    This is like a Bob Ross painting, but with drums; making genius seemingly easy. 👌🏼

    Man, it's not often that a rack tom takes the cake over a floor tom in a mix, but that rack tom sound is incredible.

    Awesome I just found you on IG.. and wondered how you got your toms to sound so fat and warm.. Curious which preamp you use as well.. Thanks dude.

    Amazing sounding toms! What intervals do you have between the batter and reso head?

    • @kylewmay
      @kylewmay  Před 2 lety +2

      great questions! I do not know. Typically, my reso head is tighter than the batter head. Sorry I don't have an exact answer!

    Great. You made your drums sound like those rappers and hip-hop singers voices singing through layers and layers and layers and layers and layers of effects. Thumbs up!.

    Great video, great sounds! Just noticed the eq and stereo spread in Ozone before the limiter. Are they doing anything?

    • @kylewmay
      @kylewmay  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks so much! Those actually don't have anything going on. sometimes I'll do just a small tweak in that eq (very small moves) if there's a build up I didn't catch, but I really just like the limiter in the ozone. I think it's a great sound with enough manipulation without making it pumpy!

      @@kylewmay makes sense! Just experimented a bit with IMpusher, but it makes my drums sound too artificial. And if I only put it on some tracks it causes some phase issues. Do you always use it with default settings? I think I saw you changes the root frequency in your Big Fat Snare video. And what are you experience with using it on individual tracks vs using it on drum bus?

    • @kylewmay
      @kylewmay  Před 2 lety +1

      @@DaPhunk73 I bet it would make more sense on the drum bus. If you dive into the mechanics of it, it really fucks with the phase so I completely understand the artificial sounds. I haven't used it on the drum bus yet, but as of now, I pretty much keep it exclusively on the snare bus. depending on the sound, I might mess with the fundamental frequency a bit, but yes, I just keep everything at zero otherwise I feel it adds too much character for me!

      @@kylewmay Thanks for answering again. Makes sense. Asked because you used it on both kick and toms in your other videos. I've tried it on toms as well, which sounded great, the kick was more problematic.

    I've been watching drum tuning videos all day and all of them disagree violently on everything

    • @kylewmay
      @kylewmay  Před rokem +1

      Ha! I know. Every drum is different, every person is different, and I’ve accepted the fact that there’s no one (or right) way to do anything. Ive just found what i like and what works for me. My hope is that whatever videos you watch, you’re able to try something new and find what works for you and your sound.

    Those are the lowest pitched toms I have ever heard, especially the 12”. 😱😱😭
