Amazing channel Marty ! I absolutely love the passion you put into every song you play !
I am starting out myself.
I have been teaching myself guitar for roughly 2 months now and I have only recently managed to sort of separate strumming and singing in my head. I am still getting things messed up though, a lot !.
This is the first song I really want to get good at. I got the strumming and chords down immediately, but singing along makes my brain go into overdrive, haha ! Any tips on how to coordinate better ?
How did you get such an amazing voice ? Training or just mother nature ? Any advice on how to improve vocals ?
You're an inspiration, buddy ! Really wish someday I will be able to sing and play with such passion and joy !
Peace out

Merci tout bon!.
You are very welcome!!
Hey Marty, I am a new subscriber and I really enjoy your music tutorials. I am learning a lot and will soon own several songs thanks to you. However, I am having trouble learning the slap/strum. Can you please slow it down a bit and walk us through the position of your right hand a palm including what strings you are hitting as you slap and strum. Many of the songs I want to learn have the slap/strum and I really want to get this down. Many thanks and please keep up the good work!
Steven Davls Hey Steven, I will keep your request in mind for possible future project but in the mean time, almost always the slap comes in a song the same time a snare drum comes in a song, so if you can recognize the snare drum, that is where you slap the strings. I slap/mute all the strings in a firm brushing motion to add the slap sound but I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the slap strum at first. I would suggest learning the tune really well and then adding the slap strum as it will be easier then. I am a drummer as well and found playing solo shows with guitar for the slap strum to be effective to add color to the song, but it is not mandatory in any tune either, hope this helps, good luck and take care
cool......super
Doris Faustenhammer Thank you!!
Really enjoy your talents Marty and thanks for sharing. I am in the process of learning to play the guitar but have been taught to learn with the "bluegrass strum" and having a hard time learning the traditional strum in which you are using. What is the best way for me to learn to play in rhythm with you? Thanks again!
Ward Campbell Hey Ward, That's great, I'm glad to hear you learning from my channel. I don't know that I can theorize the strum I use. I have always been a guy who just kind of strummed the way I felt through a song. I know it's a cliche but strum how you feel. I will say to use your wrist to go up and down rather than your whole arm, I find that tip to be very effective. Stick with it is the best advise I can give and as you get more comfortable you will find different strumming techniques on your own. Good luck and thanx for tuning in.
I got a few songs I’d like you to do I love your videos if you could I’d like to learn two dozen roses
Rodeo by Garth
Where corn don’t grow by Travis tritt
Marty I love Ya Brother, and am one of your biggest followers, Buuuuut… It’s illegal to play Brown Eyed Girl without the opening lick. Yup, I checked its illegal. Im working on it on my own. God Bless
Good
thanx
As always, Nice Job! What guitar? Gibson Songwriter?
Thanx, yup it's 2005 Gibson Songwriter deluxe. It has a custom LR Baggs Imix pick up in it that was installed by it's previous owner, Dave Gunning. He's a well known folk singer from Canada. I Love that guitar, it's my go to and never lets me down. Thanx for watching
Thanks for the lessons they very helpful
great tune didn't Neil Diamond have the song out about 1968
Danny Carroll No, it was Van Morrison who wrote it around the same time. Thanx for tunign in
+PartyMarty EasyGuitarTunes Marty, it was actually written by Mick Jaggar & Kieth Richards, but a hit for Van the man, great song, good cover.
Just noticed it's the exact same chord progression as "Dirty Old Town" - coincidence or ???
since when did Dara o'briain play guitar
What is the strumming pattern? I have been playing this song for years with dd u udu but you do something different, not just the "slap." Please let me know. Thanks!
That is my strumming pattern but I add a slap, like this - DD/slap U UD/slapU DD/slap U UD/slapU, there are no other differences that I know of. Hope this helps, thanx for tuning in
Thanks so much. For some reason, I cannot get the "slap." When I slap, I stop to slap, but you do it as part of the rhythm. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Yes, I saw your tutorial on the slap but I still cannot get it. When you slap, are you actually hitting the strings with the pick, OR are you just hitting the strings with your hand??? Again, if you have any suggestions, please let me know...
I couldn't get this right once either! It's easier than you think. When you slap the strings, do it with the palm of your hand on a down stroke while your pick is going through all the strings (they'll be muted because the palm will hit the strings at the same time). Do it however you like but make sure your pick ends up at the bottom of the strings so you can do an up uptroke immediately after. And continue the strum from the beginning again, also immediately. So du Du du Du du Du (down, up, DOWN (emphasis), up) the whole way through. It's like a train you just keep going. Don't overthink it, that's the key really. Hope this helps!
Thanks, Jacob...... the more I think, the harder I slap-strum. I have to just relax and practice.
Thanks so much and wish me luck.
Marty where you located
east Coast Canada, you?? hey, I am trying to reach 100k subscribers so tell your friends about me, it would be greatly appreciated, thanx for tuning in, good luck to you and take care
How is your strumming here, ? not the slap strum, but the strumming pattern
d duud d duud d duud on every chord change, hope this helps. Good luck
PartyMarty EasyGuitarTunes thanks, sort of what I've been doing, but I pick bass string first then strom normaly like you do. 👍
