It was all articulated to destroy the state railways. The same happened in education, the communists forbade the teaching in schools of a glorious past of struggle of this beautiful nation called Brazil ..

I have visited Brazil 3 times and was lucky enough to ride the Paulista Railway when it was still electrified. Curitiba to Paranagua on a Budd RDC was a great trip as well. Great video.
That's good for you, really. I also had very funny and enjoyable trips in my home state São Paulo, when was a kid, with my grandpa in the late late 90's. Nowadays almost everything has gone, is a shame for us.

As your accent sounds kiwi. You didn't do too bad o pronunciatiob of the names. As I'm a kiwi living here in Brazil I've never seen these railways you've filmed here. virtually all railways here are the same guage as NZ 3'6. around Sao Paolo state there are still some of the electrified lines still up. but a lot of areas where rail lines are completely abandoned in Sao Paolo, Parana and Santa Catarina. Even if some of those lines were to be reopened for the tourist trade it would do wonders for Brazil. The majority of tourists only stick to the coastal regions and think they've seen Brazil. the interior of Brazil is a whole different dimension.
