Rod, this is your final video? Goodness gracious. Your videos have helped me so very much during my journey as a student and private pilot. Thank you so much.

I wish I had seen this video a few months ago when I started, although I didn't have much choice of flight instructors at my flight school. I waited three months for one to be assigned to me; if I didn't like him, I'd have been back in the queue. The one I have isn't great and would probably have scored poorly on a lot of these questions, but I am learning things and he seems willing to listen to my feedback so I'll ride it out for now.

Sometimes you have to work with what you have. Then again, you seem to be teaching your instructor how to teach you. If so, then you're doing the right thing. Make sure you're following a syllabus and make sure he follows it. Ensure he gives you feedback after every lesson and tells you what to expect on the next lesson. Most important, make sure you're progressing. Keep me posted here.

@@Flight-Instructor Thanks, yes they do have a strict syllabus. I need to pass each lesson before I am allowed to progress to the next one. That has its own challenges because they won't let us skip ahead when the weather isn't conducive to doing what's in the syllabus; we just have to cancel. But at least I know where I stand after each lesson.
And thanks as well for your other video on how to be a good student... Noted. Just today I talked back when he reminded me of the order pitch, power trim (I did pitch and power at the same time and told him as much)... I guess I will have to bring him an apple next lesson.

Question number 10 makes the assumption that the instructor has a social media presence. Not everyone chooses to have one. Would not being on social media be a red flag or would it just be a relatively neutral data point?

I'm going for my sport pilot and had a great instructor and was signed off to solo but the plane I was training in went down for maintenance, that was over a year and a half ago. Finally found another school that had a sport plane but my instructor I have is totally just doing it for the hours so I'm going to wait until next year when it get's warmer and hopefully he's moved on. I mentioned another instructor to him and he said he'd talk to someone to put me in but he never got back with me, that was in August.
