Scotty Kilmer I had a 2006 Highlander and only got 176000 miles. I had to get rid of it because the tranny started going out . I had soooo many problems like door regulators, timing belt, air conditioning control, brake calipers, etc. I’m on the fence about buying another.
Excellent !
What about the new Honda Pilots and Mazda CX-9?
You mean a 4runner***? I think you made a typo
Scotty Kilmer can you do the Honda Passport
Being a truck mechanic for 30 years,,I do lots private work on cars,,,When people ask me what is the best car in the world ,I tell them Toyota,,then they ask why,,I tell them I have never worked on one.
I thought you gonna say, because Scotty says so 🤪
lol
Lol
because Toyota doesn't make trucks?
Toyota does make trucks,Their called HINO,,,Very big sellers in Australia and Asia
Toyota should offer cash back for mentioning Scott Kilmer.
People who haven't owned a Toyota should talk to Toyota owners - they'll find out that Scotty's right on the money when he touts the benefits of (the vast majority of) Toyotas.
Lol
I think he needs a few more jars of moonshine,,he seems half pissed everytime I watch his Vids
william suleyman
True, but i think that’s just his unique mannerisms. He is consistently this entertaining and I’ve never heard him slur his words.
Right...
Absolutely love my Highlander. Best car I've ever owned. I've driven Ford, GM, Chrysler, Mazda and Honda and I am a Toyota driver for life since getting my Highlander. No looking back.
*Honda* after reading this comment: 😱😨🥺😭
Me too Was a Honda Fan & still am, but now I’m a Toyota Driver
My 2008 Highlander has 335K miles and the engine runs like new. The only "major" repairs so far has been the replacing the water pump twice and the control arms. I bought it for $30K new and paid it off in 2013. I figure it will last another 10-15 years.
I bought a 2007 highlander it has 320k miles and still running good. Still the same engine. Great trucks
Chick George i just bought one with 98k miles hopefully lasts a long time
Same year 2007
Does it have a timing chain or belts?? 🤔😅
4 cylinder or 6 cylinder?
How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking
Thinking about buying a Highlander and Scotty comes to the rescue reaffirming my choice. God bless.
LedosKell And so am I that’s My 1st choice to make my 2nd SUV..
LedosKell apple car play on 2020 model
@Old man Goat yep. 2006 sequoia 215k miles. Only thing I've had to replace is the air suspension for $1,100. Everything else was typical replacement intervals. Service guys always comment on how it's one of the most well kept cars they get in the shop.
@Old man Goat Love my 2010 4Runner.
Theres a 2020 redesign. Either wait for it or use this info as leverage to get a good deal
I live in Dubai....weather is harsh...massively hot and humid year round...Toyotas rule the land. I have seen Taxi Camrys going strong at 800000Km. Same engine, transmission and AC compressor. The reliability is absolutely insane and no other brand comes close.
Hondas Do
Ronen Zemach used to. Recent years though Toyotas lead is increasing.
@@GrimYak Agreed!
@@glennso47 ISIS love anything cheap and reliable
I also see alot of Toyota Camry's, Prius and Sienna as taxi's in NYC, terrible road conditions, severe traffic and weather and they run well over 500,000 miles with no major issues.
Me and the girlfriend just got a Highlander for our new baby. Perfect family car, tons of utility and it's huge!
Plan on getting married?
@Semper Fi thats what i thought also😂
In my country babies don’t drive cars.
Don't do it
Milage now on it?
We had two Highlanders and both reached 300K miles without having to rebuild transmission or engine. Even their ACs, suspensions, paint still original.
Dealer service is less costly than all other brands I’ve owned. ❤️TOYS with SMILES 😊
Is it hybrid????
Scotty praises the Highlander!...
Used Highlander prices skyrocket!!
Scotty also trains his viewers to be the consummate cheapskates, so these price gouging sellers might be in for a disappointment!
my co worker sold a 01 Highlander for 9,000 with 240k miles. I don't know how he did it. I would have drove away burning rubber.
I'm still looking for a good Matrix, thanks to him. :/ 😅
Used Toyota's are already very expensive
@@Hopeofmen I traded my matrix for a highlander with 250000km on it and ran like a new car all the American cars I owned never lasted that long.
“Wouldn’t be surprised if the car outlasts him” 😂. Should be Toyota’s catchphrase
"TOYOTA - Our cars will outlive you"
Now that's funny!!!
That would be an excellent catchphrase, but not in America. the majority of people are too sensitive and would need a lot of hugs and therapy for years to get over it.
