    the special move "restriction" is actually an oversight since they were made with modern controls in mind. We know this because the CACs can't have hadouken and jinrai kick, both which happen naturally on Ken/Ryu. you similarly can't have hooligan combination and spiral arrow together, and Dhalsim-heavy CACs are just straight up missing half of their fireballs
    hopefully this fact gets outdated in a patch

      I don't think it's an oversight, they probably want modern and classic to have the same limitation of moves for the sake of Avatar Battle. It would have been fun if she at first kept nagging you constantly about how her sweetie is doing but over time mellows out and just engages with you normally, maybe even sharing her fears and worries about what's going on with him, or the troubles she has to deal with now that he's not there... they could've really sold the difficulty of his situation more through this.

    IMO World tour is missing one critical feature to really help the RPG elements:
    We need New Game +, where you can run the whole thing again with all your stats and juiced up enemies to match... and to actually give you enough content to level up all the masters and build up all your relationships. As it stands I've got... what... five out of EIGHTEEN masters maxed out, but I'm 100% tapped out for content after beating the two optional super bosses, and if I want to take another run at it I have to delete my save and start from scratch, which I don't want to do because I particularly like having all the cosmetics so I can cosplay as random Street Fighter characters who don't appear in the game like Sagat, Q, Rufus or G.

    I liked the story, because as a fighting game player I just wanted to go out and fight people, get stronger, and meet the cool guys. Finding Bosch was an excuse to go fight stronger and stronger people, and JP's mockery at the end was fitting because it questions whether we even cared about the story, or were just looking for a fight. SFVI has definitely raised a bar in terms of singleplayer content but I definitely agree with all the criticisms. From the gameplay perspective, it is extremely ambitious and the RPGfication of a fighting game is kinda genius but in terms of the writing, I can't say I expected anything else from SF than a pretty basic motivator to get you going while you get to hang out with the World Warriors. If you're there for an engaging story mode to grip your teeth into, BlazBlue is still undisputably the king in this regard.
    I do hope they patch in the option to assign multiple specials that share a motion though because it's kinda frustrating having to work around kits that were designed with a clear synergy in mind and without losing all the cool options. Deejay's stance is so tricky to combo out of when you only have one QCF and QCB to work with, for example.

  • @victorwonder
    @victorwonder Před rokem +3

    The board-breaking mini-game is a tutorial that teaches ranges, hitboxes and damage for moves, as well as when to use crouching, standing and jumping attacks. When the board holder gets hit by a move, the player gets penalized by them throwing the board at the player and if the player gets hit, waste a lot of time to finish the challenge. Then the player knows next time at what range they should be using said moves.
    Also, you probably should have mentioned the reward system of the fights. Things like "throw 3 times and you get this prize", "nullify projectiles this much and you get this loot", etc. The reward incentivizes the player to learn what needs to be done to get the loot and learn game mechanics in the process.
    Overall, I think it was good approach to make WT mode more of a tutorial dressed as an open world adventure. However, it's lack of story engagement to keep the player interested in the long term also hurts the concept of teaching new players. If players don't stick around long enough, they won't learn everything the WT mode has to offer.

      1. It’s unintentional, and is a result of the story mode being designed with modern controls in mind with the devs just not realizing they forgot to change how it worked if you switched to classic.
      2. It’s intentional and was done with avatar fights in mind to keep classic mode characters from just having way more moves.

  • @TrentonButtVO
    @TrentonButtVO Před rokem +5

    The biggest thing that disappointed me about World Tour (and SF6's story content as a whole) was setting up Ken to have really interesting things, like struggling with the idea of killing JP, being away from his family not because he's still on the run, but because he can't face them as he goes through this moral challenge, and a lot of other stuff that put him more in the forefront rather than being "the guy that is second best to Ryu," only to do NOTHING with it. Violent Ken, a Ken that has to struggle with his own form of the Satsui no Hado like Ryu did before, there was so much potential to be had with his set-up, but they didn't do anything with it, besides ONE mission where you check up on Mel.
    Really hope they expand the story beats, particularly for Ken. Not holding my breath for it, but I really want to see if they're willing to go down this dark Ken route, or if he too will find redemption like Ryu did in V.
    Edit: I think the thing that bothers me the most is that it feels like the story we have in the game is a prequel more than the prequel comics were. Mainly to do with the fact that the master characters do NOTHING, save for Luke and Juri. Why are Luke and Jamie rivals? What's going on with Kimberly's corporate espionage? Juri implies she used connections to force Chun-Li out of Interpol: how did that happen, and did Chun take it laying down? So many questions, and with the current format, none answered.

