Our third game of Warhammer: The Old World! - Battle Report 1000 Points, Orcs Vs Chaos (Nurgle)!

- Our other battle reports have been well received, and we've really enjoyed making them so here's another, this time it's a Nurgle Chaos Lord trying to claim a monolith to aid his ascension to daemonhood, only to meet a bunch of Orcs standing in his way!
This battle we used the Command and Control scenario and the rules for Arcane Monolith as the special feature in the middle.
We had another awesome game and really hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

I like the focus on narrative over crunch. This is ultimately a game and telling a fun story on the tabletop is what it should be about

Now, if it was a tournament however, then I would play differently 👍

Love the use of the Maw Krusher as a Wyvern. Those Orcs look proper krumpy! And of course, I always fully endorse the use of black orcs. Great report and nice armies for the 1000 pts level!

Agreed, I think the maw krusha is perfect, and it is just a wyvern by another name 👍😄

Are there any issues with the Maw-Krusha being on a significantly bigger base than the Wyevrn is supposed to be on?
@@benedicthaskell3218 he will get a bigger command range, but he can be hit by more enemies in base contact, so it’s swings and roundabouts really

Main problem right now is we have to stop and look up the rules very often which results in a lot of dead time. Might be something we do in the future though 👍🙂

I'm not 100% sure, but does the Wyvern have unit strength 7 and the chaos lord have unit strength 3? Thus the lord would straight up break, could be wrong.

This is a good reason to take large blocks of infantry then 👍
Both list are illegal. An army must include a minimum of three non-character units, not including units whose troop types is swarms, war machines or war beast. Page 276

Couple of points though:
1. I didn’t realise that swarms didn’t count towards the minimum 3, so good to know 👍
2. Not sure why the nurgle army is illegal, if you can let me know that would be much appreciated 🙂
3. When playing with family and friends, legal rosters are completely optional, we play to have an awesome time, and will often ignore the rules to have more fun (like with the flagellants in our second game) 👍😄
Did you ever use the "Gaze of the gods" ability? Might have missed if you said it in video. Although i don't think it would have helped you a lot :).
Also wondering if you elected to follow up, failed restrain or if you actually did restrain and charged in your turn when the war boss killed all the knights? Almost seemed like the knights didn't get to attack at all.
Anyway great game and report. And I just love those models!
To be honest I forgot about Gaze of the Gods but I'm not sure how much I rate it.
The knights did attack, but I rolled really poorly for them.

Don´t think I would ever use a Wyvern in anything less than 2000p.. Besides, there are alot of fun, humble units, many in Core and pushing those aroundusing actual tactics rather than any lack of it, frontal charge with some monster is more rewarding. It is usually a good indication of the brain power of people, wathing them do their min-max lists. Lack of IQ, more of the easy-to-use stuff..
The real reason for using the Wyvern and Giant is my son has not used them yet, and just wanted to get a game in with them and see how they work. He really enjoyed it and got a feel for them, so I see that as a win 👍🙂