@@TheBsmith97 Its a damn sight better than their current catchphrase which is 'Oh what a feeling! Toyota'. Well in my country at least, that is their catchphrase.
Scotty is savage
I'm on my second highlander in 15 years and love it. You should also mention that it's build on the mini van frame and suspension not a truck. So it rides a lot better than a truck. Smooth ride, lots of room, easy to enter and exit. Slide right in, unlike a sedan that's low to the ground.
It’s actually built on Camry chassis that’s why it rides like a car
Tonight I bought a 2005 Highlander with 204,000 miles on it paid 3000 this thing is awesome!!
V6 🤩
Wow, and it’ll go double that at least
How many miles on it now?
Is the vehicle still awesome?
This is 100% true. We stretched our budget for a brand new 2007 Highlander. 1 dog, 2 kids, and 200K miles later it is still going strong. Never had a single significant problem.
OMG I had brand new GM venture, aveo( nightmares) and a Ford ranger a little better they fell apart at 80k or 85k miles. I took care them by the book
Hey you mentioned 2 kids. Do you think 3 would be cramped? I really want to stay in this size vehicle!
Josh Fischer Good deal. And you can get these for reasonable cheap, up to your 2007 model. 2008 is a big jump in price though. It’s bigger and has more modern features.
@@jpmarie9 No, 3 wouldn't be cramped. I have a 2001 Highlander and my 3 boys (11, 17 and 19) still fit in the backseat together, comfortably. They're tall, too, ranging between 5'4 and 6'3 if that helps. Model year may be a bit different, however, so definitely test one out if you can.
I hear the 2007 were a really good year. I see them all over now that I'm looking. It's crazy.
I have a 12 year old Toyota Tundra and it still runs like brand new. Never one problem out of this truck.
AWESOME!!! 👍
Make it another million mile tundra
2017 Toyota 70 series wagon gl is my dream ride!!! 😍💯

One day i'm gonna say the same thing!
Aka I am not rich
AL he could be owning a Toyota 2000gt for all you know lmao
Just 1, I got 4 of them, granted 2 of them are 1997's
I did too until it was totaled this past January. I miss that car. 2006 Toyota Corolla. Started up every morning even in Wisconsin winter and got through the snow . Loved that car. Was simply but got me where I needed to go everytime. Plan on trying for a Highlander in a few months.
I bought a 2008 Toyota Highlander with 116K miles on it a few years back and now I have over 200K and the thing runs like new. It has been the best car as for reliability. Here is to hopefully hitting 300K miles.
You still driving it?
@@cte3109 Yes Sir, I just had the suspension replaced with Toyota parts. It is by far the best “reliable” vehicle that I have ever bought. I am very big into preventative maintenance as well. If you have any questions, please let me know. 👍
@@lpg12338have you had any issues with the water pump or any oil leaks?
@@lpg12338Thanks for Info. I just bought a 2009 Sport with 107K miles on it. Drives like a brand new car. I've been a loyal Honda guy since I was a kid. My parents had accords Pilots and then I bought several accords and Odyssey van. But made the switch to Highlander mainly because of this CZcams channel.
i love how the car slightly moves forwards and backwards as Scotty shakes his hands =))) Scotty and Toyota cars work in perfect harmony
hahaha ikr but its no trick. hes leaning on the car so when it does his hands he leans forward moving the car haha
I'm surprised a mechanic would not engage the parking brake.

Got 200k on my 07 Highlander and absolutely love it. It’s been a joy ever since we bought it brand new.
@Greg Valentine it's actually average for an SUV of its size. And if mpgs is your main concern, they have a Highlander Hybrid especially made for great MPG.
@Greg Valentine my '08 V6 gets 18/20.
@@jtafoya88 Yes, my 06 Hybrid still averages 28.6 MPG even pulling a trailer. Not bad a for a loaded SUV. Plus, uses regular gas. Hard to beat.
Highlander’s are high on one thing, a bore to drive!
Juan Tafoya my 07 V6 gets about 16mpg but I don’t baby it at all. Plus I have off road wheels and tires on her.
Love my Highlander, it's over 6 years now and nothing broken...still runs like new.
I had a 2004 Highlander V6. Bought it new and wanted to keep it 15 to 20 years. My wife totaled it with 85,000 miles. I took good care of it and it was like new when she wrecked it. That happened 7 years ago and I still miss that vehicle. It was made in Japan and I liked the size/style of first generation of Highlander better than the newer models.
I bet the structure of the car saved her life also.
