  • The OEM front end on my Yamaha Virago isn’t what I want on my café racer… it’s time to put the inverted forks R6 front end on the frame 😀
    In this video I show the necessary preparation so I can finally slide this R6 front end in the Virago frame.
    I press the bearings, weld on the frame, paint a little and it’s on!

    Hi I'm Tristan!
    I live in New York and when I'm not working on my fitness clothing line (yoked.net) I DIY with intensity 😅
    For now, I restore wrecked motorcycles. So I disassemble, weld, machine and fix those bikes so they can go back on the road!

    Following progress with interest. Just started my own project after finally get my hands on a -81 XV750 after many years of searching. Not an easy bike to find in Sweden.
    Fun sidenote is that I also ride a R1... Love that bike, but I've dreamt of building a café racer for many years and now I finally have the chance.

    HI Tristan, have just seen your video, very well laid out and well narrated, you have picked the best model to modify, currently rebuilding my 1982 750 now with an 1100 engine, was caught in our garage fire and was a bit singed, about 60% finished, will be catching up on the rest of your video,s in a while, keep up the excellent work, regards Doc Cox.

    I'm doing this exact swap at the moment. I *think* I'm going to grind off the stops on the bottom brace and bolt in some adjustable stops though rather than touching the frame.

    • @tomthompson7400
      @tomthompson7400 Před 3 lety +2

      check to see where the webs lie on the underside of the bottom clamp first ,, done the same a few times with different things , its a pain when theres a web where you want to drill ,,, some times you have to shuffle things about a bit.

    • @TristanDurandBuilds
      @TristanDurandBuilds  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes that's an option, but I didn't want to weaken the lower triple by drilling it to put the adjustable stops, tell me how it goes 👍

I'm thinking of getting an 81 xv920R chain drive but I am hesitant because I already own 4 motorcycles all of which are classic Hondas, 3 CB750's & 1 CB450 DOHC, but every time I watch your videos or somebody else's on a Virago it lights a fire under my ass to try and finally get one, is your Virago already finished or are you still building her brother?
