It also depends on the tone...it could be traslated as "alright/K" or "yeah, sure" when you don't believe what the other person said.

There's also "si vabbeh ciao" which expresses a disappointed disbelief and it's roughly translated with whatever, but it's more in the passive aggressive sphere lol and also "no vabbeh" which expresses surprise.

c'è anche un altro uso di "vabbè", ed è per concludere qualcosa (di solito una discussione poco interessante o inconcludente) e iniziare qualcos'altro. tipo, si sta discutendo di andare da qualche parte ma nessuno prende una decisione, allora uno dice "vabbè. andiamo (ecc.)". o anche per anticipare un nostro commiato, tipo "vabbè, si è fatto tardi. ciao". mi è anche capitato di vederlo usato per accompagnare, di solito mostrando noia e/o impazienza, un'altra persona mentre si dilunga troppo nel parlare o mentre dice qualcosa di estremamente nojoso. in questi casi vabbè invece che introdurre qualcosa di scontato o poco interessante mostra una presa di distanza e/o iniziativa per introdurre un cambiamento.
a volte (di solito nelle forme "sì, vabbè..." o "no, vabbè...") può anche significare "ma serio?" o "questo è troppo", come reazione a quando si assiste a qualcosa di esagerato.

There is one more way vabbè is being used, the Roman way, when someone is exaggerating things or telling bullshits that are way too obvious, the other person might say " seh vabbè" to express that they do not believe what has just been said, also if a statement is way too bold a roman might reply " seh vabbe" to express disagreement. When Romans say it that way they usually use a particular tone of voice that lets you recognize the meaning of seh vabbè.

I'll give you a small example: a person has something beautiful, fantastic that can be a phone or anything, and if the person who sees it thinks it is beautiful, then they say "no vabbè". How is "vabbè" actually pronounced in speech, though? Because all the native speakers in the interviews don't really enunciate it-it sounds more like "bè" because it's so fast. Are they actually saying "vabbè"?? I would never catch that just listening.

I, for one, am not a fan of phrasing "you know" in conversation. It insinuates that the person you are talking to 'agrees' with you, or someone knows exactly what you are talking about, or in a subtle way, implies the speaker seeks reassurance. It happens continuously in English, and the phrase is like a bad habit. Attentive speakers rarely, if ever, inject the phrase 'you know'. The phrase is such a habit, you know, and it can be, you know, repetitive, and ,you know, only non attentive speakers use it.....hopefully, it is not such a language parasite in italian.

it would be correct to say "va bene" ... be careful: "vabbè" is NEVER a substitute for "va bene". "Vabbè" has different meanings from what you mean, to point out to someone that you agree to do something it would be correct to say "Va bene", "d'accordo" or "okay" ... I hope I was d 'Help

Never - never - write "vabbè" in proper Italian! According to the ortography rules, this is a mistake. As Katie and Matteo say correctly, the original form is "va bene", with the drop of the final -ne, so the correct spell is va be' with an apostrophe indicating the dropping of -ne. Writing the words united and with a double B is just a way to reproduce the typical pronounciations of Central and Southern Italy, where speakers often double the sound of consonants and pronounce an open final E. Anyway, this is a mistake under an ortographic point of view. But you can write "vabbè" only if you wanted to imitate a Central/Southern dialect, a colloquial way of speaking (from the areas I mentioned) when you write. It is no coincidence that the interwied people speak with Southern accents, although some of the interviews were shot in Milan. Just pay attention to the black and smooth haired girl speaking with a Milan accent: she doesn't double the sound of B and her final E is close, that is how her words sounds like "va bé" and not "vabbè". The same happens with the short haired girl and the woman wearing sunglasses: "va bé" without double B and with close E. So you guys feel free to pronounce it at the Northern or Central-Southern way, it does not matter, but you have to write va be' with the apostrophe. Never write vabbè. Also vabbè was not frequent in written Italian until some times ago (except in case of reproduction a certain kind of colloquial speaking), it's more a recent phenomen. Teachers should give proper ortographic tips too.
What about "arrivederci" vs "a rivederci" then?
I always thought, this was a common rule.
@@thomassiegler9898 writing "a rivederci" could be considered as an ortographic mistake nowadays. Probably you heard someone pronouncing arivederci without doubling the sound of R (arrivederci) in Northern Italy, where not pronouncing the long, doubled sound of consonants was very common some time ago. Nowadays this feature is common among very old Northern speakers only, but it was generalized until some decades ago. Now this feature is disappearing and you can't even hear it among under 40 years old speakers (but also among most people between 40 and 50 years old people is very very rare).

You're right, the basic form was " a rivederci", just like the basic form of "davvero" was "da vero" etc. In fact we also say "a risentirci" and not "arrisentirci". But in this case the form with the Tuscan syntactic gemination (that's to say the lenghtening of the initial consonant) was standardized and then its use has prevailed. Nemmeno (né meno), sebbene (se bene), suppergiù (su per giù), laddove (là dove) are always written with the syntactic gemination, but you also can read both "e però" and "epperò" by some columnists. Finding "la su" in spite of "lassù" is rare but it's not a mistake. And long time ago "a rivederci" could be written this way but I bet that most school teachers would mark it as a mistakes nowadays. The syntactic gemination was standardized in many words, but not in all cases, otherwise we would write vado aNnapoli, dillo aSsara, chebbello etc. We don't do it because that's the reproduction of the Tuscan and Central Italian and Southern Italian pronounciation. "Vabbè" is the same: it's a form to reproduce that pronounciation in a text.

Si può scrivere va be' o va bè o vabbè. La forma attualmente utilizzata di più è vabbè 😁 ma sarebbe corretta una qualunque delle tre forme.
Quando si uniscono due parole a formare una singola,
si raddoppia il consonante iniziale della seconda.
Un altro esempio: "a rivederci" diventa "arrivederci". Vabbè?