We bought a used Highlander AWD with 37,000 miles and cannot be any happier with the vehicle. 3rd row is best for the younger occupants but it rides and handles like a dream. The vehicle is so smooth riding down the highway it can lull you to sleep because it is so comfortable. Like Scotty says. Make sure it was well maintained and if you keep it well maintained you can't go wrong.
Spot on Scotty - we have an '09 Highlander - Japan built, original owners, taken it everywhere - the thing is solid!
Tony Virata solidly boring
@@thrasherx2k1 yeah, she's never stranded us or broke down, so that's pretty boring I suppose 😁
Tony Virata I buy cars based on looks or cool or unique features. Toyota’s usually have neither going for them so I look elsewhere. I understand people buy them for reliability but I need a little more excitement in my life, you only live once!
Armando Sturzenegger why does any of that matter?
thrasherx2k1 it does mate..
Thanks a lot Scotty, now the value of every used highlander went up by 110% 😲
Scotty...really like the new intro. I've got a 2010 toyota Highlander, limited, with the v6 280 horse. 120k+ mi. Love it. Been a great vehicle and no major mechanical issues so far.
I've witnessed two of these things in my immediate family, freakin tanks.
Wife and I just bought a 2016 highlander. We love it! Thanks to your video on the 5 best used suv's.
My parents bought a Highlander too and they like it, im trying a honda pilot right now and love it
@@LittleCD The new Pilots are NICE and are a little more fun, IMO. But $50K+ for a top trim is a LOT of dough.

@@cfr9438 I just bought mine today. Its a 2011, one owner as well, clean car fax. Its beautiful. Mine has close to 150.000 miles on it. I'm loving it so far.
Since I started watching Scotty I started researching Toyota for my family. We recently bought a 2016 Highlander limited platinum with 47k miles. What a beauty! It drives like a dream the space and all the bells and whistles. I have asked about 30 random people in Highlanders and 100% have said wont buy anything else. The Highlander is what we went with and I am completely sold on the Highlander.
We bought ours 2016 brand new. It has 42k but its still amazing and runs great
How much did you pay buddy? I'm looking to buy the same year and miles
@@Tommy-iv4cd we bought it brand new that same year. We needed an suv cause we had a child on the way and we just wanted reliabity and so far so good. At the time it was about 37k for the xle leather seats, captain seats in the back row.
Tommy. I bought my Limited platinum with 47k miles for 28k. Have not found one that price. For the Limited platinum if you can find one they are going for 34-35k. You can find an XLE for around 28-31k
Ya but 2016 with 40,000 miles usually go for 24,000 to me not worth it 😢
Funny timing! I'm getting my 2017 Highlander at 1pm today! Going from 2010 Honda CR-V EX AWD.
How do you like it? I’ve been wanting 2017 Highlander for a while now, and I really hope I can get one soon!
This just happened to me today! Civic exl 2008 to toyota highlander xle 2017
I've owned 3 Highlanders and my parents have had 4. ALL of them have been excellent vehicles and lasted well over 200k miles. I've owned a 2008 Hybrid, 2012 Hybrid and now a 2017 XLE non hybrid. Great in snow and I even tow my aluminum 17ft boat with it. Does a great job!
I adore my Highlander. Dad bought it new, it was last one off the lot in 08 and he got a steal on it. 15 years and 130k miles later I drove it out to college. Enough room for ferrying around all my friends and for car camping with my girl. Great in the snow and on dirt, and with 270 HP it's no slouch! I will drive it until the wheels fall off.
My parents owns a 2005 Highlander over 200k miles for 14 years now. Never had any issues. Still with original engine and transmission. That thing is bulletproof
I also have a 2005 highlander, it’s got the limited trim with every option. First year for stability control, pretty nice- has heated seats, sunroof and factory amplified JBL stereo system.168,000 miles, only gripe is all the struts are shot, and it’s a royal pain in the arse to change the transfer case fluid, drain plug is buried in exhaust pipes.
I have a 2005 Toyota Highlander..bought it 10 years ago...used and had 64k...still running beautiful now at 285K. No major issues. Just keep up with your basic maintenance (oil, etc.) and a Toyota will last a long time. All my previous cars were Toyota. I ❤ TOYOTA!!!I once had a Toyota that had almost hit 400K before I trade it in.
@@Merrimantdm That's so good to hear! My '01 Highlander is right at 270k. Engine is flawless and still purrs like a dream. I've had it for 15 years and I'm just now changing the struts, bearings, ball joints, etc. But other than basic oil changes and brake pads/rotors, I haven't done anything to it. I'm expecting it to get to at least 300k, if not more!
