I was fortunate enough to have studied with Ronnie in early 81/82 @ GIT …. he was a tremendous influence and one of the most knowledgeable chord melody players ever … to say he could name them and then just play like them as an example is an absolute understatement 🎶 … a pure and amazing musician and educator as well as a warm, open and caring person … a cherished memory of an amazing time in LA … Martino, Mock, D’Orio, Eschete, Tedesco Robben Ford and Carl Schroeder and too many more to list here … Thanks for posting this 🎼

I've known him for about 25 years now. One of the TOP jazz guitarists. Totally underrated. He's written books, has been a studio musician. Beautiful tone, modern voicings intertwined with great lines. His chord-melody and improvised chording is a marvel. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💯

Probably one of the most under rated guitarists I have ever met along with Ted Green. One of the truly last great unknowns, Ron is an amazing musician and guitarists this world has ever seen. He has ears of an elephant with great musical sensitivity and ability to improvise complex chord melody which equals anyone from all times. I am glad to have spent a brief time studying with you many years ago. Though I have only picked up a fraction of Ron has taught, more importantly it has given me a much greater appreciation for jazz of this caliber.

My word, so reassuring to hear you play the tunes you used to play for us in class at GIT; and we'd all be "ok I be able to do that in a couple of years" or "what am I doing here" (more of the latter) You commentors, image spending an hour or two, five days a week with this guy, and he would attempt to show us how it was done. Such a great player; I still have the list of tunes you told us we all must learn and 41 years later, I'm still working on the list: 1979: thank you Ron for everything, you've been a great inspiration.

Ron, every time we saw you at Steamers, either with Dewey Erney or fronting your own duo/trio, my wife would sit there mesmerized by your fret work. She studied classical guitar as a kid, but eventually rebelled against her violinist father who demanded perfection. She's conflicted to this day, wondering if she made the wrong choice. All I know is, one night early in our relationship she spotted an acoustic guitar in my apartment and promptly started to play Malanguena. My jaw dropped.

Ron Escheté is the closest thing we have to Ed Bickert. I have loved Ron's playing for years, and got an autographed copy of his terrific Live at Coyote Studios Cd/DVD set. I so much appreciate this, because I have heard Ron at Steamers during NAMM 2004. He was performing with Joey DeFrancesco, Ramon Banda and George Benson!

It used to be a common thing in Los Angeles to hear a great trio in all kinds of casual settings from hotel lounges to showcase rooms. Pretty rare anymore.

boy next door quote just around 4 mins - going from one chorus into the next....i think this guy is the most advanced jazz guitarist i've ever heard. i prefer wes of course - but he gives up very very little dirt and sweat for his enormous sophistication. isn't it depressing that someone can be this good - and this innovative - and be so little known? see his wonderful lesson on dominant chords on the tube.
