Introduction to the MLD Cricket - not a review! (forgive the stability and the amount of 'erms' đ)

- Following my introduction to trek pole tents with the Pretents Soloist, despite it being a superb shelter, I found two things.
Most of the time I used it as a tarp with no inner; and it was a little tight with space when I had my dog with me.
I have used it once and this led to some tweaks and mods, so just having a play with it in the nice weather now Spring has sprung.
Some footage of the tarp in use on Great Whernside is at the end back on 25/2/23 for the International Bivvy Day 2023.
I'd seen tarp used by Scott the Lone Explorer and Andrew Beavers, and seemed to tick all the boxes for a high quality, versatile shelter for the better months of weather .......
Spec:
Pro silnylon material plus stuff sack
255-365gm
5 panel pyramid design
12 re-enforced tie out point with line locks or bungees
Front beak
Includes....... 40 feet of premium guyline/cord, tube of Silnet seam sealer, 6" pole jack
I took this without the seams sealed, but you can pay a little extra for it to be done when manufactured.
This is my first proper video so be kind đ
Great video David, you gave a good overview of the Cricket. It was good to see its features in detail. It looks like a top piece of kit. I've also subbed to your channel and I'll be looking forward to watching your next video.
Thank you for your kind words đ. Been thinking about it for a while, this was just having a look around my editing app. Reckon I'll do my next trip
So how much was it all on with import costs?
You can get an inner I believe?
Ron at MLD usually sends them as 'material samples' so there are no import duties to pay. You can get an inner. I bought it to use as a tarp, normally with a bivvy bag. Since then I've used it much more and really like it, so midges became an issue. I use a 3F UL inner with it, but will buy the MLD one. Its the inner for the Solomid XL I believe.
so how are you liking the Cricket? i'm on the fence between the Cricket and Duomid. i also backpack with my dog.
I love it, that said due to the changeable conditions this year, I haven't use it as much as I'd like to, it's one I'll definitely keep and use with a bivvy though, can't beat waking up and just gazing out sipping coffee. Duomid's a bit bigger, the cricket is based on the solomid.
Is this the new Silpoly version?
Hi, no this was purchased last year, it didn't arrive until October, so didn't have a chance to use it over Winter properly
Looks a great shelter, Iâm toying with a Duomid & Solomid atm. Good video, cheers, Dave đ
@@milesfromanywhere. Hi Dave, it's very versatile, this Scottish trip I've just used it has just been prefect tbh it'll be my go to over the warmer months, if it's to be a bit cruddy I'll take the akto and then winter been using the TN Voyager just for space. I'll use the akto too if I'm not too confident of the forecast in Winter, a double pole it. Think I'm covered with those three, cheers for checking in n all mate đ
No worries about the video, even considering it's your first one - it's probably better than half of the videos out there related to outdoor gear. I'd rather see the honest man's opinion.
@@RickMunday true Rick, I try keep things pretty straight forward, even my other videos. Thanks for your comment đ
Good stuff dave đđ
Thank you for watching
