- I got the train to Ardrossan in Ayrshire. It's on the Clyde Coast and it's from Ardrossan Harbour that you get the ferry to the Isle of Arran. On this visit, I went to Ardrossan Castle, and to one of Ardrossan's two beaches. If you have watched Tutti Frutti, part of it was filmed in Ardrossan. There were also some swans, who appear to have made the beach their home.

lovely video you showed beautiful places and interesting watching all the castle
I’m glad that you enjoyed it
I spent many a happy hour scrabbling over the castle ruins with my pals back in the 50s. We believed the old tale that there was a secret tunnel connecting the castle to Kilwinning Abbey and put in a lot of effort trying to locate it. Ludicrous when you think of the distance involved, but we were young and naive then! I also remember rolling Easter eggs down Cannon Hill on Easter Monday.
I’m glad that you have so many happy memories of the castle. I’m sure that it must have been such a stunning place to explore as a child
Hello from Auckland NZ. My wee old home town one mile away Saltcoats, much more to see abd do, however i really enjoyed your wee trip to Cannon Hill which is where the castle sits on. Used to climb to the top and look over to Saltcoats as a wee boy. Thanxx again taking me down memory lane x
I'm glad that you enjoyed the video. I'm happy to be of service.
There is so much more to the town it’s people and it’s history. Hopefully the fence won’t be there on your next visit but a nice wee video. thanks for coming
I totally agree with you. There are so many wee places in Scotland that have so much to offer, and I think that Ardrossan is one of them. I do need to do a return visit. I’m glad that you enjoyed the video.
I stayed on the Isle of Arran for twelve days, two years ago. I documented landscapes while there. Beautiful area! I am a landscape painter.
I've been to Arran a couple of times. I was hoping to get over this year, but obviously, that didn't happen. I do want to get back to Arran at some point and shoot some videos. It is a beautiful and amazing place.
Spent many a day up the hill slidin doon on a milanda breed board, looks very different fro oor day wae fences, we had free range tae climb.I also remember gone doon the dungeon a few times.
It would be lovely to see more made of the castle.
Thanks for that. I hope they stabilize what's left of that castle before it crumbles.
So do I. To lose the castle would be heartbreaking
That was it stablised
micheal mcarthur hopefully the stabilisation does it’s job.

I used to holiday in a flat in Hill Street as a kid!
That's near the castle, isn't it?
Yes right at the foot of castle hill I grew up there.
A guid wee video aboot Ardrussan.
Thank you. I'm so gad that you enjoyed it.
I would have liked to have seen glasgow street back in the 60s and 70s it was the retail part of ardrossan, but nice video!
Is that the bit that I walked through, to get to the Castle?
A Scottish Odyssey it would have been down the hill on the other side. Still a nice video!
Billy Boy thank you
Behind the bars and heading underground, there is a mineral well.
I didn't know that. I'm guessing that would have been the main water source for the castle. That would have been helpful, with the castle being up n the hill.
@@AScottishOdyssey I'd say you're right. Old people, long since dead, told me that before the bars went up local folk regarded that well as having health-giving properties. Behind South Beach train station on the Saltcoats side of the burn, there used to be a sort of health spa. Maybe the spring sources are similar or linked.
That could be something for me to look for, the next time that I'm in Ardrossan.
A mineral well when did you last step foot in Ardrossan did you see the cows shite 2'n a half mile up the hill. Tell a lie I dropped plenty last time I dunked in 🤣
