As an official Old Guy, I can tell you that weight matters! The older I get, the trickier it gets to make bags to both my needs and my liking. Videos like this are really helpful. Thanks.

I still remember the 5 and 10 pound challenges you did several years back. Glad to see you bring it back.

You know what is rare, if at all in these challenges.... a map, better a topo map of areas you commonly find yourself in or near as thats most likely where your "scenario" will start. Is a map absolutly necessary? No, however, if you know how to read topo, its going to help you locate resources to replenish your already limited supply. Maybe there are no rivers or streams nearby, but you can locate valleys near you on topo.... that means theres a high probability you can still locate water there..... and water means food may also be near. Idk.... maybe its just me🤷‍♂️ personally i have a topo and a small road map just incase im away from my topoed areas.... and i can then get to my topo areas

    This is from personal experience.
Used the jungle bag on a overnighter in June on a warm night.
    The mosquitoes were intense.
If I stayed zipped up in the bag I overheated. If the bag was opened to cool off I would get eaten alive.
Add a bug net to this kit!

In June I would use my Onewind mosquito net hammock +tarp or drop cloth for shelter.

Borrowing from bushcraft I learned to pack just a bow saw blade , then a branch can become the saw . Heavy on knowledge as they say lets you carry lighter.
This looks like a smart set up pack to me , especially in the shelter system, I'm still trying to wiggle the reflective tarp into mine but it adds weight on .

Kit videos are always some of my favorite type of content. Especially when done by PM101. I'm always thinking about how I can make my kit better, lighter, cheaper, smaller....some of those are give and take, but it's the thinking and changing that's important to me. Thanks, Chris!

A 15 lb bag would be realistic for a day pack. Having a metal canteen would be must + a bigger knife for decent emergency bushcrafting.

I'm not a small individual, I carry 10lbs in my edc. But this series is a lot of fun to watch and learn from.

Good video. You made wise choices. It's not easy to pass up your favorite tools, but important to know when to do so.

Really like the bivy set up. I would add one of those surplus stainless cups that mates with the canteen you have. It wouldn't add much weight or space since the canteen sits inside of it.

I remember about 10 years ago I loaded uo my Kifaru EMR II pack, hiked about 7 miles down the AT and spent two nights in the woods at my camp site. When I loaded my gear to go home the pack was so heavy I couldn't lift it. I had to sit it against a tree, sit down, strap it on and then stand up. The entire 7 mile hike back to my car I had cramps in my legs from what I thought was dehydration but turned out to be magnesium deficoency. I could hardly walk they were so painful. Not sure how I made it back to my car that day but I did. That was back when I was magnesium deficient abd didn't know it. All caused by big phama meds prescribed for acid reflux

Hi Chris No matter what you will have to sacrifize something in a survival kit. You will have to prioritize hard if you have to stick to the limit weight. But that said, My back is not the strongest, so I always consider going as lightweight as possible. Thankyou for sharing these videos, very helpful endeed

Luv the content Chris! My only add would be something to sharpen that knife with. You mentioned it, but for me, if my knife is going then a way to sharpen has to go too.

Good kit but…You’re skilled enough to not need the extra weight of the 6 tarp clips and figure 9 carabiner. Your fire stuff is too much. You don’t need another tinfull of fire making stuff to add weight. If you have Chapstick or Vaseline in your FAK, then you already have great accelerants. Need a metal canteen cup for boiling and the hot stuff. Also add some snare wire to increase duration beyond 2-3 days. An extra pair of socks is a must. Thanks for the video!

You can do a lot with that knife and saw. I go camping with more tools but I often only use the knife and saw. With the saw I can make a wooden wedge and baton wood if needed. I think the medical kit and hydration are the critical parts especially here in Texas.

It's intresting that you started doing these weight limit challages. I wasn't thinking when I went on a trip with the family and packed my bag only to learn the bag i use is really really heavy and now I need a new one. the bag was just about the same weight as all the stuff i packed in it.

How long do you have to survive out of the bag? What is the scenario?

  • @greenmountainboysheepdog7602

I love the kit. The only thing I would do different is I would pitch the plastic sheeting for a metal cup. With the sleep system, poncho, and trap I do not see a need for the sheeting and have the ability to boil water! Just my two cents!

15lb bag? More food, like nuts or something else with protein and fats to help keep energy up and hunger down. Better for your mental wellbeing.

40lb is best LOL . Thats a realistic 2 week fully fed and kitted and mostly comfortable bag weight. Most guys are 160 lb or heavier so it's probably not even 25% of your body weight which is totally doable .

15:25 Be careful with the Mylar “space blankets” and where you place them in relation to your body. You mention wrapping yourself in the blanket before getting in the bag and/or bivy. I don’t think that’s the right way. Five minute video here telling you why: czcams.com/video/Qjzxl9c-kjE/video.html