Now THAT is a base model highlander. Just one trim level up is soo much nicer.
..how much is the brand new one (base model) in the US?
yes the XLE is well worth the extra money
Hey Scotty, I'm 50 years old. My parents bought a 2016 v6 brand new. It now has 7k miles on it. I think that thing will probably outlive us all. Looks great next to my 4runner and Challenger.

Got the 06 Highlander Hybrid Limited. Absolutely love it. Hitting almost 400 miles in a tank ! And its a V6
Using the same this is a miraculous car....almost 250k miles and I'm not ready to give it to anyone.😉
My son-in- law is a mechanic. When we started looking at the Buick Escalade he told us GMs have timing belt issues. I said what about a Toyota Hghlander he said it's one of the best cars on the market. My brother as driven toyota for 30yrs. and never had any issues other than replacing tires and brakes and scheduled oil changes he never took them in for anything more. You are so awesome Scotty!! Keep doing what you are doing!
2013 Highlander. Love it. When I first got it, trying to turn it around quickly in the road felt like I was driving the space shuttle. Now I can whip it about easily, or I just drive over stuff.
I absolutely love My 2005 Highlander!
I just bought a 2019 Highlander XLE.. its very smooth / well equipped / well put together. The problem with the 3rd Gen highlander is that they are still VERY expensive used.. a 2014-2016 with under 50k miles is still 26k+ at least around here in the NE.
Thank you Scotty for the information. I've been looking for a SUV that our family can use to travel in, and I was looking for a used Toyota Highlander as one of my top three choices of vehicles to buy to fit the bill. My concerns were the reliability y of one SUV that can last several years, which can be exclusively used for traveling. I think I found the answer. Keep it up Scotty, love your videos.😁
We bought a 2005 Highlander, 3.3L V6 w/ all-wheel Drive in 2015 with 54,900 miles. It has been a good one and my wife has been driving it and loves it. I put on a set of Michelins a year ago and that helped the ride and handling. With the AmsOil lubricants it should last a long while. We’re at 105,000 miles now and it’s a keeper.
Just bought my 2018 V6 LE about 3 weeks ago, it drives great. It has 29,000 miles on it and I hope to keep it as long as it will keep me. I had a 2003 Honda Odyssey EX for 16 yrs until someone crashed us, that was a great car but now the kids are bigger so I ventured out to a SUV. I saw this video after my purchase, but I did my research and glad that it’s “Scotty” approved, not cheap but I wanted another long lasting vehicle 🚗
I bought a 4cyl Tacoma 2 and a half years ago. It was an 07. Up until my son wrecked it last month, it ran perfect. I will definitely buy another one.
@-TheManInDboX - my 07 was the 2.7l 5 speed Manual. It also had a frame replaced just before I bought it. I was a bit upset when my son wrecked it.
Great!!..I was planning to buy one but because of Scotty, now the Highlander price is gonna go up. Thanks Scotty
Lol, probably.
Just bought my 2nd Highlander after totally my 1st one. Insurance paid me $8500 on a gen 1 and I just picked up a like new 2013 gen 2 for $12k! 150k miles and 300k+ to go.
Just hit 270,000 miles on my 04 with the v6. Gotta look at the tachometer to see if it’s running because it idles so smooth and quiet and still rides like it’s new. I was starting to wonder and question if I should lose the thing. But not now. Should get another couple hundred thousand out of it from what Scotty is saying. Really enjoy this vehicle
THIS. my power steering is loud, but the engine? at 225k can't even tell it's running. The transmission is showing slight signs of wear, but of a car with almost 100k less miles. 12/10 recommend.

Dylan Garcia yup, my 2017 definitely gets 25-28 on the highway. Is awesome..
We like our ‘11 Highlander a lot. The 2.7 liter 4-cyl is quite adequate for four people and a pile of luggage. If I was towing anything, or hauling more people with their stuff in a rooftop cargo box, the V-6 or the hybrid might be a better idea. 20-26mpg, and pretty simple and very reliable for a modern car. We have 150K miles on ours, and it sure seems like it’ll get to 300K without huge cash transfusions.
You read my mind, Scotty. I've been looking at these on the used market. 2009 and up.

I enjoy watching and getting all of the information you share with the viewer. I have been on the fence about buying a "New to me" used car. I'm leaning towards the Highlander. I've been gathering as much info as a can about them. One thing I do know is that not all of the models have a timing chain. The four cylinder from 2001 thru 2007 and 2009 thru 2014 do indeed have a timing chain. The 2001 thru 2007 V6 has a timing Belt. The 2008 thru 2014 V6 has a timing chain. This info is only applies to Gasoline powered cars.
