    Great video. I wanted to see how much was involved in changing the nut. I want to adapt a 4 string bass guitar for B.E.A.D. strings. I will definitely take it to my favorite luthier.

    Helpful video. I plan to replace the nut on both my Squire fretless and a Sting Ray. I'm going with adjustable bell brass nuts. The removal looks like the hardest part. I'll do this at my dad's cabinet shop. He has more tools than I do...lol

    If I have a nut that won't come out, I use a narrow saw, and cut it in the middle, then you can implode it.

    I used Elmers kid glue for a Tusq nut once......I cant believe how well it actually held.

      Let’s all remember - Elmer’s glue is ONLY for eating ! (My Mom used to always include a tube in my lunchbox. Stays fresher.)

    04:00 I'm guessing someone previously has glued that nut in with a lot of super glue and it has corroded the plastic nut over time....

    While I fully agree that if the fit is really good, theres no need for glue, my stupid obsessive brain just can't allow me to put one in without just the tiniest dot of regular Elmer's white glue on the bottom of the nut. I just can't do it.

      @@josevilla6279 No, you shouldn't, not on a nut. It needs to be very easily removable without damaging the surrounding wood. And I'm not talking about the non-toxic school glue, I'm talking about Elmer's original white glue, they aren't the same.

    Dave ; is a little bit of heat a bad idea when removing a nut.The couple I've done so far have come out easy. But I know I won't always get that lucky.

    Dave, could you use an iron to steam the nut to loosen it up, if there is too much glue? I have to replace a nut on a new Sterling RAYSS4 bass. I am planning to replace it with a brass nut. Can brass be glued in place? What type of glue?

      Been there, done that!!! Loved it on my 1978 P bass fretless. Harmonics came out after doing so. Intonation became more spot-on. Do your thing Darryl6636

    Interesting comment about taking your bass to a bigger dick (Luther) who "should" know what he is doing. This particular Luther cut my brass nut down to .017" clearance at the first fret. Now I have to replace the nut and find someone who ISN'T a dick!