      110% true dude, Ken's story is another HUGE blow to not only WT but also Arcade mode, as they built it so much in the comics but in the game itself, not only there's barely any mention of it if at all, but even Ken's Arcade mode intro mentions that Ken's name was already cleared, off-screen, so we don't get to see how Ken managed to clear his name. And the fact that almost no other main roster character has any impact on the story either is another huge blow to it.

Even if that theory is true, the fact that we had to wait until the DLC just to get the answers for these questions, while SF6's story at launch wasn't satisfying at all, shows even further how not so far SF6 is as an initial package then how SFV was at launch.

    • @RoyArkon
      @RoyArkon Před rokem

      @@ballisticboo7808 Except that no, it's not. WT sucks donkey balls. The story is terrible and it's ending is by far the WORST ending for a fighting game story ever (and that actually says A LOT), also that almost no main roster chars except JP, Juri and Luke have on the story, the voice acting implementation sucks, the free-roaming is extremely limited as there are only 2 big maps to explore, the Drive Stall ability from the talent tree is non-sensical design-wise and it's only there to "compensate" for the overworld enemies keep chasing you, the RPG mechanics getting in the way of the fighting game mechanics, the difficulty isn't balanced properly, and even the day-night cycle is bad as it isn't organic and can only be changed manually.
      The fact that Ken's story isn't fully explored in the game as it is in the comic is only just one of MANY issues that WT has, as well as the Arcade mode in the game. Speaking of, a good chunk of the Arcade endings of other chars are not good either, ESPECIALLY Kimberly's ending which is essentially the exact same shitty ending in WT, as she just defeated JP and yet JP manages to escape and ruin Kimberly's whole confidence in herself just by talking even though she literally just beat him, just like JP does to the created char in WT's ending. And the only good endings are mostly the ones that are not related to JP at all, like Blanka, Luke and Ryu, but almost all of the high-stakes endings are just suck.
      And that's without mentioning the fact that the roster at launch is too small with only 18 chars, and Battle Hub also has issues like the classic Arcade games being on timed rotation, or the club system having room for only 100 members max, while Battle Hub is supposed to be the social hub for SF6. And of course, there's the Battle Pass, that one is self-explanatory.
      The only good thing about SF6 is just the quantity of content, but it doesn't have the quality, at least not in the story-related modes (Arcade and WT), as only the not-story modes (Extreme Battle, Team Battle, Single Fight and Combo Trials) are good enough, unlike NRS/WB games in which they have BOTH the quality AND quantity and they have them in BOTH the roster AND content, and the got for BOTH story-related modes AND the ones that are not, and they got it BOTH at launch AND post-launch. THAT is a game that is worth 60$ at launch, but not SF6.

    I do think that limiting moves you can equip undermines the goal of getting new players interested in going online.
    I imagine there are a few people that went online with no idea that their Cammy/Blanka/Dhalsim mash up character is not a thing outside of battle hub and that the characters they will play have an entire toolkit that they were never able to realize. Personal example, Manon style can't equip her special anti-air kick and spinning command grab at the same time. Problem being that OD anti-air into command grab is a huge part of getting the medal level up.

    The story of world tour was always doomed to not be a satisfying addition to the Street Fighter timeline. Would you really be satisfied if all the mainline roster was super involved in a story, only for the canon to be "And then some rando wearing a giant bao on his head showed up and killed M.Bison?" Obviously not. Create-a-character stories are kind of doomed from the start in that sense, since they kind of have to be the story of nobody. The final boss of World Tour mode should not have been JP. It should have been Bosch, because then at least it's more personal to your character.
    Ultimately I think the story of world tour really only exists to get you to partake of the game mode's namesake: An excuse for you to... you know... tour the world, meet the masters and see what they're up to during the plot of the real story. The problem is that World tour is kind of the only story we get outside of arcade endings, so we kind of have to treat it as the story of SF6... and the story of SF6 ends with "And then some rando wearing a giant bao beat up JP but it didn't matter anyway."
    I expect there will probably be more to this story included with DLC, but I do agree that this isn't very satisfying as an end to the story.
    (Side note though, they *almost* had the right idea. They introduced a relatively colorful cast of world-tour only dudes to beat up, characters like Bosch, Li Fen, Thrasher Damned and such... and IMO they should have doubled down on that. Don't worry so much about incorporating the masters into the story themselves and let your story be about a smaller scale thing. The game is practically a Final Fight wearing Street Fighter's clothes, let it tell it's own story where the connection to the world warriors is just your interactions with them. They should absolutely keep everything about the persona-style master dating sim, though. I agree that part was great.)

