He can plow through mobs of opponents like they're nothing in the first Final Fight, so for one to one combat you can surely understand the need to limit himself so the fight lasts.
I love that Cody canonically is one of the greatest hand-to-hand combatants on the planet when compared to other characters he’s essentially just some random guy from the city who trained a lot since he was a kid

Some DLC stories were good even though were small like Ed and Kolin, they both had deep meanings. I'd love for Cody story to be great and show stuff even if doesn't require actual fights like what happened in the Ed and Kolin story.
As weird as it sounds, I relate to Cody so much... despite the fact that I've never gotten into any fights, let alone got arrested. Guy reminds me more of my stricter, law-abiding side. Probably the strangest thing is that even though both of them are my favorites, their relationship kinda reminds me of my relationship with my sister, and we disagree quite a bit.
There are times that our understandings of Good doesn't add up to our senses of Right and Wrong. Better people before us followed the latter and the outcome wasn't a fairy tale. For it was never about our own life, it's about WHAT do us believe in.
Edi E., the corrupt douchebag of a cop that you fought as I think the 3rd boss in the original Final Fight, framed him for Poison’s crimes and arrested him. So, yeah, mainly bullshit false charges, but, hey, at least Cody’s now the Mayor of Metro City, making him Edi’s boss, so it kind of works out now.
In the Final Fight games, he got framed by the crooked cop dude for Poisons crimes. Added on to the fact that Cody gotten obsessed with fighting so much that he became more violent and was hurting innocent people as well.

Me n Cody have the same exact attitude. I'll do what's morale right...no matter what...but I'm very vendictive when you double cross me. Once I'm hurt...I go off on my own.
Multiple counts of street fighting, he loved fighting so much that he started fights with anyone that crosses him, leading to his incarceration. But not even prison could stop this beast.
He fights extremely well for someone handcuffed. I can only imagine his skills without them.

After watching The Warriors, and The Raid back to back, I am convinced a Final Fight movie would work.
