    As a med student as well everything he said is so relatable! I used to think that it’s okay to fall behind sometimes, but I failed to realize that the gap just gets bigger as time passes: so it’s really important to stay consistent😔

    I just graduated from PA school. I settled in my mind that I would have no life for the 2yrs 4mos of PA school. From Saturday to Saturday I was in the library. Sometimes we finished class early, I went straight to the library. I would sit in a study room from morning to evening. I would take breaks to go on facebook or CZcams or watch a movie and just casually learn the material. It was low pressure learning and retention. Once you determine that you are giving up a social life, spending that much time on studying becomes easy. This is a great video!

    • @maggmaxxx
      @maggmaxxx Pƙed 3 lety +2

      John Wayne I completely agree. You don’t have to give up a social life completely in order to succeed in school. Giving up a social life was just a method I used to insure my success.

    Another great video Jimmy! My thoughts: a lot of your videos emphasize simple hard work. I am 38 now and had the attitude of earning success by just working as hard as I could and putting in as many hours as possible throughout my 20s and early 30s. The problem I ran into is that I started to burn out, and then I started to develop bad habits, and my work became less efficient. I could force myself to sit down in front of my computer or my instrument or whatever, but if I was burnt out, I didn't focus. Eventually I got in the habit of not focusing - my brain started to EXPECT that when I sat down to work, I would not be focused. Now I feel it is better to practice moderation - if you always push yourself to give 100%, eventually, you wear yourself down, even if it takes years and years. Not only is it not fun, it is efficient, so you lose everything. Better to stop at 90%. That's my experience anyway. I noticed in your video where you studied for 100 hours in one week, you weren't getting proper sleep, which makes me think that kind of effort isn't sustainable.
    Secondly, in regards to reviewing, I really like using Anki, but in creative ways. Sometimes I use fairly high-level concepts on Anki cards. For example, you could have an Anki card that just says "What do you know about the mitochondria?" Then when I see it I just do some active, free recall about everything I can remember about the mitochondria. If I feel like I did a good job, I can move on, otherwise, I'll review the lecture on the mitochondria. Then the Anki algorithm will take care of prompting me to review the lectures that need review at the appropriate times.
    All that being said, I find your videos very helpful in motivating me to keep studying! Thanks!

    I love it man! “Ef that, you have to be your best”. You really do have to have that mentality in every single aspect of life, inside and outside of medicine. I really feel like you need to take that mentality to everything. When you sweep the floor you need give it 110% and that will spill over to everything. And in medicine that’s extremely important. We don’t have the luxury to do anything less than 110%. We aren’t realtors, if we mess up at our job we don’t lose someone a good deal, we could cost them their life. Great videos man. Awesome quality, even better content. Students are lucky to have you

I’m in a Radiologic Technology Program so I’ve been studying 5-7 hours everyday using the exact same methods you mentioned in this video. 5-7 hours seems like a long time (it is) but I feel more and more confident with the material with each passing day. I take frequent 10-15 minute breaks periodically as well. I feel like I can pass any exam with flying colors. My stress level has diminished significantly! My literature teacher: this won't be in the exam
    The exam: has the exact same thing she said she wouldn't include.
    My anatomy teacher: these questions re important, at least three of them are going to be on the exam.
    The exam: has literally none of those questions.

    When you revise do you always go through your concise notes only? I am also a medstudent but I feel like my University does the testing in such a manner that you need to now every minute detail and you need to remeber the specific way they present a concept. Is it the same in your case? What do you think would be the best approach? Btw looove your channel!!

    These are actually really great tips, thanks for sharing some new insights instead of simply rephrasing stuff we already know! I was actually able to figure out the essay question for my most difficult class in law school in all three exams we had just by paying attention to what the professor spent the most time explaining or what he seemed to consider the most important part of a unit. Everyone thought I was lucky, but I couldn't understand how they didn't figure it out - turns out they just weren't really paying attention in class.
