The "Marines' Hymn" is the official hymn of the United States Marine Corps, introduced by the first Director of USMC Band, Francesco Maria Scala. It is the oldest official song in the United States Armed Forces. The "Marines' Hymn" is typically sung at the position of attention as a gesture of respect. However, the third verse is also used as a toast during formal events, such as the birthday ball and other ceremonies. Western Illinois University uses the hymn prior to all football games. They are the only non-military academy allowed to use the hymn. The university has had permission to use the official nickname, mascot, and hymn of the Corps since 1927.

How do we know the Marines are badass? The Army and Navy advertises themselves with all the benefits they offer. The Marines advertise by pointing out that by joining, you get to be a Marine.

Honoring my husband, John M. Hopkins, who fought in Viet Nam as part of the 3rd Recon Battalion. He was awarded a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts. He is interred at Willamette National Cemetery, where I visit him often. When I do, I play this hymn for him. Semper Fi, my love. 💜

My 21 year old son went to Camp Pendleton today, September 11, 2023. I wanted him to go, but it has made me so terribly sad. I hope he's a better person after basic, but I do hope these 13 weeks go by very fast. Best to all the young men and women that have taken this path.

My 19 year old daughter Rachel left for Camp Pendleton on the 25th of September 2023. I can honestly say I understand what you are going through. At the moment we haven’t heard anything from her but are wishing the best. It’s hard not to get upset when you miss your kid with all your heart but at the same time excited at the thought of them standing before you at graduation.

@@adamdyer2286 Thanks for asking. I think he's doing well. At one point he got hand, foot, and mouth and was down for the count for several days. I was worried he would be held back. But they put him back in the mix once he was better and he's on track to graduate with his company/platoon in December. His two siblings, their dad, and I will be going out to see him. Very excited. Thanks for asking again. :)
My grandfather was a marine from 43-73, three times awarded the distinguished flying cross. he made it through WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. Had he not come home, I wouldn’t be here typing this today. Semper Fi, Marines. You do your country proud.

Love this hymn. My Great Grandpa was in the US Marines in WW2. He joined at just 17 years old. He lied to get in just like any other boy did at that time to go and serve their country. He was wounded at Iwo Jima by a grenade, and was sent back to the states. He passed in 2003 at the age of 77. SEMPER FI Great Grandpa and keep the streets of Heaven guarded.

My dad was a U.S marine for 27 years who fought in the Iraqi war and was never hit with a bullet once. He was in the 2nd battalion and was a Colonel. He worked with Navy SEALs and other marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. When I'm older I wish to join the Marines to be like my Dad and Grandfather.

I'm listening to this as I prepare to go on the journey to be a Marine. I have sat on my calling of the US Armed forces for years and told myself I couldn't do it. But life has taken me on a path I'd never thought I'd be on. Now I have no other choice but to listen to my heart and my heavenly father. I finally went to the recruiting office and talked to em I go back in on Saturday to get my physical and Asfab scheduled.

The continental Army existed before the Marines. US Special Operations teams comprised of Army Special Forces teams (Alpha or A Teams) are the first into combat zones before conventional forces ever step foot in a country we are at war with.
Forgot of MARSOC and Force Reconnaissance. Marines are the first to fight as they are the most mobile, army does have aviation divisions and tanks but marines have it but do it better with better training. Also Army Special Forces teams are called (ODA) Operational Detachment Alpha (3 digit number) Not just "Alpha Teams"

My neighbor was a Marine after 1968.
His hitch ended in 1972 but the only thing he was more proud of than being a Marine was his daughters.

My uncle never left the Marines in civilian life and died like one. Semper Fi! The wounds and battles he survived in Vietnam will be a part of our family as long as oral history continues. Happy Veterans Day to all who have ever served.
I never met my great grandfather. He served in the Pacific Front and died on the mountain pushing back the Japanese on Iwo Jima.
Nov 3, 2019: I dedicate this song to the memory of my first love, Sgt Manuel R. Martinez of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Manuel was killed on August 22, 1975 when he rolled his blue 240Z Datsun that had been purchased while stationed in Okinawa Japan. He loved the Corps, was a member of the Carpenters Union and the VFW. Only 23 at the time of his death, Manuel is buried at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. (Katrina)

My father a proud Marine, did his tour in Vietnam in '65. Many of the values the Marines instilled in him he passed down to his sons. He's strong, confident, resourceful, holds his head high and his back straight, looks every man in the eye. Glad he's my dad.

I was told by my DI that Marines never die, they just go to hell and regroup and I asked him "sir how can that be when the Marine Hymn says 'if the Army and Navy ever look upon Heaven's scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines' sir?" he went silent and I never heard anything more about it.

My dad wanted to be either a priest or a singer. We used to joke, "Put your hands together and pray like you just don't care!!" He instead served the Corps for 20 years. Gulf War: Op Desert Storm. He was infantry in Saudi Arabia. Retired as a Gunnery Sargeant. I'm glad for social media. We have a video when my brother joined the Corps, my dad loudly singing the anthem. RIP Dad.

I'm 14 and I already have the dream of working hard and earning the title of a Marine and to fight for God's Country.
The best thing I can tell you, is that it takes more work that’s you think it does. But, when you finally graduate and look back at all those days of PT and that last week, you’ll smile, and know you just did what thousands before you, and thousands after completed as well. You won’t just be on your own, you will have thousands, heck mabye millions of Marine Brothers ready to help.

I never had the Honor of serving but I still remember the lyrics of the Marines, Army, and Navy from my youth. We were taught all these songs in music class back when I was 5 or 6 years old.

@FBI Federal Bureau of Investigation I'm joining after I'm done with my undergraduate studies. I'm 20 years old, but once I graduate from college in two years, I'm going straight to the Marines and becoming an officer. ( The perks of joining after you go to college with a degree earned )

I was attached to 2nd Marine Division in Operation Desert Storm as a soldier. The Marines needed the Bradley Fighting Vehicle to go knock out The Republican Guard on Saddam Hussein. I was proud as punch to say when my Company Commander asked me what Vehicle was ready to go and I said HQ-25 as we were servicing vehicles. The Bradley Tow Missle System packs a hell of a punch when you need it. The Lav-25 Vehicles that theorises were using had no missles equipped on it. Just a 25mm Bushmaster gun and 7.62 coaxial machine gun. I told the Marine Captain to get some! He grinned. The fireworks were amazing! Flattened the hell out them all. Our M-1 Abrahm Tanks blew the enemy tanks away. Smoking wrecked T-72, T,-55, and T-62 Tanks riddled everywhere like burnt toast to be sure! You could smell it! That and fighter and bombers pulverised the enemy like hamburger! Ooorah! HHC 3rd Brigade 2nd Armored Division Tiger Brigade. Fort Hood, Texas 76554. Respect, Love, and Honour to all who serve and to our veterans! God Bless. You are the heroes of this modern day. Your service guarantees our freedom and liberties that so many in Hollywood and the left wing lunatic have no appreciation for as their children are not serving!
