Life After Goldman: Front Row With Lloyd Blankfein

  • Lloyd Blankfein, the former chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs, would rather be serving in government. That, after all, is what so many Goldman leaders did. But these days Washington is mostly closed to Wall Street, and so Blankfein has been keeping himself busy trading stocks and commodities. In this exclusive interview, he discusses life in retirement, the things he misses most, the challenge of raising interest rates, cryptocurrencies, New York's post-Covid future, and his few regrets. Blankfein spoke exclusively with Erik Schatzker on Bloomberg's "Front Row." (Source: Bloomberg)

That's why this generation of leaders needs to go.

    Why was it acceptable for those who accrued exorbitant levels of wealth to then transition to government? We need _representatives_ in government, not those who have spent their lives making friends in high places. Good for them to achieve the American dream so thoroughly, but we have problems that can't be solved without perspective.

      You HAVE representatives in the government. He's looking for an executive job appointed by elected officials. Is the DMV clerk a representative, or just an employee? Your statement sounds so grand, for people who don't understand the composition of the government.

    • @bobsondugnutt7526

      @@ggttuuxx Economic Policy Institute provides data regarding wealth inequality that supports my point here. Wealth inequality has never been greater in the US, with middle and lower income communities being hit the hardest as commerce continues to centralize.
      I say that to say our representatives have led us to this, and a big reason is that they gain from appointing people like this guy (DMV clerks don't have the same connections typically). We need more and better _representation_ in government (appointed positions apply here since we finance them), not those who spent their careers in a microcosm of concentrated power.

    Genuinely this man should be in prison!! It's amazing how much we as American citizens are so easily decieved by great Public Relations teams in believing that most persons in positions of serious power are "nice" people. I say this not in condemnation but I do pray this man repents of his enormous transgressions during his "banking" life.

    • @myb1161
      @myb1161 Před 2 lety +2

      What did he do? Lead an organization that's one of the major players of the financial system? Worked hard his entire life and reached his full potential? Yes the '08 crisis (along with all of the other financial crises in history) was terrible, and yes, there was much corporate "unethical" behavior. But if you ask me, those morons taking out loans they couldn't afford and spending more than they should are equally accountable. You want him to be a nice guy? You've obviously never been in a business leadership position. Goldman is as "bad" an entity as is a manufacturing company in the third world dumping its waste in a river. This is capitalism. Grow up, because it's the best system we can (concretely) come up with.
