you call being locked up in a small principality an escape? she had hollywood at her feet, and she chose the worst kind of men. Something was wrong with her.
I find this documentary to be very relaxing, the narrators voice jas that perfect tone and low rumble and also sounds like it fits in that era. I also love the black and white snapshots and the washed out faded color tones are equally soothing
It was the same with Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio. He wanted her to instantly transform into a housewife when they married, and considered her success and beauty a threat.
' THE RAZORS EDGE ' IS A MASTERPIECE FROM A MASTERPIECE , AND SHE PLAYED THE PART PERFECTLY IN EVERY WAY , SHE WAS A TALENT AND VISUALLY BREATH-TAKING ! !
Gene Tierney one of the most beautiful of Hollywood stars however, when you learn of her troubled private life you truly hope she was able to find some happiness and contentment.
Isn't it just hateful how Oleg accuses Gene of being "jealous" while he freely admits to having affairs, which are of course also her fault, because she was just too successful and his fragile orchid ego just couldn't take it?! Men back then were such entitled pricks and haven't grown as much since as they ought to have...
@@paillette2010 I feel that Joan Crawford deserved it. She had battled long, and her turn in Mildred Pierce was worthy. With that said, I'd say Gene should've at least been nominated for Laura. How did they screw that up? Also, she should've won it for The Razor's Edge. Great actress, anyway. Brave woman.

I just can not imagine just basically throwing my child away. I can't even wrap my head around that. Guilt can make a person crazy.
I LOVE how it is "her fault{", like he is supposed to be viewed as 'Mr. Gene Tierney'.. He was a star in his chosen field.... and like attracts like, SOOOoooooo..... what, exactly IS he complaining about that would be an adequate excuse for his wandering eye.?

I think the main cause of all the trouble was sending the baby off to be looked after by others. I'm sure they visited etc but if the system had not brainwashed them and made it seem better to send the baby away, and they just got therapists and such to their house to help, I think she would never have got her 'crazy' spells.
+AfridiZindabad That was typical of the time. Parents were convinced that children with disabilities would be better off in an institution. These places were passed off as better than they really were.
David S. really? i am sure every parent who had to make that decision endured a lot of trauma. they either ended up like Gene's husband (i think he started philandering and being callous, and cold towards her-- because he had to 'shut off' his emotions in order to deal with it), or Gene (breakdown).
it's probably the most terrible thing imaginable. i have a special needs kid and if i left him even for a day with someone i would start feeling crazy and depressed.
@10:10, the dress Marilyn Monroe borrowed from the studio to wear to an awards show. (Marilyn never had any fancy clothes.) This would have been around 1951-1952. I believe it was a press award that Marilyn received. Anyhow, that is the dress Marilyn wore and altered in her own way for maximum effect.

Oleg Cassini blew with her. She seemed like a very beautiful woman all around, but who's to say what really went on. Three of my favorites: "Laura", "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" and "Never Let me Go" with Clark Gable.
dont get me wrong guys but i am just saying..She had abit pro white sentiment .In fact she never fought against the segregation of african americans in theatres and other places ..People like frank sinatra and various other actors protested against the unjust treatment of african americans ..
+Carol Napolitano, it's what people were told to do then. Almost everyone who had a child with developmental disabilities was advised to institutionalize their child. Hard to imagine now.

This was during the studio era. I've never heard of Gene being racist. In fact, she went out of her way to talk to and cheer up a black woman who saw Gene in "Leave Her To Heaven" (1945) and thought that she wasn't acting. The lady responded after talking to Gene, "Oh ma'am, you sure were mean in that picture, but now that I've talked to you, you are real nice".
It was Hollywood in the segregated America of the 1940s and 1950s. Her having no black co stars had nothing to do with her being racist or not, it had everything to do with the studio system being racially segregated and America being racially segregated. As far as Sinatra and others who protested the segregated studio system, that was 20 years later during the civil rights movement when protesting such things became possible

Why would Oleg cheat on the most beautiful woman in the world? What the hell is wrong with people?
Adrian Collins cheating has nothing to do with the beauty of the woman being cheated on. If only it was that simple.
A lot of men would cheat on a very beautiful woman on purpose. To prove a point.
