- This vintage now 40-year-old Honda Accord only has 37,140 original miles. My then 15-year old and I flew all the way to Dallas to the 2nd oldest Honda dealership in the country (1st one was in Santa Rosa California), that sold this car new to a local gentleman about to retire, who 31 years later (when his knee started bothering him that made the stick-shift clutch uncomfortable) took it back to that same Honda dealership and traded in for another new Honda sedan, that one an automatic for his compromised knee. We flew down with one-way tickets and bought this great little car and drove it about 1,000 miles back home to be its next good caretaker. This charming gleaming little auto got many smiles and some questions along our trouble-free journey home... some asked if it was a vintage BMW, some thought and old Benz, but all were charmed by it. This 1st-generation Honda Accord was a landmark model that helped transform Honda from a niche maker of quirky very small cars and in small numbers, to an impressive rapidly growing and quite independent maker of incredibly satisfying and impressive cars at any price. This is the one and only generation of the Accord that was more of a true old-school Japanese style, while the very next generation leaped to be a larger more modern contemporary mainstream style that also become more 'Americanized'... making this an especially special historic Accord generation as it marked this rapidly transformative time for the 'American Honda Motor Company' After many years of keeping this car garaged and cared for, we are listing in on the national BAT collector auction site to find a new owner to put it in their collection, a museum, or for a Honda dealership to permanently display it on their new-car Honda showroom floor in contrast to the greatly evolved modern-day new Accords as a special historic conversation piece.
I swear old sedans never cease to amaze me.
Excellent cars! I currently drive a 2005 CR-V with a 5 speed stick shift myself!
My dad had an '81 Accord LX Hatchback 5 speed that was green when i was just a kid. I used to pretend to drive it so much when i was ~10 years old. So many wonderful memories seeing this video. Thank you for sharing!
i’m going to look at an accord in this exact color, i’m glad to see that so many other people love these old cars
I'm about to pick up a 1980 Accord myself with the 5 speed, excited!
I thought that person in the passenger seat was a mannequin at first. LOL Love this 1st gen Accord!
What a beauty. Best colour scheme as well.
Thank you Soichiro Honda!
I Had one back in 1995 loved everything about that car. beautiful car sir very well kept
These old Honda's are great! And they seem to last forever! For the early 80's models, they were a high-quality car, for the money! They drove nice, and handled great too!! The only thing was, they were under-powered, with the CVCC 4-cylinder, maybe, 85- 90 HP!!! I had a 4-door just like this one, same color too! Mine was a 1981 model. It was a great car!
Replace the old Keihin carburetor with a Weber carburetor retrofit and they'll breathe much better which gives a noticeable horsepower boost. An added benefit is all the vacuum crap that a keihin requires with it's vacuum servos can all be deleted, greatly decluttering the engine bay.
I'm getting some serious nostalgia right now!
I had a 80 accord and dyno’d it once. It made peak 40.2hp to the ground. At the top of the curve it was making 12.7hp.
Just thought you might find it interesting.
That’s sae corrected on a dynojet
Thanks for the video I have a 1981 Honda Accord 3Dr hatchback silver with red interior
I love that car wish I had one
Nice car my dream classic cars
beautiful car
My first car was the green version of this. 1980 accord, 5 speed with the same little analog clock in the dash. It had over 100K miles in 1990 when I got it. Folks thought it was an old BMW at the time, just like you said.
Are you sure it's only 37k? That's incredibly low. The odometer rolls over at 99999 so it could be 137k or more.
Está impecable!!!! Hermoso! Tuve el mismo accord, mismo color y versión americana acá en Argentina. La suavidad al andar de ese auto es inigualable.... lo vendes?
Nice car..i have this car 1979 👍👍👍👍
