Honestly, I’ve seen the lyrics written both ways. Personally, I think it makes more sense to say “A treat for all these problems”. He’s referring how the giant, little animals come to eat on me (us), how we’re the treat (food source). I hope you can understand my English. Sorry it took 2 years for a response. I saw them recently at House of Blues Dallas. It was their first song and about 1/4 of the way through Ben forgot how to play it and just started laughing. He said "I honestly forgot how to play this, maybe I'll practice it next time we try to play it" and he just stood up and sung the rest of the song

There’s a video floating around YT of Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) - I think it’s a Tiny Desk Performance - where he takes requests and someone asks for a song and you can see him thinking about it, working through the chords in his mind, and then he just says no. Haha He’s so apologetic but he just says that he hasn’t played it in years and he’ll butcher it and never forgive himself. It’s brutal, you can tell how uncomfortable he is. That was crazy honest of him.