What year do you recommend
$6k budget
I bought a 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited.
I do a lot of city driving so the hybrid made a lot of sense.
Fuel economy is of course great.
What I wasn't expecting is how awesome it is to drive. Lots of instant torque at any speed, smooth as butter parking since it does it on electric only, and low maintenance.
Highly recommended.
I just bought one three weeks ago. 06 highlander. Run like new I love it. I had a 06 impala and it stayed in the shop soon as it hit 100k miles. I gave up on it and bought a Toyota thanks to watching Scotty videos.
Rented one in Orlando and I fell in love with it. Trying to find one at auction. Great vid
Found anything yet? Im thinking the same.
The Highlander is immortal! But you can have only one.
Love my 2019 highlander. Had a Tahoe before. Glad I switched to Toyota
I LOVE my 2007 Highlander! I bought it used i n 2011 with 75,000 miles. It's so comfortable I feel like I'm driving from my living room chair. I repurpose furniture so I've carried full size sofas, dressers, desks, armoires. My nieces love the 7 seats, we can do road trips all together. Easy to maintain as long as you change the oil. 213, 000 miles so far. I plan to keep it forever. I like the fact there is no fancy gadgets and GPS in case I need to bug out. 😁
Watching you over the years have helped me learn a lot about good and bad trucks I have had 5 dodges in the last 15 years lots of problems on one the only thing that hasn't been worked on so far is the transmission so I'am looking at the Toyota Highlander next.
Looks like the owners use the cowl (where the windshield wipers rest) as a composting shelf!
Looks like they may have survived. You should worry more about the dogs slobbering and peeing in the back. I worry about neither because it isn’t my car.
Also the leaves provide soundproofing!
@@davemcguigan218 Very important in some Japanese models, where sound deadening material seems not to exist in engineers' minds.
Maestro_T your right! Toyotas are rattle traps! They may be reliable but handle like crap and ride terrible! My friends got a 2008 Highlander, it's reliable but my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee handles and rides like a dream! And it's also reliable!
Green cars FTW
This guy Scotty can't beat his info
Thanks Scotty!. I've got a 2011 Highlander. 135K miles on it. The only issue is that the central armrest wears out too fast!. That's it, no other issue. Love the video Pop-ups!. Cheers
Love my Highlander, Scotty speaks the truth!
I Purchased mine new first year 2001 4cyl ,156k still running great . I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.
Bought used 2001 like yours. 2 weeks later transmission goes out. Looks precious owners didn't change fluid.. lived it like new. Took back to dealership
My wife has a 2008 Toyota Highlander Limited she loves it
@#TEAM TRUMP 132000 MI
My 08 has 164,000 miles on it. Running like a champ!
My 08 limited has 54,000 miles now. Got it with 14,000 4 years ago from a little old lady whose husband passed away and it was too much car for her so she kept it in the garage five years before selling it. It still looks brand new that's my baby.
Stang Lincoln the limited is worth it, basically Lexus interior.
I have a 2001 V6 4wd with 280k+ miles. It's still great.
Wrecked my 06 Highlander hybrid and insurance gave me $8k for it even with 140k miles on it. (I bought it 4 years ago for $9k) Talk about holding value. I turned around and paid $12k for a 2013 4 cylinder and it almost gets as good gas mileage as the hybrid. Love it!
I've owned 2 Honda Pilots (2005 and a 2010), the crossover version of the Nissan Pathfinder (huge mistake, horrible CVT) and now a 2016 Highlander. The Highlander is far and away the best of the bunch and it hasn't given me a lick of trouble. Oil changes, new tires and a new battery were all that were needed over my 4 years of ownership. The car is as solid as it was brand new, with nary a rattle or a squeak. I am seriously considering buying a 2020 when they arrive in dealerships.
I regret that I had to trade in my Highlander it was a 2014 Shoreline pearl blue it was such an amazing Suv
Shifted from getting a Glk to end up buying a highlander because I trust Scotty Kilmer. Picking it up tomorrow, thank you so much Scotty!
Loving the videos Scotty. 🇨🇦😎🤙🏼
Hey Scotty, I listened to your comments about high mileage cars mostly on highway miles. So I got a 2010 Prius on 234K mileage for just $3.6k. It has also full package and very clean. Runs like new, thanks man
