily without the striker surface. don't lose that :)

    Of course my friend.
    - Height: 56 mm.
    - Width: 22 mm.
    - Inner depth: 42 mm.
    - Birch bark thickness: 1 mm.
    Remember to take a nice piece of birch bark, preferably from a younger birch, with no knots or other roughness.

    Thanks, it is water resistant, but when would you need to have the match box under water? So it needs to be water proof.

    Birchbark looks like a very versatile and pliable material. Unfortunately we don't have any along the gulf coast (U.S.). Still, very informative to watch you skillfully construct this item. I'll share this and watch more of your vids ;)

    It is water resistant, but you can add some spruce resin to make it waterpoof.
