With western economic principals people expect profits to always go up. Economies contract and expand it is like a living organisms
I always wonder why a people located on the Western part of Africa so obsessed with a country on the southern tip of Africa which is located 6400 Km by land and separated by no less than 8 countries. Nigeria and South Africa have nothing in common except that they are both habited mainly by Africans, so why is Nigeria and Nigerians are forcing a non-existent rivalry with South Africa because we simply don't care; all we care about is to do better tomorrow than we did yesterday and today. Nigerians will grow weary trying to compare themselves to South Africa because as it stands, Nigeria is its own worst enemy. For progress of any kind, Nigeria must look within and introspect to find faults and correct these without trying to benchmark with a people who don't even care about what happens in Nigeria.

Portugal is a tinny european country 10 milions inhabitants, GDP= USD240 billions, no gas, no oil. We as africans need to dream big, a USD60 billions GDP is still small money not worthy any celebration.

Portugal is older than most African countries. Plus it was a colonial power but I am still surprised it has such a small GDP compared to all the advantages it has had for hundreds of years .

Let's be honest to ourselves. Neither Nigeria, South Africa or Egypt got anything to be proud about. The three countries put together together have over 350 million people. Australia with just 25 million people has a bigger economy than Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt put together. Israel with just 7 million people and a tiny piece of land with no mineral resources has a bigger economy than any of these countries. Instead of arguing about who is bigger or smaller let's start building our economies. As for Nigeria they can start by giving electricity to the 100 million of their people that don't have electricity.
