Oregon's Pacific coastline stretches for 363 magnificent miles/584 kilometers - and this world-class route traces it from border to border. U.S. Route 101, is a major north-south U.S. Highway in Oregon that runs through the state along the western Oregon coastline near the Pacific Ocean. It runs from the California border, south of Brookings, to the Washington state line on the Columbia River, between Astoria, Oregon, and Megler, Washington.
The northern half of the Oregon coastline along Highway 101 is marked by majestic temperate rainforests, a rugged, rocky coastline, and resort towns that cater to urban dwellers from Portland. Further south, the coast becomes gentler, with cliffs giving way to sandy beaches and farmland. Along the way, sea-stack rock formations, pounding surf, and picturesque lighthouses make for genuinely fantastic scenery; in fact, the Oregon coast is one of the most photographed regions in the nation.
