    It's worth pointing out that this all relies heavily on detailed 3D models with alot of greeblies. In this case the model itself is a very detailed recreation of an ILM model.
    But with that being said, this video have some nice tricks for such models. I didn't see the random per island node being used. It can help for some variety.

      @TheAbsolutecad Před rokem +1

      @@ChristopherFraserVFX it's generally ok.
      The speed of delivery is fine.
      The main 'choppy' issues are cutting to something else too soon after you finish showing something and another was cutting to something new but seemingly a couple of seconds into that section so it almost seems like a glitch that caused a couple of seconds to be missed out
      Pretty easy fixes for those don't cut so aggressively / leave a little space before and after.
      Nonetheless, thank you for excellent content

    your color space is set to utility+srgb+texture and plus you have one alpha set to straight...why you didn't tell about that?

    • @ChristopherFraserVFX
      @ChristopherFraserVFX  Před rokem

      That's just the same as the default color space when you're using filmic Blender. Since I use ACES, (which I'll talk about in a future video,) the names are just different..
      I didn't actually realize the alpha on one of them was different, probably a mistake. It doesn't affect the final texturing bc we're not using alpha channels so it's okay.

  • @SteveErnst117
    @SteveErnst117 Před rokem

    Thanks for the texture tips!
    I'm having trouble rendering out animations as multilayer exr files with aces (which I see you're using). When it goes to write the frame and move on to the next, it crashes every time. Any ideas?

  • @YIIMM
    @YIIMM Před rokem

    Quick question regarding AO for dirt: does the model have to be one object if you untick the "affect local" box, and what needs to be done to the modifiers if so?

    • @ChristopherFraserVFX
      @ChristopherFraserVFX  Před rokem

      Yes, it does. I didn't cover that here, but that can be essential in some scenes so the dirt isn't affected by nearby objects.
      Not sure what you mean by the last part. If you mean object modifiers, you shouldn't have to update anything.
      Maybe try booleaning objects together if you wanna be real fancy and keep it all one object without joining them?

    • @YIIMM
      @YIIMM Před rokem

      @@ChristopherFraserVFX Thanks for the reply!
      I meant along the lines of something like "What if I end up having to join an object with a bevel modifier to one that doesn't?"

    • @ChristopherFraserVFX
      @ChristopherFraserVFX  Před rokem +1

      Oh, then depending on the order you join the modifier will either be applied to both objects or it will disappear. This kind of texturing process is kind of like texturing in another program, it will always be best with a fully completed model, but it'll still look good if you use it part-way through the process

    • @icedriver2207
      @icedriver2207 Před rokem +2

      @@YIIMM You could make a separate object. Boolean all the parts of the vehicle in to this object. When you boolean objects in this way it applies the bevel modifier before it booleans the object in. So objects that have a bevel modifier will get beveled and objects that don't have one won't get one. You can then set materials up on the original objects and when you boolean them they will keep their original materials.