    Just a few comments on what you said. I wholehearted agree with the Bosch to JP fight being lackluster, especially for how overpowered Bosch is. In regard to fighting a master whenever you want, that can only be done when you level that master to the max level of 60 (at least from what I've seen). After the master reaches level 60 if you talk to them and they will offer to fight you. An interesting tidbit though is if you level any masters style to 20 (which is the max), you then unlock the ability to transfer any additional xp you get when using that style to another style of you choice. In terms of learning the game from World Tour the Alice character and her gang are the ones who will provide actual challenges where you must use a specific game mechanic or strategy to win and only by using that mechanic/strategy can you win. I would have liked if Capcom made it so you had to fight those characters to help advance the story because it would have allowed novice players to have to knowingly use specific mechanics/strategies, which would then emphasize/(re)enforce the value of them.
    The issue you pointed to about wanted to fight a specific character agains, is one that also applies to Alice and her gang and that hurts. Since they are the ones who force you to have to use game mechanics/strategies to win, it would have been nice to have the options to replay them. I do think the story was good and it would have been better if not for the interaction with Bosch being nonexistent, this makes it so we don't have as much invested into Bosch to truly have a comradery that would compel us to actual value Bosch as a friend thus propelling him to have enough value to go about the world to find clues about his whereabouts. This could have been done by way of a cutscenes that just showed you and him hanging out, sparring, etc and then Bosch remembering Nayshall, leaves because he realizes while he is having fun, there isn't where he needs to be. This could all take place just after the first meeting with Luke and then continue the story as is.
    One more thing to add is the shift from Day to Night and viceversa should have had the effect of restoring some of your health at least.
    I rambled on, when I said I just had a few comments lol. If you read this far I hope you enjoy SF6 for all it's worth (if you have it, if you don't - sorry). Thanks for taking the time to read all of this.

    I honestly don't really understand Japan's obsession in having silent mute created characters who contribute nothing to the story... Sure, they work just fine in MMOs, but in a single player mode, it just falls apart... The thing is, World Tour's story would have worked just fine... if it had Luke as the playable character, perhaps... Y'know, the guy advertised to be the "protagonist" of SF6... They didn't do him as dirty as they did Alex or Abel story-wise, but it's still not enough... Have the player start with Luke leaving Guile's tutelage, as seen in SF5, and then have Luke travel the world as in the game, explaining his absence in SF3, the game preceding SF6 timeline-wise, learning from other World Warriors and making rivalries with the newer characters like Jamie and Marisa, for example.
    Luke's Fighting Ground moveset is perfect for an escalating RPG skill system because his specials has so many layers to it. Maybe he can only do normal Flash Knuckles initially, then finally learn to hold down his Flash Knuckle for more impact after meeting Marisa, who also has a mechanic where you hold down her specials for more impact. Or only allow Luke to use his basic Sand Blast before acquiring his OD double Sand Blast after meeting Deejay, who can shoot out projectiles from each hand too. Luke in World Tour could've slowly build up his moveset from basic things to the full moveset he has in Fighting Ground once WT ends.
    The entire thing with Bosch and JP could still happen, and it'll already be infinitely more interesting because Luke has an actual personality and can respond verbally to the things happening around him. World Tour can then end with Luke's speech about the journey for strength not having a real ending, and show a cutscene of him becoming the CQC coach for Buckler, where we see him greeting an unseen person who wants to train under him, just like the SF6 opening cutscene we got. It's a full circle arc from him leaving Guile's tutelage in SF5 to accepting a student of his own in SF6.

      The issue with what you propose is Luke's already heavy involvement in the comic series that's a prequel to SF6. Though the solution to work in what you propose would be to just have World Tour's be a proper sequel of said comics with the appropriate characters filling in gaps for those that haven't read. But i guess devs really wanted it to be a "player's journey" type thing with the idea of chatting up your favorite SF2 character (cause it's always gotta be them, right?) Being a priority. Which by itself I'm cool with (except the SF2 class reunion) but i do wish they did the story follow up better.

