  • This was recorded in a home VCR by a close relative over 20 years ago for my daughter who was learning Bharatha Natyam. The program was a series with several episodes. This is mainly to serve as an inspiration for young students who are starting to learn this great art form.

This is called true PhD, and she is the real doctorate and apotheosis. She needs to be conferred Padma Vibhushan and Bharat Ratna for bringing the knowledge to light with thorough study, knowledge and Analysis. Only then the awards make sense.

    My pranaams to.
Shri Padmasubramanyamji for her research and reviving the old art form . It is excellent. The performing artistes in this video needs high appreciation and they should be encouraged. I don't understand why this form is not in practice.
It is very unfortunate that our govt.ment is not encouraging to

Savanth Kumar Naidu thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Passionate dedication and unbounded efforts these artists, as well as Doordarshan, have undertaken to create these precious media (I am still trying to locate the other items in this series) is truly an authentic reference material for generations to come. I resonate also with your other thoughts. We hope Dance Teachers will do all they can do to continue the traditions with young students, while we connoisseurs also encourage and steer our dances to keep out dubious avocations. br Sri.

Absolutely mesmerizing performance, fluidity of interpretation and purity of expression.
No other dance form pursued by man has such deep spiritual connotations.
There are no words to thank you enough.
    May Shiva grant you perfection.

Thanks for taking the time to express your articulate thoughts about the documentary and its fine aspects. All credits go to the artists, Doordarshan and our forefathers for creating, nurturing and passing on these forms of art forms to us. With the wishes, blessings and commitments of all the patrons, teachers and students like you, here and outside, I am sure the current generation can deliver on our responsibilities and pass on to the future generations. I am, at best, just a relay. Sri.

@@arsreedhar Very few people of the current generation have genuine love for the traditional and classical form of the performing arts. There is also a serious dearth of role models, pedagogues and preeminent exponents.
The world has become very materialistic. Art for the perfection of the soul, nobilty of expression and higher spiritual attainment is now no longer cherished except for perhaps a select few who can and will pursue purity as a lifetime dedication.
Fifty years ago a classical concert would be attended by audiences many of whom would be students, teachers and practitioners of the art. Today the few who attend a classical concert are unlikely to appreciate real art. They come to hear or see acclaimed artists, mostly charlatans and false prophets.
Kitsch and fake is now lauded by the ignorant masses.
This is not the age where the finest of art, architecture, sculpture, dancing, performing arts enjoy Royal or governmental patronage.
Art cannot survive without a cultivated patronage.
"We can forgive a man for making a useful thing as long as he does not admire it. The only excuse for making a useless thing is that one admires it intensely.
      All art is quite useless."

    How many can understand English.
    For whome is this video?

    • @arsreedhar
      @arsreedhar  Před 3 lety +1

Savanth this video is a very thoughtful created product of Doordarshan and they chose to use English as the language, based on their best judgment. I am truly grateful for this and do not see anything wrong in their judgment.
But I do see the point you have raised - regardless of what percent of potential audience who may not be make full avail of this. However it would be really good to know the percentage -- so we can avoid putting efforts on a very marginal problem.
Ideally it is for us to create Subtitles in many languages. Given that you have raised this point, I will think about creating Subtitles in Tamil and Hindi - the two languages I know.
I would be thrilled if audience here can volunteer to do the same in the languages they know.
      Thanks for raising the point.
      Sri.
