on mine, the film advancer only bends back halfway, and I was wondering if you needed a battery in it or you needed some film inside. Help?

Yes the cameras shutter is electronically controlled and must have a working battery.
But you don't have to have film in the camera.

Bought this camera at thrift store .. Is the camera supposed to be able to use shutter even without battery? I also have the problem I cannot use film advancer all the way. Thanks

Yes, you have to use a battery in order for it to work

How did you get the film speed thing to move. Mine only moves the exposure adjustment.

      Whats a film speed thing?

Oh you maybe mean the ring that changes the ISO/film speed?
You need to lift up the outer ring, keep it up and turn which will change the ISO.

Press the little silver button at the side of the dial. Lift the dial ring to change exposure compensation.
