    Lived in SoCal, so our journey from Northern Nevada we usually stop at Schat's Bakery in Bishop, and is a must. Bus loads visit this place. A relative also established a bakery in Carson City. The bread is to the the left, danishes and sweet's (and sugar free) to the right. We also stop at Lee Vining to eat at Nicely's when going to Yosemite via Tioga Pass, very scenic drive. A side note for people with extra time is to do June Lake Loop (158), for the waterfall (abt 6 mi from the south turnoff) and lakes.
    Thanks for the videos, especially the breakdown, to think about what to have in case of emergency and roadside service.

As for your truck, do you ever have issues with that weight or more the stability. People seem to be pushing me towards a dually but I don’t really want that for my daily and trips into town. Any thought? Thank you!

    • @Wildonthego
      @Wildonthego Před 6 lety +1

      We've commented on the dually issue in some of our other videos. As we recall, it's addressed a little in the following: bit.ly/2xvmLSD In short, we don't have a need for a dually and prefer to not have the added (ongoing) expense for something that we don't need (though others do need them). It will be the first week of April that we would be heading up 395 I noticed several of the RV parks in that area are just opening April 1st but you said in this video (I know it was 3 years ago) That you traveled up 395 in April Do you think the weather is a concern or do you think we can make it with our 26ft travel trailer in tow?

  • @SailorGolf
    @SailorGolf Před 5 lety +1

    What time of year did you do this 395 trip ? Were there any closures or chains required - snow still on the ground etc. ? What dates are usually acceptable to travel with no obstacles for rv's ? Thanks for the info. !!

    • @Wildonthego
      @Wildonthego Před 5 lety +1

      We did our 395 trip in April (2018). There no 395 closures for weather - only a short road closure due to a wildfire. There was no snow to be seen, other than on the mountains. Usually, late Spring and Summer are OK for travel. However, there have been snow storms during this time frame. Each year brings different possibilities. Be sure to check the current/anticipated conditions before taking the route. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @Wildonthego
      @Wildonthego Před 5 lety

      You might not be sure. But we're sure that we don't want to speculate. That's why we said it's something we have heard (4:39) [not experienced for ourselves]. It's up to everyone to check things out for themselves. This is stated in the context of potential camping possibilities. Not definitive statements for people to blindly follow. We, personally, check with the management of places that are widely reported to allow parking etc. You've raised a good issue (though most of our viewers are quite savvy and already know) that reminds everyone to always check and not go on hearsay or speculation. We sure hope you got something more than this from our video. Thanks for watching.

    how was the fuel situation on 395 between kramer jucntion and june lake

    • @Wildonthego
      @Wildonthego Před 6 lety +1

      The distance between the two is likely accomplished with a tank of fuel in most vehicles. However, there are refueling opportunities along the way (e.g. Johannesburg, Pearsonville, Lone Pine, Independence, Bishop, ...). Fuel was over $4 per gallon for diesel. Thanks for watching, liking, commenting, and subscribing. Happy travels.

    Do you ever get really nervous when going on a route you've never been on that has challenges ahead??

    • @Wildonthego
      @Wildonthego Před 6 lety +2

      Any of those nerves usually precede our research. Once we've looked into a route or area, we're normally at ease. However, it can be tense when encountering traffic in off-highway towns that we drive through. We do our best to research with various highway resources before taking a particular route (that is off the popularly-traveled routes). Thanks for watching, liking, and commenting on this one. :)

    The reason they park backwards in Bridgeport is because it is illegal to back up onto a highway.

    There is no such thing as California Highway 395. It is a US Route, So "US 395". The California portion goes into Nevada then back into California.

    • @Wildonthego
      @Wildonthego Před 6 lety +2

      Ah, we understand what you're getting at, but in many ways, it is a highway (as defined: road). We completely understand what you're referring to, but so many have moved beyond this issue. Several references including encyclopedias and California State documents refer to US Route 395 as a highway. Routes can be a highway or contain them - since a highway is a road. The California Dept of Transportation categorizes/lists CA US395 as a highway. That said, it's often more important to understand what people mean by their words than the words themselves - especially in a stew of semantics (certainly when there's nothing crucial at stake). We sure hope you got something out of our video that we shared. It was our intent to be of some help, rather than cause an issue with a definition. Thanks for watching. Happy travels. [For further reading, view the Wikipedia page ( bit.ly/2y4bexA )and do a search on the word "highway" on the page - to see how it's used interchangeably - but more importantly see the historical documents use of the term (which are listed in the reference section.]

      I enjoyed your video. Thank you. My point was though that it is a US route, not a state route like your title stated (with "California"). California does have state routes, like SR 1 near the ocean, but only in their jurisdiction. US routes go across multiple states, like US Route 1 on the east coast from Florida to Maine. There is a big distinction between Interstates, US routes, state routes, and even county roads in some states.

    • @Wildonthego
      @Wildonthego Před 6 lety +2

      You're welcome. Titles on CZcams are best served by content creators as a string of (content-related) keywords. We didn't put a semi-colon after the term California - as we didn't see a pressing need. Most people will search on "California Highway 395" over US 395 when looking for information specifically about 395 in California. Have a look at our thumbnail, which is not "read" by a search bot (YT ...). We completely understand what you're referring to, but we still don't have a problem calling the CA section, of the route, a CA highway. Thanks for your clarification and concern. :)
