- Somewhere in the polders of the Netherlands, a new crack climbing machine has been devised: the Crack Generator 3000. The machine allows to create all crack sizes (that's where the name comes from) between small fingers to full-on chimney. The machine is created by Gerke Hoekstra and lives at Rock Steady in Bussum, the Netherlands.

Cool design! If you want to get real clever, figure out a way to tilt it to simulate overhangs too.
i hate climbing and such things but i hear fat freddy's drop and therefore love the video
This is great!! Now if you divide the two blocks into three or for parts, with a pin system to secure them on the wall, you could make the crack getting wider and narrower, to simulate nature even more. :-)
Edit: or make it go diagonally.

I'm going to try to start building this. However, I have one question.
I think the crack will widen due to the force pushing on both sides of the crack when do off-width, and your device doesn't seem to have a clutch or stopper to withstand opposite force. How did you solve this problem?
This is basically just done by the "threaded rod" and the frcition of the boxes on the sliders. It never moved any more than intended. This didn't seem to be a problem - but I guess you could "fix the handle in place" (when rotating) if you are afraid of this. Good luck!

Please please please share the design! This is the best looking crack trainer I’ve seen. Everything I’ve done so far is ok for hands and fists but having to put stuff on the inside of the crack makes it unusable for offwidth. From what I can tell you made two boxes with plywood sheets...how did you take the flex out of them?

I've been planning to create a crack trainer in my backyard, but haven't settled on the design. Any chance you could provide some information about your build plans? It would be much appreciated!! Great job.
I think the lack of response means 'no'
This one is made with a couple of realy long threads and some salvaged bike chains and gears. You crank the peddle and there is a 6 meter long chain wich makes all the threads rotate at the same speed.
@@baardnaap do you know how they suspended the boxes so that the threads can move it laterally?
@@dwindi0406 If you pause the video at 1:22, you can see multiple tracks on de left wall. The right one is stationairy. The wall is quite stiff to move. They could be waxed :P or made out of something with a teflon coating or something.

Yep, really awesome. One can practise every crack technique at perfect width for ones own body - thats the way to learn the basics. Then combine or go to uncomfortable in-between widths.
Would love to see more on your progress, and actual outdoor footage. You guys look strooong.