    World tour is what i hope to be a very good start. I beat it the other day, took my time, but the biggest difference between our takes is honestly just that i dont think theyre done with world tour. Im thinking new characters will come with new story bits, or maybe each season will bring a massive expansion to world tour? Iunno how theyre gonna go about it but personally, either through the battlehub or wworld tour itself i think we should get actual side scrolling/beat em up content to play co-op with our friends.
    This gives reason to experiment and mix moves, but also more reason to stats and the like.
    I also feel like they should allow CaC's to be used in regular online matches, with obv restrictions or at least warnings to using exploitable stuff like what some players do in SC6. EG1; if you wanna go for gief, your height and limb sfructure needs to match his own
    Or eg2; your CaC will take on all the properties of said character, moves, hitboxes, ect. With an accessibility option that highlights hit\hurtboxes for anti-cheese purposes.
    Basically giive world tour co-op content and give us more reaasons to care about our CaC by allowing its usage beyond CaC only battles, with obv restrictions and counter-measures. 😅

    I have faith that in the next game capcom can really nail this concept. For the first time, I felt invested enough to play through the story mode until the end. (Which is more than I can say for street fighter 5) I adore the character creation, I like the move system and I do like some of the character building. As a non fan of rpgs though, I kind of dislike grinding levels for moves. Especially when I know certain combos with ken or jamie but I either physically can’t do it because the game will not let me, or I have to grind until a certain level. I feel like instead of just repetitive grinding while using your master’s style I think a good idea would be to instead of leveling it up like an xp bar, you would have to perform certain things with your masters style. Like perform an anti air with ken’s shoryuken, or get to level 4 drunk with jaime. I feel like not only would this help newer players understand the game, but when they go into online play they have a better understanding of their characters. The reward for doing this task would be the same, unlocking more moves, but it would be much faster and more fun then spamming air slash over and over just to finish the fight faster to unlock a character interaction that I will probably skip through just to learn the move faster.

  • @pennydox
    @pennydox Před rokem

    If you max out the master's style skill, you get the option to fight them at a much, much higher difficulty, and you can do it as many times as you want, after the fight counter refreshes (not sure exactly how long that is though). The incentive to switch off skills is that you get more exp bonus or get cosmetics or bonus items with other characters' styles--you can technically stay with some character's moves, but for some styles like Jamie, Manon, and Lily, having a different moveset might be a bit more beneficial. A lot of the veteran master's stories and interactions are based off lore from previous games, as well as the comics, not much is actual new information from the old masters, but just trying to introduce the lore to new users. The new masters though...yes they are quite fascinating. World Tour is to give new players a history lesson in street fighter lore, while giving veteran players a hit of nostalgia with crazy amounts of easter eggs. I was even surprised Roxy was in the game on one side mission!
    As a complete beginner, I felt like World Tour was the most extensive guide to pvp fighting that actually made sense for me, and I think I've gotten stronger since the day I walked into Luke's Gym. But for all the super competitive people, I mean there's a totally different game mode called 'Fighting Ground' that people forget. World Tour is definitely lacking in story, but I think like they left it open ended to allow for a lot more space for the DLC stuff--half of Metro City is blacked out on the map, so eventually we'll be able to experience the *other* half of the story we seem to be missing out on right now.

They needed to keep him around at least until you left Metro City, and _then_ he goes all "problematic." And I also wish they could figure out a better way to let you pick more than one move with the same motions but different buttons, like in classic mode it should just work, and in Modern mode then certain slots should take priority, so that you could have two different simple inputs, but only one of them would ever fire on normal inputs. I also think they should adjust Mordern controls a bit so that you can choose the button used by the special input button though (to get the different effects).

    its 100% for new fighting game players, its basically a training mode but in story. some enemies just zones, some just blocks, some parry.. etc some all of the above. after that go online. instead of the traditional go to the grid room and this moves for each character. i guess its more teaching a new player and story is secondary, the more masters you master the more you learn each characters. maybe WT will update if new characters arrives.

    I hope DLC adds to World Tour, given that there are no Masters in daytime Nayshall, no one for the China stage, and only two masters for Metro City and Nayshall at night, I think those spots will inevitably be filled. Given that A.K.I. is of the same clan as F.A.N.G. from what we can gather, I think it's safe to assume that she'll probably take the China stage. Besides it's not too far fetched that future DLC will get their own stages so that covers masters at least. But I wouldn't be surprised if we got a new area or even new parts to explore in Metro City and Nayshall.

