    Japan should win this tournament. Very impressive side. After watching 90mins you wanna watch more.

      They won the last one, and that was only 2 years ago. They probably have a lot of the same players.

      no, because is u-17 , the players of the last tournament(u-17) is in the list of players to the u20 world cup. only one player of the tournament in costa rica is playing now in jordan :deyna castellanos, from venezuela

      well, there is one Japanese player as well, Fuka Nagano, the captain :D

    • @dylachern
      @dylachern Před 7 lety

      Yeah, we can say Deyna is the only big star from 2014 who still play this year. Others such as Garcia, Sugita...should be in U20 now. Fuka is the only one remain in this tournament from the 2014 champion team, but she wasn't the major players then. Also I think Venezuela's Veronica was also a starter in 2014? I remember the news about her grandpa.

    It's 2023 as I write and some of these girls are in the world cup. Ueki, the number 8 who just scored against Spain, Hasegawa too I think... and to think I remember some other spectacular players from youth teams who seemed even better like Sugita and Nariyama? (a striker n9 with incredible dribble) who are not there, maybe they were before I don't know.

    That's what happens when you win your first match by blowout. It showed in the second match against Ghana when the underestimated the African team. Japan is more tactical and disciplined and better coached than the US girls.

    this japanese side might be the best at the u-17 level that we've seen in a while..these japanese girls are just so good. absolutely destroying everyone. The US forwards just aren't skillfull enough for teams like japan, besides Ashley Sanchez who is an impressive player

    Damn it. First the senior team fails at the Olympics - with one of their star players being forced off the team in disgrace, her accomplishments and accolades forever forgotten in casual circles - and now this. Not a good year for the USWNT.
    But it happens.

    Just accents the issue that our future top women's team will face. All the clubs like these pretty central midfielders who lack the defensive edge. Goals 2 and 3 came from a lack of at least one of those midfielders backtracking and the defense being over run in numbers. We have fell in love with the pretty dribblers. Midfield is a gritty part of field built for balanced players in my opinion. Coaches are sticking a lot of these players on the back line, sacrificing them for the "Wow did you see those foot skills!" non defense playing turnover machines. Balanced players allow your pretty dribblers space because they make great passes, don't lose possession while attacking positively and get back on defense.

    The U-20s will be eliminated later this year as well. Hopefully this means an overhaul of the youth system, starting with finding new competent coaches.

      Being a Mallory Pugh convert I sincerely hope that Jill Ellis & Co. quickly get together a supporting cast that will allow Pugh to fulfill her potential. Every legend needed a great support act to reach fulfillment - Puskas, Pele, Cryuff, Maradona, Messi (for Barca), etc.
      The entire system is struggling in this change in style of play from physical long ball to technical possession. Given these setbacks at the youth level as growing pains let’s hope in the future there are players good enough to play that technical game that Ellis & Co. aspires for and the Nadeshikos play so fluidly.

      Please read my post below. The issue is in the midfield and the choices on personnel our coaches in the States are making. I watch it every week as they play these girls who have great foot skills, but can't maintain possession under pressure, can't play a decent through ball, don't know when and how to pass a forward or other mid open and NEVER TRACK BACK. The balanced players (and usually better athletes) are being sacrificed to the defensive line to protect the weak middle. It's disturbing and starting to show up at the highest levels.
