A wonderful voice. I can do a pretty good impression of dear old Robbie. I amuse myself by doing his " lovely lovely biscuits" routine.

Ah, the wonderful Fyfe Robertson. A great example of good old storytelling and a mesmering form of TV journalism, on a par with Alan Whicker. Charming, urbane, and infinitely watchable, whatever they're talking about.

There was a time, if Fyfe Robertson wasn't 'standing there' with his microphone, it didn't really exist : )

Fascinating piece. Fyfe Robinson was a fixture on BBC Panorama in the early sixties. Mind you his script "Surprisingly, Irish discipline was perfect" seems to show that there was still a patronising attitude to Ireland back in the sixties.

Not Panorama. It was the 'Tonight' programme hosted by Cliff Michelmore that Robertson reported for.

Are you saying Irish people in general are well known for their discipline?

Pocket billiards had yet to gain general acceptance in '63.
