I'm a heavy equipment diesel technician so this issue is never common place but own a 14 2.5 malibu. Had same issue twice now. Did some research to find this issue. Then one day at work met a guy who's uncle designed the 2.5 and 2.4 eco motors for gm. Me and him had a great talk let me tell you. The only way to resolve this problem it to remove the rubber gasket from factory and install a neoprene gasket. The rubber creates vibration and bolt will lossen up again. Since I did it's never lossened up again. The 2.5 pcvs need changed often. Don't forget to do that. You can blow a rear main seal. No good. The pipe that connects them has a downward loop which collects moisture. I haven't done this next step yet but will because it makes complete sense and the guy told me do this and I fully believe him. The pipes loop needs removed and install and straight hose with two shrink clamps on the ends. No more moisture build up. He's seen many many rear main seals blow because of this. " ". I bought a 2015 Impala 2.5 L with 108000 miles a month ago and I just discovered today while pulling the throttle body for a cleaning my bolts were loose also. It wasn't throwing any codes but did make a funny throbbing/rattling sound on acceleration. Buttoned it all up and now the sound is gone. Lesson learned.
I been having this issue with my moms car. Same engine, put new spark plugs in it. (They needed replaced anyway) still running lean. So thanks for the tip. As a mechanic you still learning.
This is an issue with Chevrolet Malibu’s as well. Took my dealership 6 weeks to figure it out. When they did they charged me for a maintenance cost of $400.
I found the 3 bolts to the intake on top. I understand there are 2 more bolts. Anyone know where the location of those 2 bolts are at and how to get at them???
@guylivesay8330 yes I did. However, tightening the loose bolts didn't resolve the issue. I ended up spraying the throttle body with cleaner. I then removed the MAF sensor and sprayed it as well. Let it set to dry for about 10 minutes. That combination seemed to resolve the issue. Head scratcher for sure but it worked. No issues since. Good luck all.
One of the Video’s you seen was My Original Video 5 yrs ago on my Wife’s 2015 Malibu 2.5 Ecotec… I cannot believe GM has Not taken care of this Issue YET!!! This makes my blood boil!! This has been going on since 2011
Or use loc tite haha ! That is if u don’t ever plan on taking it apart again. I have 222k on mine and this just popped up so I’ll just te tighten if they are lose and if the code goes away I’ll just check it every 6 months
Thats the auto stop feature. Suppose to save you gas (eco mode) thats why you have a extra small battery at your truck side compartment, almost all newer cars are coming with it to pass the MPG city regulations. If your car it shut off not using gas during during a stop you should be able to go an extra hundred feet compared to cars that dont have that feature hence the extra mpg!
@@josecoldblood2379 there is aftermarket programming that has the option in it to turn start stop off. Oem does not. But can fool car to think it has not met criteria to use start stop. Temp, door shut, hood trunk ect. About it.

Yup I had a Malibu and Impala. Same problem with both. I almost bought a throttle body for $400 and found a video and tried it. It worked.

You've probably found them by now, but the other two are on the far left and far right of the intake, and slightly lower than the three top ones.
