Hi Amy. I have to agree with most topics you’ve discussed here except that I am growing a lot of my indoor orchids in leca purely because being in a wheelchair I get into such a mess with plants in soil and have now switched a lot of houseplants as well now that I’ve nailed the correct way to use leca (it took a while). I have put all my Hoyas into a Pon substitute for the same reason. Both substrates I use with home made self watering setups, again because it suits my way of life. As for moisture meters….a waste of money, in my opinion. Thanks for bringing these topics to our attention, I’m sure new as well as experienced growers can benefit from this video.

Hi Amy, I loved watching this, TOTALLY agree with all of the above, been there with most of your list too. I would add yellow sticky traps (thanks to mosquito bits) 😊 They work but by definition everything else sticks to them too😂 xxx

Definitely agree on the first few - I am not a moss pole girly, and my house is far too humid to ever need a humidifier!
But I love using pon for my alocasia (that's the only plant I use with it)

I still experiment with different substrates. I do have some moss poles. Was unaware the spagnum moss with not grown. I will reconsider that before making another purchase of it. i gave my moisture meter to a neighbor who was overwatering a snake plant I gave him. I have 6 fish aquariums in my house so the humidity stays around 50%. I believe most plants don't need it, but an adjustment period does happen. A very sensible video.

I was so scared I would mess up the watering so I got a moisture meter off amazon, it arrived broken. So I ordered one from Home Depo. It didn't seem to work at all, I got no readings. I gave up and kept using the finger in the soil method. I haven't killed anything yet.

I live in ireland and my plant journey same time in as you in 2020. and i know i am not half an expert as you Amy but i have to agree with you 100 percent. i stopped on my humidifier (spent so much money)and can’t remember where is my water meter. and i lift my pot to feel the weight to water. Sphagnum moss leca all i failed, and thank you for the branches idea the last time and i love them …. i would love to visit and see ur plants they look so beautiful

I agree with you. I don't want more stuff to clean either, and some humidifiers (if not all) use distilled water to prevent build-up so that's more stuff to buy. I haven't tried semi-hydro but I've been thinking about it.
Unrelated to plants, you look so much like Marilyn Monroe! You've probably been told that already but yesss!

Light and water meters are helpful and inexpensive The amount of light and water that your plant is getting is very important and a light and water meeter is very easy to use sure you can put your finger in the soil and tell if it needs water and you can keep moving a new plant until it starts to thrive or you could take the guess work out of it and use a light and water meter
