To do this swatching I used Daley Rowney Mixed Media card. However, because you're not adding a ton of water to these, and they are nice bright colours, I've actually bought a kraft colour sketch book to practice in as I like the look of the colour on the darker card. It's not watercolour card, just a sketch book, so I think you could definitely try out some different card with these, you definitely don't need expensive, high quality watercolour card to get a good result.
