Thank you for the update Julie! I almost forgot that Hila’s season was starting this month! I am planning to watch it. Two episodes per week is going to be a lot of work for me (it usually takes me at least 3 hours to get through a single episode, due to my limited Dutch reading skills) but hopefully I will be able to do it. I won’t be watching the Netflix season.

Well, first, I said that I had more to say about the last Belgian Mole - at least my personal reaction to it - and that I'd put it in a final "what were the clues?" video if you did one. Can understand why you didn't (it's not easy to get hold of!) so I'm going to reply to this comment with some more personal thoughts on that series, with spoiler asterisks, the lot. Suffice to say that if you CAN watch Belgium Season 12 and you haven't done so yet, do it. It's fantastic.
Now onto these two upcoming series.
I had my issues with the first Netflix series. I thought it was built upon a very good foundation - a likeable cast of characters and some good challenges. It all fell apart in the editing, which was so hyperactive. And so many confessionals! Once again we have an American Mole series trying to be "survivor". You don't need confessionals in "The Mole" guys! I don't need people telling me what to think! It's really condescending and feels like it's "dumbing things down" so much! If they can fix the editing and the pacing and keep the core of what worked in the first season, I think it could be great. But unfortunately I doubt they will. American "reality TV" (which isn't even what "The Mole" is, but that's how they market it) has a very simple formula. Tell don't show, loads of confessionals, plenty of that stock-sounding scoring to tell you how to feel at any time. I'm hoping I'm proven wrong here, because if you take away the stuff about the Netflix Mole that didn't work, there's a lot of stuff that did.
Talking of series with way too many confessionals... WIDM has basically now devolved into a bunch of celebrities trying to get as much screentime as possible. I can find no other explanation for how awful it's gotten than that. The money doesn't matter (the contestants earn over E6,000 in the first episode, then have less than E3000 five episodes later), there's no tension, and basically every challenges is about either envelopes or logic puzzles. And so many "advantages" that nobody is even trying to go for the money anyway, because advantages maximise screentime and money does not.
All that said... you'd think I'd be excited about a new non-celeb version of WIDM with different producers and a different host! I'm not 100% sold on Hila as the host based on what we saw of her when she was a candidate, but maybe she can have a bit of Grant Bowler's edge, Anderson Cooper's sense of humour, or Angela Groothuizen's what I can only describe as "sympathetic intensity". I at least hope she's better than Rik, who's been a non-presence in my opinion. As for the season itself... I hope the new producers have new ideas. Or bring back some old ones. Belgium has been doing both of these things and they've got a brilliant hit-rate. If they can do something to make it feel like an adventure again, add some stakes with a money pot that slowly rises, and make the challenges be about a team of people cooperating to get a task done and not competing for a myriad of "advantages"... if all of that can take place, then it could be great. But like the Netflix season, that's a massive "if".
For these two seasons I'll be hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. (Maybe not for the Netflix one 'cause I still expect that to be at least watchable.) Let's hope that these seasons are great, 'cause once again, where I'm predicting things might go badly, I'd really love to be proven wrong. Peace!
Now a few thoughts on the past Belgian season and my specific reaction to it in a separate post, with spoiler asterisks, etc. It won't be long.

Ok, so spoilers for Belgium Seasons 11 and 12. Once again, if you haven't watched them, and you can watch them, watch them. They're both great.

So critically - literally my only complaint about S12 is that at times it felt a little unbalanced in favour of the Mole. Generally I think the producers should aim for about 50% of the prize pot being won, with an aggressive Mole reducing this, and smart players increasing it. This season didn't feel that it even could come close to that, doublers and all. Apart from that, it was a great season. There ends my thoughts on the season itself 'cause I'd like to discuss my reactions to it, and specifically my suspicions.
So I had Senne nailed down as the Mole early on. Absolutely nailed. Was 95% sure it was him. The only other even theoretical possibility was Michael. And Michael won money in the pizza challenge, wasn't in the prison (and therefore not solely responsible for the loss of E10,000), wasn't on the wrong side of every single group decision in the first four rounds like Senne was, etc. My logic was, it had to be Senne.
And then something happened. I'm not even sure what. Maybe it was being influenced by other commentors here. Maybe it was just memories of a couple of seasons where I'd been 100% sure of who the Mole was since early on and had turned out to be wrong at the end (especially Season 6 and to a lesser extent Season 9 of the Belgian Mole). But whatever it was, I felt that it couldn't be that easy, that I had to be wrong, that the producers wouldn't give me this much information unless it was a false trail. Whatever it was, I lacked the courage of my own convictions. I should've stuck to Senne like a bug to superglue, but nope. I vacillated more and more. I even said in the comments right before the finale: "It's probably going to be Michael." I had no basis whatsoever for this. I didn't even think it WAS him. I just didn't think I could be right early on, and therefore it HAD to be him. Which makes no sense!
And right before the reveal, upon watching the finale, expecting Senne to come out, and then he did, all I could think to myself was: "You had it. Your reasoning was all good. Why put yourself through that?"
If this is the first season it'd happened then I'd be less harsh on myself, but nope... it happened with Commy too. That very first episode I posted: "My top suspect is Commy". The second episode saw me take a detour with Leila, but after that I was right back on Commy's trail in episodes 3 and 4. And then, once again, I vacillated, lost all confidence, and switched away - and this time I didn't switch back until literally seconds before the final reveal, when I was like: "Of course Toos suspects Commy, that's why he chose "green" instead of "yellow" on the bus. It's got to be her." And when it was revealed, there I was, once again, kicking myself from here to Antwerp.
I dunno guys... I don't know why this is happening. It never used to. I think I need to stop taking other people's comments to heart and work on my own reactions. I also have to have a lot more confidence in my own judgement when it's based on good information and deduction. Have the self-insight to be able to recognise what judgements of mine are based on solid reasoning and what are just gut. That's my resolution going forward. To stop second-guessing myself when I don't need to and trust my judgement. Let's see how it works out for these two upcoming seasons (assuming I can even get through both of them).

I have come to the conclusion that for me, it all boils down to episode 4. I thought “surely the mole’s strategy would be something more clever and less risky than ‘I’m going to drive really fast and then crash my car on purpose so I don’t accidentally earn money.’ “ I thought “surely the producers wouldn’t approve of the mole planning to ace the assignment and then crash their car on purpose in a way that hopefully looks like a genuine accident.” Clearly, I was wrong 😂. Senne is SO lucky that Michaël gave him an alternative way to fail, because I think if he had gone through with his original plan, it would have made him WAY too obvious. Plus, counting the laps incorrectly was Michaël’s most suspicious action for me. If he hadn’t done that, the case for him as mole would have been much weaker.
