You are obviously not a Williams fan but the likes of Ronnie, Hendry, Higgins, Trump etc are and regard him as so. Its their opinion that matters i.e peers not in the slightest yours or mine 🙂
Calm down. I have it on good authority Vafei really needed to pee. Also, he doesn’t need to “literally” bow to anyone. Should Mark Williams “literally” bow to John Higgins or Ronnie O’Sullivan? We can criticise Vafei’s peevishness without making a federal case of it, can’t we? Literally?

@@johnsrabe No Williams should not bow because he is also an all time great. Ronnie and Higgins (as well as all his peers past and present) regard him as so as he regards them, and all regard Ronnie as the greatest for sheer brilliance and consistency. But on their day all three are devastating in different ways.
But obviously no one should bow to anyone. My contribution to this 'conversation' was purely a side note, not to do with bowing. The starter of this thread also, obviously, did not mean this literally but to emphasize a point.
So many 'decisive' opinions by non experts, evident that they are unable to just listen to the actual experts and 'understand' that the most successful peers of a sport truly 'understand' the sport and quality displayed in that sport, and that is all that matters. We are all non expert observers (some less than other thought it seems).
If one does not realize this then their opinion is invalidated by default 🙂

Even if the opponent taunts you, you should still keep your cool and let the audience be the judge. Composure and poise demand respect. And they denote maturity.

See! Here’s a reasonable comment. Not drawing an overnlown conclusion (Vafei should be drawn and quartered! And made to watch East Enders!) but stating elegantly that it would be good if HV mastered his impetuousness.
Personally, I really wanna like him, because he plays with flair, is quite handsome, is a representative of a country that we need to be reminded has normal people in it, and is an extremely good player.
But he undermines that every time he acts immaturely. Suck it up, and shake Mark Williams’ hand. Big deal. It’s not like you got beat by Jimmy White; you got beat by a guy who may not be at the top of his game anymore, but is still quite wiley.

He completely misread mark's thigh-slapping gesture which was in fact out of self frustration after mucking up his last shot. His facial expression was one of anger, not triumph. Vafaei just made himself look like an idiot.

Even if the thigh-slapping wasn't misread Vafaei still overreacted. He seems incredibly highly strung and perceives personal sleights in the most mundane things. Who knows what he'll find "disrespectful" next after all that nonsense with Ronnie too. I like the guy but he needs to mature a bit.

Great unsportsmanship from Vafaei in the end. No matter what, you should shake a hand to your opponent after a match ending. This is banal etiquette. Mark is a nice guy and I don't think he'll hold a grudge, but it shouldn't go unnoticed. I hope the WST takes notice of this and at the very least reprimands Hossein for this gesture.

But even if we assume that this somehow embarrassed Hossein, sitting in his chair, he could have simply told Mark about it, people usually do that. This is not to mention the fact that it was Mark's shot and he received a penalty of 7 points for it. And not shaking hands at the end of the match is disrespect not only to Mark himself, but to everyone who watched it and a spit in the face of WST.

This is not good sportsmanship by Hossein. He must respect anyone he plays against. First it was with Ronnie and now it's Williams. Vafaei is not mature enough for this stage of snooker. It's a gentleman's game. You cannot just start throwing silly tantrums just because you lose to someone. That is disrespect.

Wow. How stupid. Whatever happens, smile and shake hands. You can do whatever you like in the dressing room but always retain your dignity in public.
Can someone, who knows please, explain why when the cue ball was NOT under consultation, Vafaei had asked for the balls to be replaced following Mark's foul, deeming the cue ball "out of play" as the ref had not yet replaced it, in effect making it a "dead ball", could it possibly have been a foul. To re-iterate, the cue ball had not been replaced and therefore it was not in play and it was most definitely NOT under consultation as Vafaei had already requested the balls to be replaced. No grey area there then, the ref, again, was just being a pedantic, anal smart arse and no foul was technivally committed as the refs reason for the foul "under consultation" was incorrect and had no merit. It's the equivalent of calling a push shot on a 12 foot pot, refs can't just call a foul and apply any rule/reson that they fancy in order to be a clever see you next Tuesday. As Mark intimated, when was the last time ANYBODY got penalised for pocketing the white ? I've been watching snooker since the days of black and white Pot Black and, on principle, am infuriated.
Rules 3:16. " ... if any ball is intentionally moved or picked up by the striker from the playing area the referee shall call FOUL... "

What is the story behind Mark Williams picking up the white ball? Could he have just fouled it to signify he was conceding a frame instead?
It was a wee joke. Turned out the ref didn't see the funny side 🤣
The ref was re-setting the balls up after Mark failed to hit a red. As he was focused on the reds, Mark quietly pocketed the white as a joke on the ref. The ref saw it and gave him a 7 point penalty because the white was in play and that was in the rules. (The last time he played that joke on this ref the white was in the pocket and wasn't in play). When Mark asked if it was a foul the ref said: 'No, it's not a foul, it's a penalty'. He basically gave his opponent 7 points for free.
By the way the ref said it, it's a relatively recent addition to the rules. @@StevieViscuso
Yes, you're right. He said "You know that's a penalty 7 _now_" So it seems they changed the rules since Mark originally did it. I'd say there is definitely a difference between taking a ball off the table and taking a ball out of the pocket, but he was told 'touching the ball during a consultation period', so I guess they've added a new rule. @@michaelocyoung
But I have just looked at the rules. It seems he could still take it out of the pocket. "Seven points if any player contacts, with any part of their person, attire or equipment, any ball on the playing area during a consultation period." The playing area is defined as "The playing area is within the cushion faces"