    I do hope they'll consider a proper story expansion, it's true the story kind of feels rushed and lacking.

    Yua losing her brother is the only thing that made me give the slightest damn about Bosch’s death.
    First thing he did was try to kick me in the face and then we reluctantly hung out for ten minutes before he fucked off.
    And Capcom thinks I wanna spend the rest of the main story chasing after him? The guy who didn’t even see the point in getting along?

    I have a feeling World Tour Mode is going to be expanded on as they release new characters throughout the game's life cycle. Like, J.P. is set up to be the new Bison but his character feels so....unfinished. His story needs to be fleshed out way more. I feel like they will probably release expansions to World Tour later on to do just that. Maybe.

    Honestly hitting new players with the Scrubkiller(tm) strats in the SINGLE PLAYER MODE is hopefully going to make a difference for new players. It's a lot easier to be fighting Oops All Tatsus Ryu or SPD ONLY ZANGIEF or WHOEVER and grind out a single player boss fight than to try to adapt on the fly in a match that lasts a maximum of like 10 minutes. Hopeful that people will get more out of being Put In Situations by world tour mode than they would from just Reading about what characters can do online. Having it happen to you in game is always a more detailed explanation imho

  • @MagillanicaLouM

    You brought up a great point in your story rant. This is a mode that you'd get the most out of if you're someone with a genuine attachment to street fighter, a couple of the other connected Capcom franchises (and Breath of Fire for some reason lol) world, characters and lore. The issue is, most folks that play street fighter hardcore AREN'T into that, they're the grindy git gud online warriors. And we hyped up this mode so much for the casuals that aren't gonna be online but will be the majority that makes the game money, but the thing is, being casuals, they don't give a shit about the lore or universe either. They wouldn't know anything about Mad Gear, Shadloo's defeat, the revelation that Ryu isn't a wandering homeless bum and is actually extremely wealthy just leaving his finances to Ken to worry about lol. That's all great stuff for an in between like me who's been playing this series since childhood looking up trivia of my favorite characters (most of whom aren't in this game yet lol) and enjoys learning fighting games but isn't more than kinda decent online. But i feel the farther ends of the spectrum far outnumber and it'll leave World Tour in a weird spot in the future reputation wise. Still, can't say i hate the attempt, i can just see how players not like me will handwave it away

I know the DLC characters will be Masters with missions but I hope they add new scenes and interactions with characters. Have them show up at other locations, more poses for selfie stuff etc. More Bosses that I can Team up with Master on too.
    Surprised you didn't cover the Avatar Battles in Battle Hub which insentifies leveling because its like Dark Sould vs some of these other character creations. I have a bunch of matches on my channel and actually like it more than the actual game 😅

    Just so you know. (You probably figured this out by now) you can fight your master again after you master them to level 20. They will be at a round level 64 - 67. When you win they go on a cool down. So you can basically get good exp frome them.

    As of right now, I’m just before what I’m 90% sure is the ending tournament of the game. Problem is this Honda guy in there was insanely strong, so here I am grinding my rear off so when I go live again I can obliterate him and get it over with.
    Thing is, that difficulty thing isn’t what’s biting me the most about world tour. What’s really getting me is the limitations on the customizer. It isn’t what’s already there, that’s great and I’m loving it. The thing that’s biting me is how much it’s missing. In the story mode I’ve noticed a ton of moves and whole fighting styles just aren’t in the customizer. For example, Retsu’s lunge kick and Carlos Miyamoto’s sword slash thing, as well as the entire civilian fighting style (the one with wrenches). Just having these things, especially Carlos’s sword, in the customizer would be such a huge improvement. Oh right! I forgot that I can’t have several character slots in fighting ground to make a bunch of fun characters and switch between them at will like in soulcalibur. I’ve been playing the entire world tour mode with a Broly avatar, and I would love to make other characters, but there’s no way to quick switch to another character and moveset without having to rebuild all the gear and movesets from scratch again. There’s the body presets, and that’s it. They made an incredibly in depth customizer that we just can’t have a free build mode for and it is killing me inside.
    Personally I think World Tour is amazing on paper. What they have there is a freakin’ amazing start. I just hope they continue to update it as the seasons come out so we can get THE definitive world tour experience, and hopefully those changes carry to fighting ground as well.
