That is actually a really great detail in GTA IV.
Sometimes if the driver has his leg on accelerator, and Papa Niko shoots him, his car with the body automatically goes at speeds until he crashes so hard, that the car doesn't start!

Corrections:
- You can survive bike landings from any height in GTA IV, the reason you died is because you were leaning forward so you hit the ground with the front of the bike rather than landing on both wheels.
- Cars explode when they catch fire in GTA V as well, yours didn't because it's an electric car.
- Windshields in GTA IV can be broken, just not by bullets. As a side note, while GTA V's tampered glass is more satisfying to look at, GTA IV's windows are actually closer to reality. Side windows on real cars are designed to shatter as much as possible when breaking, except for the windshield which is designed to stay in one piece as much as possible.
- It's possible to survive train collisions in both games, it's even possible to survive getting run over by them though very difficult.
Fair enough! I definitely goofed by picking an electric car 😂 Although for the rest I try presenting what "generally" happens in most cases. There are always times where you'll survive a massive fall/train collision etc.
To be fair, if this game was realistic electric cars should catch fire on their own, without being shot at.

Gta 4 is waay ahead of it's time. And people always talk about physics and visuals. Which are still top notch. ( yes,the visuals are quite unique, and they still have a nice aesthetic). But we must also give props to the sound design. Seriously, most of us associate GTA soundscape with those car halting traffic sound in the background. Quite astonishing how HD everything sounds
And in a weird way, GTAIV is also a time capsule of the mid 2000s when you think about it.
I absolutely loved the car damage physics in GTA 4, disappointed that they didn't carry that feature over to GTA 5.

Yeah they managed to make the ambience even better in V.
9:26 But the thing is there, that GTA IV is more close to real life. Because on actual cars windshields and side-windows will break in a completely different way, for safety reasons. Side windows will shatter right away so that you can get out, but windshield glass will stay intact (although no longer see through), because otherwise you would get wind in your face while driving your car after hitting a duck head-on.
(I noticed a similar thing in another comparison video (FarCry 6), where it was deemed better that a car could run down a tree, but in practice most bigger trees would win in a head on collission contest with a car)
The reason winsheilds are stronger is to prevent them from shattering when you crash, A bullet poses a completely different scenario.

Gonna sound like a nerd here, but the detail where closing the car door shatters the glass in GTA V is technically wrong. Because of the moment of inertia the glass shards should fall _inside_ the car, not outside.
the devs probably dident do that cuz it would just be the worst to die from something so stupid as that.
Still gotta give them props for the effort! How many games actually bother with such tiny details?

I like how the suspension actually works in gta 4, and how the weight of the car can make the spring expand or contract. Same can't be said for gta 5

@@thirdhandlv4231 Given the nature of the series, the toxicity is only natural. But most of that toxicity are kids, teens, and adults who never progressed in social maturity.
I was once a bit of a toxic teen but by the age of 18 or 19, I more or less grew out of the behavior. I'm sure the same is true for the other squeakers and teens out there.

@X_Milky I know batteries can blow up and all, but maybe not as big as a gasoline car with a decently filled tank.
Most electrics have hilariously short range, due to having low energy storage capacity. Maybe that means a sudden release of that energy - explosion - would be smaller.
You might have already done this but in GTA V (I think in GTA IV too) if you have a car that backfires you can light up any gas you pour. I used to leave gas trails to gas pumps and watch everything blow up by revving the car 😂

The breaking of the windows on cars seems more like the real deal in GTAIV, doesnt tempered glass completely shatter if there is strong impact? It usually all breaks apart into small square like pieces to avoid cutting the driver, so the way that the GTAV glass shatters would be more deadly
Well... The windshield in GTA 4 is definitely far more realistic (at least until it's subjected to sustained gunfire) than the windshield in GTA5, there's plastic in a windshield that holds the glass together. However, the side windows depends... The particles are a bit odd, They're clearly not the triangular sharp shards of regular glass, they're clearly the "tempered glass" square pieces, but they're rendered WAY too big. And like you said, that glass is designed to shatter completely, and I assume they would shatter completely if hit by a bullet, like GTA 4... But I've seen many sidewindows in junkyards that were hit by something, and sat exactly like a window in GTA 5: shattered but most of the pieces still stuck together but with a hole in the middle... You touch them the wrong way, and they fall apart... I think that only happens in real life if you smash the window without a bullet though.

I just finished GTA IV again after so many years and, IMO, in general, GTA IV physics are better. Driving cars and riding bikes felt more realistic and more like a simulation in GTA IV; how bodies react to gun fire and crashes... Take the bike vs train as an example. GTA IV was better.. GTA V is more arcade and "simple".
GTA V has more details, however, like when shooting the windows of cars and the glass shattering when you close the door. The evolution of the RAGE engine, I guess.

What? Driving a supercar in gta 4 is like driving a boat. Gta 5 driving physics are far more realistic..also rockstar removed the crash physics because it was pretty annoying that your car couldn’t handle turns and the car starts smoking when you crash it 3 times..
I hope they’ll bring back the realistic reaction/combat damage physics for pedestrians and vehicular damage in the new GTA that may come out in the next two decades or so, lol

GTA 4 is the best. The car handling was awesome because it felt real. The details they added were great. Cops were nicer. I would love to see a new GTA 4 game exactly the same details but updated graphics.

I do love every single one of your videos!!! One suggestion though - one main reason the car in the "Driving over fire" segment didn't explode was because it's an electric car. There's no gas *to* explode! Maybe you should stick to makes (and for IV to V), models that are shared between each game. The Banshee you chose in 4 is always a good example because it's always pretty similar, even in the older games, and it uses the *exact* same model in the two newest ones. Still, a might fine video series - but the scientific method always goes a little askew, methinks ;-)

A cool detail in GTA 4 is that you can turn off your car's engine or even leave it running when you exit the car, unlike any other GTA game

If you gonna make part 2, you should compare the water physics to a real and fair face-off. (Get a heli and fly very close to the water surface.) Also at parachuting, you can easily play TBoGT to compare it. What a fair face off :)
