  • This is a vintage Old Spice shaving cream advertisement. It presents three choices: Smooth Shave, Lather Shaving Cream, and Brushless Shaving Cream. Old Spice is an American brand of male grooming products that includes deodorants and antiperspirants, shampoos, shower gels, and soaps. It is manufactured by Procter & Gamble.
Old Spice was launched as Early American Old Spice by the soap and toiletries company William Lightfoot Schultz, Shulton Inc., in 1937. It was initially targeted towards women, and the men's product was introduced before Christmas in late 1937. Old Spice is now sold as male grooming products, including antiperspirants/deodorants and shower gels.

In Britian "Little Shaver" was slang for "Little Boy" in a production of David Copperfield (based on Charles Dickens Life) he was introduced as "This Little Shaver".

That’s weird. A can of Old Spice shaving cream cost back then what a can of Barbasol costs today.

I was born in 1957. Let's assume that commercial aired in 1957. Adjusting for inflation, 60 1957 cents are $6.60 to $7 in today's dollars. That is a bit pricey! As such, one 1957 dollar is $11 to $12 in today's money! The minimum wage in 1957 was $1. I feel the minimum wage should be $11.50 per hour in 2024 and should be indexed to inflation.

Today it is gel that becomes shaving cream.
