  • In this video, we're knocking the back of our house out and showing you the best ways to put it back together again. I'm going to introduce you to my new labourer and also show the best practices for preparing walls for plastering.
    The company we used for Building Control was The Hastings Building Inspectors. We've always used them and the difference using independent building inspectors compared to Council is phenomenal. If you're in the East Sussex area then these guys are a must. The links below if you want to get in touch:

    I’ve had nothing but issues plastering over tacky pva or sbr. Dry though, works wonderful. Especially for beginners, I’d always recommend letting it dry completely, considering it re emulsified there’s no actual need to go over it tacky

      @jonesconrad1 Před 7 měsíci

      SBR doesn't re emulsify, although I'd agree with the rest of your statement , I'm just impatient and don't wait long enough for the SBR to dry (or at least dry more) and wish I had. tbh its normally fine tho

      @@jonesconrad1I was meaning pva re emulsifies when the plaster touches it. always made me laugh when the old boys would say you have to go over tacky pva, which is impossible if you’re doing a big ceiling for example, as the pva would be dry before you got to the last section. I generally just prefer sbr, one coat, no messing about.

    I've seen a few of these, but haven't yet come across anything that talks about protecting property.
    I noticed in a few videos splatter all over the floors especially. It's very costly and time-consuming to clear up after. Also, the dust created cleaning up dried plaster inevitably ends up everywhere, requiring thorough cleaning/prep before painting & flooring can be done.
    Shouldn't there be some consideration for this before the tools are brought out? Tarps, drop clothes, old cardboard boxes... anything like this would suffice.
    Rule #1... cover any surfaces that are not due to be plastered, e.g. floors, windows, etc.

    Wish i had such a nice and easy structure to work with. My house has meter thick walls of stone and brick built 500 or 600 yr ago. Not one bit straight

    So you pva before you skim but not before u put bonding over a pained ceiling ? do u pva before you dot and dab a painted wall? Does Any painted surface not need sealing before Any plaster is applied ?

    Great videos, I am just working through your back catalogue. I have just ordered some fibreglass render mesh because I have just removed a partition and have a chase to fill. You talked about not having to scape back the ceiling chase but assume you needed to scrape back the wall chase? Do you have a video of you scraping back the plaster? Keep up the great work!
